The problem being that the ones moving on to other jobs are the actual talent. Unlike a targeted layoff, this leaves Amazon with the employees no one else wanted.

And yet it’s still entertaining. I’m certainly enjoying it more than I did Wandavision (which tops the list).

Picard season 1 would have made more sense if they’d killed off Picard at the end, and renamed Rios’ ship after Picard. I would’ve watched that show with that ship and that crew.

23andMe has a “request data deletion” feature. I don’t know if it actually works, but it’s worth a try if you’re worried about it.

Sounds like a great way to bring airborne illnesses back to the factory and end up with more workers on sick leave.

Speed running the Appalachian trail seems like missing the point to me. You’re supposed to be taking in the history and the environment as you hike.

I find his earlier works are better. Salems Lot, Carrie. The Shining. His short stories are also usually good. He also wrote a lot of early stuff under pseudonyms.

But his later works are hit or miss for me. “Pet Semetary” was an interesting idea ruined by characters doing stupid things to move the plot forward. “It” has a huge following, but the underage orgy scene is disgusting and seems like something from a writer who used too many stimulants while writing it, and a publisher that didn’t have editorial control over his later works. “The Institute” was awful. Doctor Sleep was an unnecessary sequel. Etc etc.

Why is it that most manufactured pop from before you were born still sounds good, but most manufactured pop after your 40s sounds irritating as fuck? Like, I could dig some “Charleston” from the 1920s but Ashley Simpson is barf-o-rama.

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who wants to vote for Jill Stein.

So although Paramount is being purchased by Skydance media, it’s being bankrolled by Ellison of Oracle software fame. Why he wants to run an entertainment studio, I have no idea.

“It’s not like ‘ER.’ It’s not kind of ‘ER.’ It’s not sort of ‘ER.’ It is ‘ER’ with the exact same executive producer, writer, star, production companies, studio and network as the planned ‘ER’ reboot.”

Not that I should be surprised, but trying to watch it today and it’s just talk talk talk talk. Commercials. More talk. Overhead shots of the stadium. People walking around in the rain. Talking head. Cut away to footage of Carl Lewis bitching about something. Instant replay of something they already showed. People hugging. Stadium shot. Human interest story. Commercial. Shot of Eiffel Tower. Promo for actual sports being shown on Peacock. Etc etc.

Meanwhile you can see there’s sporting events going on because they are showing them on the Jumbotron in the stadium shots. Really no excuse for this since most of this coverage is pre-recorded anyway.

Evidently screwing customers twice by making them watch ads for the same price they used to get ad-free has been profitable. Let the enshitification continue!

In other news, their ad sales VP left this week for some reason.

Sounds pathetic. I wonder how many product managers have been in charge of Apple News since it started?

Their Safari extension just stopped working. They reposted it under a new App Store entry. 🤷‍♂️🙄

So it’s currently 100 degrees F in my garage today. I’m sure it will only get worse as the summer goes on. I added some of those insulated garage door panels, but I don’t think they did anything.

Now I’m wondering if I should add fiberglass insulation to the attic space above the garage. Would this help, or just lock in the heat? Would using a radiant barrier up there work better?
