Harris’s people are confident. The Trump campaign is panicking

God, I hope they know something we don't. I feel like I'm gonna pass out. Or throw up.

Trump's team has been preparing for a loss for at least weeks now. Luckily it's so obvious that, especially with the precedent of the last coup, it's not going to take anyone by surprise. As a Canadian: please get out and vote, give Harris the substantial victory your country needs, and rub it in Trump's face so hard it's breaks through the layers of spray tan.

P.S. OP, I can understand how you feel. Even as a Canadian I'm going to be so glad to get past tomorrow + the time it takes to confirm a victor. Issues like the environment, Ukraine/Russia, and Israel/Gaza affect us all.

Last line:

“He’s realizing that he could lose the election, go to prison, and maybe die there,” they said.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 136 points 8 hours ago (10 children)

God, that would almost make the next 36 hours or so worth it.

Almost.

Anyone have any general anesthetic I can borrow?

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 36 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Best I can offer is grain alcohol

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 hours ago

That'll have to do.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 15 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

It's going to drag on longer than that, if it's not a clear Republican victory from the outset.

[–] linearchaos@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Even that's not a sure thing.

[–] dragontamer@lemmy.world 15 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

God, that would almost make the next 36 hours or so worth it.

36 hours?

Uhhhh. Its like 1488 hours until January 6th, 2025, and I'm not even sure if all the issues will be resolved by then this time around. Even if Kamala wins.

In a nightmare Year 2000-like scenario (aka: Hanging Chads deciding an election), it could be the middle of December before the Supreme Court handles a hypothetical case that comes up tomorrow night.

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 17 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

It's like 1488 hours until January 6th

It's really fucking bizarre that it actually is the Nazi-est number hours imaginable between the election and final certification of the election. I legit thought you were just doing some Nazi dog whistle virtue signaling until I did the math to find that 1488 hours is 62 days, and we are in fact 62 days from January 6. 🤯

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Do you suppose that's how they landed on Jan 6 for their little Mien Coupf?

I suppose it's related to the certificate, but still pretty sus.

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

No, the goal in 2021 was to delay/stop the certification and keep trump in power. This time, I'm sure the Nazi propaganda framing would be to stop Kamala Harris (sitting VP and therefore president of the Senate) from "awarding herself the presidency." But since there will definitely be appropriate security this time, the cowardly Nazis will stay home and masturbate to deepfake porn of Democrats, activists, and controversial celebrities instead.

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 14 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The tragedy we've been living through needs a biiiiiiiiig catharsis to make it worthwhile.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

And then shit has to change. Fast. We cannot be allowed to go through this sort of threat again. Every tier of government now has a responsibility to recognize and close any legal loopholes that have been abused in order to bring us to this point. As well, they must proactively pass legislation to prevent this kind of fuckery from easily recurring.

For me, the necessary catharsis won't arrive until I feel assured that democracy is safe again.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

All of that was true in 2020 and look where we are. It didn't happen then and it's not going to happen now. Call that pessimistic or fatalistic if you like but I don't see any major changes on the horizon.

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Ok.

I think you're pessimistic and fatalistic.

Government typically happens on a longer than 4 year time span.

[–] zephorah@lemm.ee 13 points 7 hours ago

I’m locking myself in my shop after 8pm, and using destructive metal objects to tear apart desiccated tree flesh. Maybe I’ll wander out at 3am and see what’s up. There’s no internet out there, and that may be the only path of sanity Tuesday night.

[–] pearsaltchocolatebar@discuss.online 13 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I hope he strokes out and gets locked in syndrome for a few years.

I want him to experience hell on earth in case hell doesn't exist.

I just want him gone, don't care how it happens - death, prison, or retirement into obscurity, whatever. Just so long as he's out of the game.

[–] M600@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

I’m feeling so much stress over the election. I don’t even drink but I bought 2 beers today, maybe subconsciously I was looking for a way to decompress from the stress of the Election Day.

In case anyone is concerned, it’s not an alcoholism thing. I just generally do not enjoy drinking alcohol.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I'm sorry to tell you this, but it's probably gonna be well over 36 hours

[–] vividspecter@lemm.ee 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It's plausible that it could be a clear win for either candidate. But yeah, a long, dragged out counting process is also quite probable.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago

I was talking about it in another thread with someone, but It's really gonna suck if there has to be any recounts. No one (except maybe Trump) wants Bush v. Gore to happen again

[–] auzy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I'm going to bed here in Australia now, and will hopefully wake up to a harris win.. Best of luck guys. The entire world is literally hoping for this (because another 4 years of racism, narcassism, BS and cult behavior is simply too much)..

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 8 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

You definitely won't wake up to a Harris win, unless you sleep for 24 hours or more. Voting is just about to start. Won't end 'til tonight.

[–] auzy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I can live with that.. just not wake up to a Harris loss

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

You can try to figure out how tenfingers combats link decay in this whitepaper

Or figure out if Dr Pepper is a woman.

Sorry I have no more brain treats atm.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 26 points 8 hours ago

He doesn't have all that long anyway, but I sure would love to see him spending lots of time in and out of court at a minimum. Going to prison would be fantastic. Honestly, I know the likelihood is nearly nil, but the American people really, really need to see a Republican finally pay for their crimes. Stone and Bannon are out of prison and they should both be rotting there.

[–] clutchtwopointzero@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago

Running for POTUS with a history of shady business dealings and generally shady behaviour, considering the amount of scrutiny that such role attracts, perhaps was the most reckless and stupid thing Trump ever did.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 4 points 7 hours ago

He won’t go to jail. He’s too rich. I’d honestly be happy if he scapegoated Bannon again and he went back to prison. That would be funny as shit.

God I want this sentence to be more than a small hit of copium.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 50 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

This is one of those times were you just gotta roll with the hourminutes. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 31 points 9 hours ago (4 children)

Too poor for recreational drugs. And too medicated. I'm afraid all I have is exhaustion, paranoia, anxiety, and terror for the next 36 hours or so.

[–] foiledAgain@lemmy.world 33 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Looks like you picked the RIGHT week to start sniffing glue

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 13 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

Yep, Charlie Kelly time— huff glue, eat cat food and straight to pass out until it’s all over.

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Do we get to play nightcrawlers?

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 7 points 8 hours ago

Of course we’ll play nightcrawlers!

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 8 points 8 hours ago

Let's be real, is there ever a wrong week?

[–] Wilzax@lemmy.world 15 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

If your ballot is submitted, there's nothing more to do.

If not, I'll see you in line at 7:00 tomorrow!

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 16 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You'll see me in line. Limping my ass down to my assign polling place and filling out the ballot there. Hail Mary, Full of Grace.

I wonder if Jupiter is still accepting sacrifices...?

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 11 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You know as well as anyone, sacrifices are addressed "to whom it concerns"

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

Hah, it is awfully auspicious that I posted that not long ago, huh? Quocumque nomine...

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

There's organizing. There's supporting and defending each other.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago

I feel like 36 hours would be quick compared to what we'll actually get.

[–] trag468@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I hear you. I was getting way too worked up about it as well. I've reduced my phone time as best I can, got some physical activity in, and tried to focus on some hobbies. It has really been helping but it took a couple days to take effect. I'm sure that you have or will be voting. Just do your part and then try to occupy yourself with other things.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

I've tried occupying myself this whole time. I actually managed it. Just a sense of dread in the back of my head, no active, debilitating terror. But it's falling apart now that everything's so close. It was easy to kill when the election was far, and I could see it abstractly. But now it's here, and I don't have enough faith in my fellow Americans to be confident. I'm glad Harris's team is, I just hope it means something.

I just want to not wake up in a fascist regime.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 37 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Box breathing.

Box breathing involves four basic steps, each lasting 4 seconds:

  1. breathing in
  2. holding the breath
  3. breathing out
  4. holding the breath

It takes some getting used to, so you’ll be distracted at first having to concentrate on your breathing.

I also like to meditate by emptying my mind and thinking about a giant, unlit room with a spotlight on a chair that I’m sitting in. Whenever my mind wanders to anywhere but there, I force myself to bring it back and only think about me sitting in that chair. I’m neither happy, sad, nor mad. I’m just existing in the chair; breathing and existing.

And if all else fails: don’t panic. Grab a towel and stick your thumb out. Maybe you’ll get lucky and catch a ride on a Vogon ship. And most importantly, “On no account allow a Vogon to read poetry at you.”

👍 🛸👟

[–] GetOffMyLan@programming.dev 1 points 2 hours ago

If you struggle to visualise, just focus on your breathing. When you notice you are distracted bring it back to your breathing. Acknowledge where your mind drifted but try not to dwell on it as you focus back.

There are also apps available to help with breathing exercises. I had one that showed a balloon inflating and deflating. I found it easier to focus on that at first.

Counting while you box breath can also make it easier. The count can be whatever you're comfortable with. 5 5 5 5 works well for me.
