Well, fuck. It always sucks to lose a companion for any reason, but cancer sure as hell sucks a little extra. Winston was a sweet looking dog. Nothing ever makes it better, but you aren't alone in the grief. Plenty of us have lost our canine buddies, so we know the pain of it too.

Hail Winston!

C'mon, y'all all were singing it too

Yo, IDGAF what you're doing, if you don't stop to pet a dog that wants petting, you aren't worthy of the term human.

If it swims, it's a fish

My damn kid left the refrigerator open

Sure. There's a rather vibrant writers' community, plenty of visual artists (including photography that isn't just cats and hiking), and the endless political shit.

You don't get as much of the random people running their mouths though.

The key to Mastodon is the # curation over time. Search your interests, use the hashtags to set up your feed, and only use the full federated feed to find terms you didn't think to search for, or that aren't obviously connected to your interests.

As an example, if you're a writer, you'll obviously follow something lunge #writing, but you might not find #pennedpossibilities, or #writerscoffeeclub by searching, despite them being active prompt based groups that end up having a lot of good interactions between writers (casual, amateurs, and pros).

Tbh, the least represented segment is the typically nerdy stuff. Much more prevalent on lemmy. There's plenty there, it just isn't as common as other segments.

Yup, best keyboard I've ever used. They made slightly different versions over the years that fit my hands as well, but none that lasted the way those do; mine is still fully functional.

Some of us write books too :)

Fwiw, and I don't know if it was intentional or not, it's embarrassed and wielder, not imbarrest or wilder.

¿Porque no los dos?

Dude, I am happy as hell for you that it took this long to experience one.

Considering how rare it is for anyone to pay enough attention to the complex and difficult processing needed to feed an obligate carnivore a vegan diet without fucking it up, I'm going to call bullshit on a vegan being allowed to have a cat. If you believe that strongly in whatever it is, just don't have a cat instead of screwing them up.

Even a dog is dubious, because again, most people can't be trusted to make their own dog food with meat and not screw the animal up. The extra steps to make it a vegetarian diet is beyond most people, and a vegan diet is harder to manage. So, you know, pick a companion animal that doesn't eat meat at all, you'll all be happier.

It isn't the diet itself that's the problem. It's humans being fucking morons and thinking they can handle the job when they can barely handle picking their nose. It's like the idiots that feed their dog grapes, raisins, and chocolate because "it hasn't hurt him any". Yet is the word they forget to add.

And, as shitty as it will seem, vegans aren't smarter or more reliable than anyone else. If anything, the kind of zealot that's going to try and feed a cat vegan instead of just picking good foods that are sourced well are less capable of using their brain properly because blind faith is a sign of stupidity.

Because everyone should hear this at least once

As the title says, a samsung tablet got updated, and now refuses to allow an older app that was working fine before the update to launch or do anything other than pop a toast saying it was built for an older android version.

While there are other app options, none are the right fit.

So, I'm hoping there's a way to make the app work anyway. It's the Swype keyboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: solved!

As viking@infosec.pub said, there is a version on xda that works, as long as you only need the basic language it comes with. There is a way to make the language packs work, but it is supposedly fiddly.

Here's [https://xdaforums.com/t/any-way-to-run-swype-dragon-keyboard-on-android-14-on-pixel-6-pro.4640113/#post-89243411](http://www..com/ the link )

Balls out!

Trust me, it's worth a listen despite what the initial thought might be.

When I go into a user profile and block the user, it reloads the feed completely, rather than returning me to where I was in the scroll.

There's a threshold, the exact number I haven't figured out yet, where connect has trouble with multiple accounts.

I have what is lovingly called "the bathroom tablet" that's there for guests. Yesterday, a fairly decent sized group was over, and they've made the migration to lemmy, so connect now has a dozen accounts on it.

Switching between them causes each account to be "lost", where you switch, and the account you're switching to is not logged in, and the one you switched from is now logged out.

Edit: the threshold seems to be around five or six accounts. At least, that's where the behavior stopped after a few experiments. Five doesn't do it at all, six only does it maybe 1/10 tries.

Haven't had a chance to sit down with the guys and try to whittle the list down to see what the threshold is yet. Don't have their login info, so there's no point yet

I can tell I'm using lemmy via connect a lot because I had 3gb of cache in it lol.

Which makes me wonder if it would be possible to have an option to clear cache on close, or some in-app way. Would be an awesome QOL feature for those of us that never remember to check until we're out of space :)

I can't seem to stay logged in on any instance, and it's taking an unusually long time after signing out and logging back in for connect to show the side menu.

When switching between accounts, it's necessary to close an reopen the app before it will show the right feed as "via instance name".

I can't tell if it's an app thing, or a lemmy thing because it started after the security issue where we all got logged out from most instances.

Even with this, I had to use a different app to make the post because it returned an error that I wasn't logged in, despite having just logged in twice.
