/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Guys, I’m m only on season 3 of DS9. Can you give me some time before interesting me in other flavors of Trek?

And now I want to watch a spinoff series set on Ferenginar.

A spy series full of corporate deception and intrigue?

A sitcom?

🤔

A pro-capitalism parody of Star Trek that criticizes the US, and is canonically a show produced and shown by Ferengi.

Even just a feranginar news show or something would be aces.

I'm not really a fan of how DS9 just turned them in to Flanderized comic relief.

They were already too goofy to be taken as a serious enemy. They were meant to be the big bad instead of the Borg, originally.

The overhead on a war with Starfleet is overshadowed by the potential profits of simply cheating them out of their resources. Plus, they can call on their assistance as muscle... if they have a good enough excuse.

Exactly, TNG made them one dimensional and unintentionally laughable. DS9 took that foundation and let their civilization be a joke, while still allowing characters to be properly fleshed out.

I would have personally preferred a more grounded and nuanced society for them, but that's true of a lot of Star Trek's world building. They've always had a preference for making everything a planet of hats.

The first TNG episode with them ends with them literally jumping around on all fours while wearing furs and howling like cavemen.

I still find it odd that in TNG they were known to the federation only by rumor. Yet by DS9 they're a long running cornerstone of finance and commerce in the alpha quadrant.

The joke isn't Quark, it's his scheming. Rom ends up getting the girl, the respect and the throne, and Nog goes on a helluva narrative of teen idiocy, rejecting your societal values, driving for something more, survivng war, lifelong injury and PTSD
