Is there a way to seek out certain edibles effects like how is done with different flower strains for smoking? It seems like the edibles market in Arizona is far less diverse than flower and I'm wondering if it has to do with the effects of edibles in general? I generally want a product that will energize me and help with the creakyness I've developed over the years. I basically never seek out a mellowing high or a couch lock. Thank you for any help 😁

Pretty sure it's mostly placebo, so find some edibles marked "sativa", pretend the strains didn't get irreparably mixed during prohibition, tell yourself this is better for creativity and energy, then take a smaller dose and hope for the best.

Edit: while I've never seen it, it's not impossible to imagine edibles with caffeine in them as well. Or to take some caffeine close to when your edible hits. I like to start some weekend mornings with a big pot of strong coffee and a bowl, and I tend to get a lot done those mornings. Although, I was cleaning, doing chores and cooking on Sunday morning before I started my little ritual, so take from that what you will.

Caffeine you say? I do medicated coffee daily, with my own tincture, works like a charm.

Hey that sounds interesting, can you tell me more about it and how you do it? I loooooooooove coffee, and if it got me high, I bet I'd like that too

I vape dry herb, which gives me ABV.

I collect an eighth or so, drop it into an iced tea bag, put that into a 600ml beaker, smother it in Big Red 190 (half the $ of Everclear) and let sit overnight.

In the morning (and for dayz after) I draw off 5-10cc’s, drop it in a mug, do pour over to taste and add cream to bind the THC and make it digestible.

Solid 10/10.

Sorry for the wall’o’text, hope it helps.

I'm sure the coffee covers most of the abv taste but if you water cure it first the resulting tincture tastes way better. I use a French press and agitate with the plunger, change water then agitate some more for 4 or 5 cycles until the water is clean looking then dry. Seems like more work than it is and the extracts or edibles I make taste way better.

I have not done this in the past because, as you said, it seemed like a lot of extra work. As you outlined it though, using the FP, seems pretty ez and def worth trying. Question. Do you β€œassist” the drying, i.e. low heat convection oven or just let it dry over time?

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I just let it dry. I usually use mine to put in baked goods so I if it's still a little damp it doesn't matter. For tincture I'd think fan, low temp oven or whatever would be ideal. It gets pretty dry just with the press and then I use paper towels to squeeze some more. I favor a coarser grind which helps so ymmv in that respect.

My partner and I accidentally discovered "the trifecta" of alcohol, weed, and caffeine. But it's a careful balance, you don't want a lot of any one thing.

The idea is just enough alcohol to loosen up but not enough to get drunk, a bit of weed to ground you but not so much that it's overwhelming, and caffeine to offset the sleepiness and brain fog. For us it means two espresso cocktails and half a small joint.

Obviously not something you want to do often, but ngl it's nice

This is my casual cocktail of substances when out partying, hit on the vape cart, a redbull vodka to start, then just booze as the night goes on.

But it's funny you say this because I've been thinking about trying some of these popular espresso cocktails I've been seeing. I just made myself a "whoo! Fuckin Friday!" pot of very nice coffee and put a splash of amaretto in there and might spark up when the boytoy gets home, but you got any recommendations for espresso cocktails to make at home?

I'm a big fan of "coffee and liquor of choice".

Espresso cocktails are better made with, well, espresso imo. Licor 43 is my absolute favorite spirit to pair with coffee, it's a sweet vanilla caramel flavored liquor. I like to mix it 50/50 with whiskey to increase the alcohol content without sacrificing flavor. Irish cream is also a well known favorite.

A lot of the dispensaries here have weed infused soda so those contain both caffeine and THC. You could also just smoke and then drink a cup of coffee.

Also 100% agreed that it's all placebo regarding the whole indica versus sativa business.

I have found a lot of success with CBG gummies for the energizing effect without the high. I am surprisingly more alert and focused when I take them. I found a THC vape pen that was high in the cbg, and I actually had to stop hitting it early in the afternoon or I couldn't settle down.

I have been smoking/getting high for years, and I had never experienced that before. Placebo or not, I believe it improves my day to day life (when used appropriately).

[–] investorsexchange@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago

I agree with this. Try different combinations of CBD, CBG and CBN to see how they affect you. I have only tried THC alone (nice mild buzz) and with CBG (full body high). With CBG was a far stronger effect for me, but since I was just trying different brands, it took me a couple times to figure out what was producing the different effect.

Not a lot of control with edibles, but at the end of the day, a lighter does will produce a lighter effect. Beyond that you're just regurgitating marking material.

A light euphoric high, good for creativity suuuuure bud. πŸ™„

[–] TheAlbatross@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I actually bought some "sativa edibles" thinking I'd enjoy the pairing of euphoria with a productivity boost as I tidied up the home and by gosh I sure did! I got so much done! I was a cleaning tornado, even vacuumed with the powder and all while I caught up on podcasts.

My boyfriend takes the same chewables to help him sleep 🫠

In my personal experience, a bowl or two of sativa gives that "up" feeling and makes me wanna do stuff. But if I smoke like an entire 8th of it, it makes me sleepy AF.

[–] PRUSSIA_x86@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Edibles can be finicky, and a lot of it has to do with how your body metabolizes ingested THC. For example, my brother gets basically nothing out of edibles, while I feel strong, wildly different effects depending on the strain.

[–] flumph@programming.dev 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is that why I sometimes wake up still high after taking an edible to fall asleep? I just assumed the dose per piece wasn't as tightly controlled as they advertise.

[–] OpenPassageways@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I think this has to do with what type of edibles it is and how spread out it is through food.

For example, if I eat a large brownie with 10mg in it, that's going to basically have a time release effect if I don't eat some more food with it or after it. I've taken brownies before that didn't kick in until I had another snack or meal after. I think of it like pushing the edible through.

So yeah I'd imagine if you took an edible a few hours before bed, ate no additional food, you'd probably feel it in the morning still.

Tinctures seem to kick in fast no matter what I eat or drink after though.

[–] OpenPassageways@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's been my experience that people who claim edibles "don't work for them" are just heavy flower smokers. Once I quit smoking, I had much better and more consistent experiences with edibles.

I also find tinctures in seltzer or chocolates to be the best replacement for smoking because they seem to take effect faster than a brownie or cookie.

I find a brand that seems robust and it's well stocked at my retailer and order a variety, then I find one or two I like and stick to thirst for a while. I have a list of 4-5 go-tos that do the trick, and it took a month or so to figure that out.
