We're not angry we're just disappointed.

[–] Taniwha420@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

A thumbs down is also non-aggressive. The middle finger is escalating and can be considered provocation. Thumbs down is just an expression of disapproval. It's less inflammatory and cuts deeper.

[–] MrShankles@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

My wife and I both use the "thumbs down" method. It's funniest when we're both doing it to some ass-hat, while riding together.

It often de-escalates the person though, as if they don't know how to respond. They usually just make angry gestures and mutter (probably obscenities) to themselves, but their rage usually chills out a bit. It's almost like you make them aware of how childish they're acting

[–] SatyrSack@feddit.org 20 points 1 week ago

That car is even more embarrassing than someone taking a picture of themselves giving a thumbs down.

A middle finger might imply that you have "haters" who are jealous of and you have the satisfaction that you are "pissing people off".

A thumbs-down implies that people think you're a fukkin' loser, with no other implications.

👎 > 🖕

In my opinion your comment is spot on.

I still like to imagine roman times. Thumbs down at the driver in their colossal pedestrian death machine.

Historians are not really sure though in which direction the thumb should point for the kill, but certainly keep it away from the frunk.

Edit: English grammar is hard.

What about double-jerkoff?

[–] jeanofthedead@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 week ago

It’s so much more powerful. Expressing disappointment.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 86 points 1 week ago (7 children)

Am I the only person who gets embarrassed by osmosis whenever one of these things is around? It's not even my vehicle and I am still embarrassed by it.

PS: So many of these ridiculous things around me ATM.

[–] Banichan@dormi.zone 18 points 1 week ago

I'm embarrassed to be in the same reality and timeline, let alone the same space as one of those things

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I wanted one back before we knew what they looked like.

I still wanted it after based on specs and price once it was announced.

When it came out smaller, less range, twice the price, and slathered in the stink of everything musk has done since 2019, I can't help but shake my head in disappointment every time I see one. Absolute disaster compared to what could have been.

[–] Assman@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

it came out smaller

You wanted it to be bigger? They're fucking enormous.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I was gonna ask the same thing. I don't think we're dealing with a reasonable individual here lol

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 week ago

Don't forget how they quietly abandoned the unique chassis design.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, and it's odd, the little changes they had to do to make the concept into a production model took a vehicle that was right on the cusp of being too stupid to be cool (couldn't blame someone who thought it already fell on the wrong side) and pushed it straight into rusty Pontiaz Aztek territory.

A safety bumper here, a road-suspension height there, add a few dashes of munufacturable glass and some cost cutting, and it's just... frumpy. Even apart from Elon revealing the true scope of his crazy to the world, this is a miss. I also assume most concept photos avoided the "I'm bored now let's finish it and go home!" rear angles of the design.

[–] ObstreperousCanadian@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I saw one for the first time ever recently and it looks even worse in person than in pictures. I have still, mercifully, only ever seen one.

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

There is a red one where I live.

Red.

Looks like it stole its mother's lipstick. Worst one yet.

[–] Fester@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I never had to see one IRL until yesterday, when I saw two in about 3 minutes. I was surprised at how much more dangerous and stupid they look in person.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

there's a lot near me with like 100 of them, presumably ready to sell. I'm surprised it's not been vandalized

[–] rustyricotta@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't worry, it shouldn't be long before nature vandalizes them all with rust

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

apparently it is one of the most cancelled preorders in history, with estimates that 9 purchases are made from every 100 preorders. good job elon you traitor fuckwit

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I saw one IRL omw home and I burst out laughing at how stupid it looked. Didn't stop laughing till I got home.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

it's the electric homer. without the class.

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

What does osmosis have to do with anything?

[–] Amanduh@lemm.ee -3 points 1 week ago

I think it looks cool

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I just point and laugh

To keep the Simpsons references going,

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This was the muggiest vehicle I could afford, would you like it if people made fun of your automobile?

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You went for the most humid vehicle you could find?

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Everyone needs to drive a car. Should I therefore be the butt of a joke for being chronically dry?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Pretty sure you could just apply some ointment or something to your chronically dry butt 🤷

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

The person that owns that probably craves attention and a thumbs down or up gives the a rush.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

I throw them a jack-off sign. I mean no beating around the bush, they bought the Wankpanzer.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] bamfic@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Abby Normal said what now?

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

This is the way

[–] lettruthout@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Oh look, it's a Cyberfridge.

[–] asexualchangeling@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

I just call them what they look like, dumpster trucks.

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

No, that's extra and it doesn't even fit in the """frunk"""

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Yea, but I feel like if I give the annoying local church who always sets up a forced-birth protest spot on the side of the road a thumbs down instead of a flip off when I pass them they might think I'm agreeing with them or something

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

If Man Getting Hit by Football was a car, it'd be this one.

[–] Seraph@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago

When someone cuts me off in traffic these days I just give them a big thumbs up.
