Israeli officials fear the pope's vocal criticisms and symbolic gestures - such as this year’s nativity scene in St Peter’s Square featuring baby Jesus resting on a Palestinian keffiyeh - may influence global public opinion.

Created by Bethlehem artists Johny Andonia and Faten Nastas Mitwasi, the nativity scene prominently features Palestinian materials, including olive wood, a symbol of Palestinian resilience.

During its unveiling, Pope Francis condemned the global arms industry for profiting from human suffering and reiterated his call for an end to all wars, urging the faithful to remember those suffering in the holy land.

The display, praised by many as a message of solidarity and peace, drew backlash from Israel’s supporters, who accused the Vatican of promoting a pro-Palestinian agenda.

So apparently being Catholic is on the ever-growing list of things considered Anti-Semetic, almost as bad as being outraged at child murder.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 10 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Well I mean what was the Vatican up to in the 40's?

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 15 points 11 hours ago

Word in the locker room says Israel might counter the Vatican's child-murder accusations with some altar-boy-boning whataboutism. We'll find out after the halftime break, Cotton.

Lets find out who the good guys are!

Keep on going a bit further...

There's a good way to prevent industries from profiting on human suffering

Finally the Jews are blaming the Catholics for something.

[–] Darkard@lemmy.world 246 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

If saying that killing children is a bad thing causes you to "lash out" them maybe you're a piece of shit?

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

What if the kid was slightly annoying at the table next to me in a restaurant for like three minutes?

Well, all sin can be forgiven with enough faith and penance, so...

It's Apartheid South Africa all over again. They've got an unlimited license to be pieces of shit because they've got a bunch of incredibly wealthy, racist friends willing to prop them up indefinitely.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 13 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Indefinitely until their imaginary friend comes back down from the sky…so, forever.

The whole end times thing is too idiotic, and honestly controversial even among people who believe in such things, to be able to explain it in depth. The key element here is that Evangelicals equate the modern nation-state of Israel with the Israelites from the Bible, despite them having basically nothing to do with one another. They will gleefully defend any and all evil perpetrated by said nation-state of Israel as "acceptable", despite the heaping mountain of condemnation for such evil throughout the Bible itself.

Funny you should mention that, found out recently that the Republicans are actually trying to bring this about the actual apocalypse. Like, they really believe this.

Couldn't find the original source, but it's been reported a few places: https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/truth-many-evangelical-christians-support-israel-rcna121481

Please show the court on this doll where you.....

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 11 points 14 hours ago

I tend to agree.

I have beef with the whole thing, but he has genuinely been more forward with compassion and trying to curb the worst aspects of it all.

Here we go again, Christian kingdoms unite, we are taking another trip to the Holy Land.

[–] Gloomy@mander.xyz 11 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Can... Can we wreak Istanbul on our way there again? Just out of tradition.

So, so much irony all around here.

The head of a genocidal state is mad at the head of the world's foremost child rape syndicate, a rape syndicate with a long and storied history of orchestrating genocide itself.

And because one of them deigned to say that, maybe, mass murder of kids is bad for the brand.

Peak human species nonsense.
