If it is open source, then I'll test it for sure.

[–] Shiroa@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

It is, or at least should be. The original source is here.

[–] eruchitanda@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same. It was the best Reddit app IMO.

I kept using it, until last week ^^"

[–] BluSpoon@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Same, I emailed the Devs yesterday suggesting a Lemmy port. Guess they already had the memo and worked on it.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I don't think it is, although that's kind of the trade off with premium client apps

[–] Shiroa@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Where is all of this coming from??? Guys, Slide is FOSS, it's under the GNUv3 license lmao

Lovely. Slide was (is?) my Reddit app of choice. As an open source app, Slide and Lemmy would go together like peanut butter and jelly.

[–] 65gmexl3@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

oh really? yeah lets do this! I still have Slide installed on my phone, excited for Lemmy version

[–] databender@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Oh HELLS yes, this was the superior reddit app

[–] Unimeron@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When Slide died slowly I eventually switched to Joey, which ie very close to Slide regarding usability. One thing Joey did better was zoomable videos. How cool is that!?

I really hope for a comeback of Slide as an Lemmy app!

Yes please, I just uninstalled slide last week. While some things would bug out ocassionally, I couldn't imagine using any other app with reddit. I'm on Jerboa now and its just not the same.

[–] wasabi@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

Awesome! I was a long time Slide user before development stopped and I switched to Infinity

[–] danielton@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Heyyy, I made it to the screenshot!

[–] noodlejetski@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

ohmygodohmygodohmygod

You son of a bitch I'm in.

[–] abominable_panda@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

YES! thank youu. That was my app for redditing. So glad the transition will be minimal with this

[–] Vulnicura@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Slide was my favorite Reddit app! This is awesome.

[–] Ralphensnitch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I never used slide. What do people like about it?

[–] florge@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For me, I liked the ability to swipe left and right between subreddits (the order on which you could configure), you could also swipe between posts. It's also open source and pretty customisable. Unfortunately it's not been updated in over a year.

[–] theory@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

The dev abandoned it cause the code is a bit of a nest, to say the least. Im trying to work on that, cause I really want slide to exist

[–] Unimeron@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

The concept of swiping was used everywhere. Makes it quick and easy to use. You could just swipe right to close a thread, or the video/image. No need to use the back button, or reach for the tiny X in the corner.

And the seamless galley mode was awesome. Very unique (only found it quite similar in Joey).

[–] sickday@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I can't speak for everyone, but I really enjoyed the "get out of your way" style the app has. I also really liked that you had to slide to upvote/downvote on posts instead of having static buttons you can accidentally press. It also had a decent system for switching between multiple accounts. Finally, it's all open source so one could fork it and customize it if they wanted to.

Yayyyyyyy! I am definitely paying for this when it comes out

[–] aaa@vlemmy.net 2 points 1 year ago

Awesome! I tried various 3rd party reddit apps over the years and stuck with slide the longest. Always liked its simplicity, ux design and focus on pictures. I'm an iOS user though, anything planned for that? (I'm on Mlem beta meanwhile.)

[–] Routhinator@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Yes! This was my favorite app.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I would give you a hand job on top of whatever the app costs. Slide was the best reddit app until it got abandoned. Slide for lemmy? I just jizzed my pants at the idea

Him too after the handy. It's jizz all over!

[–] syboxez@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Slide was my favorite Reddit client. I'm glad it's being resurrected to serve a greater purpose!

[–] yote_zip@pawb.social 2 points 1 year ago

Oh man I loved slide a lot. This is terrific.

I mean... What are the chances?! Unbelievable :D thank you, one tester eagerly awaiting :)

[–] chamim@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Wow, that was fast. I love that there's a lot of interest in creating apps for the fediverse.

[–] Gamers_Mate@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Looks good.

[–] ShellSurf@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Slide is all I've used for so long I can't even remember different! I don't go on Reddit anymore, but I've been hesitant to actually uninstall Slide. Love to be able to use it here!

[–] NightOwl@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

Slide is the very first Android app that pulled me away from Reddit is Fun until Slide got abandoned. To see it resurrected for use on Lemmy would be a dream. I loved Slide interface. Was the app I preferred over Apollo too on Apple aside from the performance issues it didn't get sorted out before being abandoned, which led me back to Apollo.

[–] farofinha@dataterm.digital 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

OMFG! I love yoo!

I was still on slide until I decided to abandon reddit altogether. I can volunter myself to test.

That would be awesome. Do you have any Git links to track progress? Thanks!

[–] theory@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

https://github.com/bqv/slide

was a bit apprehensive about sharing it, its really hard to describe how much of a challenge this codebase is. I'm constantly juggling refactoring for maintainability against just "getting something that works", but if you're interested, there you go
