I know people here don't love it, but I'm hoping this product is successful. Imagine what would happen if Google Glass got more widespread adoption and resources? We might have had AR glasses that look almost like regular glasses by now. The VR/AR space is still in it's infancy, and it's hard to impress on people how cool this technology is until they've actually tried in on.

Yeah we can just walk around looking at deep fake nude filters of everybody and they won't even know.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 23 points 9 months ago (1 children)

They'll know because they'll using the new AI deep fake nude filter finder

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 29 points 9 months ago (2 children)

That and the constant public masturbation are dead giveaways.

[–] Wizza@lemmy.zip 10 points 9 months ago

Oh shit, so that's what it was...

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 9 points 9 months ago

Perhaps this will be legalized though and you can just run a public masturbation filter if it's not to your liking?

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 9 points 9 months ago

My brain already does this. I don't need such an accessory.

well have you seen that episode of black mirror where the person(due to being a criminal) gets banned from everyone so his body just becomes a red blob in their vision and he can't see anyone else as their body becomes a white blob

I think it's gonna happen soon like blocking someone, bit this time it's irl instead of a chat

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

So you would voluntarily let someone surgically implant a HUD of sort in your eye which lets other people determine what you can and can't see?

I for one would pass on that thank you very much

It's Apple, which is a dealbreaker for me. Everything Apple is proprietary. All the OS, all the apps, everything is locked down. Last I used it, you can't even compile your own software for Apple platforms without paying a massive fee.

I will wait to buy the open source AR goggles, even if it makes me 10 years late to the bandwagon.

And lots of stuff is more expensive due to the higher development costs.

And lots of stuff is more expensive due to the ~~higher development costs.~~ presence of the apple logo.

FTFY

[–] basxto@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 9 months ago

Developers need to get comparatively exensive apple machines to develop software for apple’s operating systems. That’s what I meant. In many cases you need to pay premium for ports to iOS or Mac because of that.

Oh it definitely got me interested in VR. I'm nowhere near interested in this specific headset, but I will be buying a lower price tier one later.

[–] meliaesc@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

I know, "Meta Bad", but the Quest 3 is actually pretty fantastic. I've found it offers pretty much everything VR has to offer except eye tracking.

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I honestly think tethered headsets were holding VR back. Having to turn with a stick instead of just turning naturally is a big source of discomfort and being at least somewhat aware of the wires lowers immersion. I thought I was getting a Quest to use for Elite Dangerous, but I ended up playing standalone most of the time, and the rest is wireless PCVR.

It's apple, people here don't like apple, I don't either. I don't think it will become successful. It's not practical, it's expensive and its really not that useful. But it's the first major step I think. It's a great testing ground for future products. Hope new products will come fast. No mater who from.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

It will be apples worst vr/ar headset ever.

[–] Wizza@lemmy.zip 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I mean, that's fair and i mostly agree, but i think it'll stay around (for the better or worse) as regular vr headsets have, with them also being (somewhat less) expensive and not that useful beyond a handful of niches. Although to a lesser extent since it'll be stuck inside apple's ecosystem.

From the reviews I've seen this is almost awesome, until it isn't. But the displays are the most amazing thing from what I understand. Being able to actually replace monitors to work. I'd be more interested in VR goggles.
