Former President Donald Trump vowed to change the 25th Amendment to allow for the removal of the vice president if they hide the “incapacity of the president.”

During a Saturday rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin, Trump offered a new proposal to modify the 25th Amendment. Trump and his supporters have often attacked Joe Biden by alleging he is mentally unfit to serve as president while claiming Kamala Harris has hid this fact from the public.

The 25th Amendment in the U.S. Constitution is designed to set up a line of succession if the president dies or becomes incapacitated. It allows the vice president to become president if the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office by impeachment.

Dumbest shit I’ve heard from Trump all day.

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

“Doctor Hannibal Lecter, he will have you for dinner. You know that he will have you for dinner.”

— Donald Trump, at a rally in Wisconsin.

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Hopefully he meant for the day.

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 month ago

There's still a few hours to go..

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 51 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Amendments are apparently just one more thing that Trump doesn’t understand.

[–] BlemboTheThird@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 month ago

Changing amendments is no problem when you have judges to "reinterpret" them at will

[–] slaveOne@reddthat.com 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The list of things he does understand would be much shorter.

I don't even know if he actually understands what a hamberder is.

like maybe that it's tasty and how to scarf them. but... not much else.... like even the whole you-have-to-pay-for-them thing.

[–] tektite@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 month ago

Oh yeah, likely just the "eat" part.

[–] RegalPotoo@lemmy.world 50 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Meanwhile, JD Vance sits in the corner sweating

And not just cos he's sitting on a particularly sexy couch

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If he's sweating, it's only because he's afraid that Trump will die before the election.

I swear that Trump's handlers and/or Peter Thiel got him to pick Vance because Vance is all in on Project 2025. They don't give a crap about Trump as long as he lives long enough for the election to be stolen for him. Then when he drops we'll be stuck with President Vance who will gleefully run with all the fascist crap they can think of.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

only if President Vance can get off the couch.

(excuse me, I just vommited writing that.)

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Come on. If there's one thing we all know, it's that Vance can get off on a couch.

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Pence just whistling and walking away...

[–] Today@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Dean! Sam! Bobby!

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 45 points 1 month ago (2 children)
  1. He really wants to run against Joe Biden still.
  2. He wants a mechanism to get rid of Vance
  3. Both?

yeah pretty clearly this on top of #s 1/2. He's been saying people convicted of a crime need to always serve time behind bars, yet his convicted ass remains outside

[–] InternetUser2012@lemmy.today 13 points 1 month ago

Is it he knows that if he wins Vance can get him removed because of the dementia?

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 40 points 1 month ago

Good! The Constitution OF COURSE can be Changed! UNLESS it's AFTER a bunch of 6 Year Olds get Murdered then the Constitution is PERFECT DON'T TOUCH IT LET ME KILL CHILDREN I'M PRO LIFE!

[–] WatDabney@sopuli.xyz 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

At this point, we're watching Trump disintegrate day by day and virtually minute by minute.

I'm not sure if he's even going to make it to the election. It's really starting to look like he's going to come apart at the seams before that.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I would like to believe that but there is way too much energy behind this guy. He would have to implode horrifically.

[–] WatDabney@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No - I mean Trump personally. Not the Trump campaign, which is a separate thing.

Yeah - the campaign, between the cultish rank and file and the cynically power-hungry donors and operatives - still has a lot of energy.

But Trump the person is visibly coming apart at the seams.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Trump the person came apart at the seams a long time ago. Trump as a “thing” still seems very strong.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can't congress just impeach the VP?

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 45 points 1 month ago (1 children)

they can also impeach the president, and, in fact, impeached Trump twice, for all the good it did.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The impeachment process relies on good faith of both parts of Congress. The Senate, controlled by Republicans, at first denied there was evidence, then when presented with obvious evidence decided that they were okay with it and no punishment was needed on a verdict already established (the actual impeachment from the House). It's like the jurors agreed there was a crime, but the judge said it wasn't a big deal and let him free.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There was literally a republican senator that said he was convinced of all the charges but that he didn't think trump should be removed.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mitt Romney. Had a chance to do the right thing, but followed the party line.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mitt Romney was literally the only Republican senator who voted to remove Trump for both impeachment trials. Not sure what you're referring to but all the other Republicans voting party over country are to blame.

https://www.romney.senate.gov/romney-statement-impeachment-vote/

Had they impeached Trump after Jan. 6th the. Trump would be ineligible to run for president now and we wouldn't be in this mess

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I stand corrected on part of it. He did vote guilty on the first impeachment article, just not the second for obstruction of Congress. I guess at that point it didn't matter, as the Senate overall wasn't going to remove Trump anyway.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Right, there were 52 other Republican senators who could have had some spine and voted for their country over their party, but didn't. If anyone should be singled out for being at fault, it's Mitch McConnell, who voted against Trump's second impeachment conviction, even though he stated "There's no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day". As the senate majority leader, he could have whipped the other Republicans to stand up to Trump, but didn't, effectively finalizing handing the party over to Trump.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He's projecting, again. What did his whole administration do, but cover for him?

He's threatened and taking a scattershot approach.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's called narcisstic collapse.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 0 points 1 month ago

It sure is.

[–] AtomicHotSauce@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Is he almost dead already?

How about now?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

He’s just mad pence is worse at it.

Also that would be an amendment.

Furthermore he’s the sort of person who’d lose his shit upon learning FDR couldn’t walk.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 7 points 1 month ago

Dotard saying dotard things

[–] TheHotze@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I know that he doesn't like Mike Pence anymore, but this is a bit too far.

[–] realcaseyrollins@thelemmy.club 5 points 1 month ago

I'm not a fan of this. The government covers up things for the sake of stability and this is one of those things. If your president is incapacitated, he doesn't resign, and isn't removed, publicly admitting that he's incapacitated will welcome all types of attacks from our enemies.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

No way in hell Trump can get 3/4 of states to ratify an amendment to the constitution. This guy is a fucking clown.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Butthurt little baby sez what now?

[–] Furedadmins@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

...so he wants to retro actively oust Pence?

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why is there all that glare on trump? Is he in a plastic box or sometime?

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes, he's doing a Gabby Giffords at many of his rallies lol

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Oh, what does that mean?
