Backtracking leaves you in debt of the amount you would take

Apparently: Them playing our local city square, doing a terrible performance, acting like prima donnas, and then after inviting people to come see them at the merch booth after the show, then never showing up.

I was talking about money, but sounds like you would do it for free

$0 apparently. I used to love Kanye. I could mostly excuse his bullshit because he was just clowning on the black community, and as a member, I could ignore it. But when he went "defcon" on the Jewish community, I kinda had to take a step back. Not necessarily because of what he was saying, but seeing him on Alex Jones in that mask with the net and the yoohoo, I realized how actually insane he was. I haven't actively listened to him in like 2 years, which sucks because say what you want about his mental state, the dude could make some good music.

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Can't fault you for that honestly. Kanye's music has gone to shit now with his ever declining mental state due in part to his nitrous usage. Did you hear vultures 2? Complete shitshow; not to even mention the nazi shit

[–] Kevo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Honestly I haven't listened to anything past Donda. I love graduation and mbdtf, and Bound 2 and Moon still give me chills just for melodies. But I've still got Chance and Cudi so I'm good

[–] gila@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

Same, the last straw for me was the 'white lives matter' Yeezy fashion show.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 1 points 1 month ago

"dude could make some good music"
debatable

proud of you tho <3
too many Klanye fans still stick to him for god knows why

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Severe brain damage; to such degree that having the desire, or enjoyment of music, impossible.

I would rather be a vegetable than give up Baby Shark.

Like $50, my favorite artist changes all the time

[–] grandel@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

I like this comment but can't relate. Do I upvote it or not?

[–] drdiddlybadger@pawb.social 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

2 million would be nice.

But in reality free. If I found out they supported Israeli violence against Palestinians or were Republicans or something it would immediately sour the music for me.

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

I've definitely trimmed some artists from my personal music library over their politics.

It still makes me sad that Bruce Dickenson was Pro-Brexit.

[–] BrownMinusBlue@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 month ago

And he doesn't believe in global warming

[–] CaptainBasculin@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

My favourite artist changes every 2-3 years, as i fill my music library with more songs. So, I'll have to give it that much time before i find another artist as my favourite. Why not? I'd take it for like 5000.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 month ago

It'd have to be an incredible amount. Music is my first passion. You'd have to give me huge fuck-you-money.

[–] CMDR_Horn@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Don’t truly have a favorite artist, so to me, this is more of a question of how much money would it take for you to endure a minor inconvenience for the rest of your life?

50k ?

[–] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago

Not much. Most of my listening is done via "random" streams or the radio at work.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I don't have a single favorite artist, I have dozens. So if you ask me to stop listening to one, really not that much.

Hell, I've willingly done it before when they turned problematic, like with Crystal Castles

[–] Vanth@reddthat.com 4 points 1 month ago

You mean I could get paid to be told what my favorite artist is? Little ol' indecisive me? Sold!

Please give me 100 Mio and I will never listen to Yoko Ono again.

[–] johannes@lemmy.jhjacobs.nl 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nothing. I would never agree to such thing. I could never not listning to Celine.

[–] geography082@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah or Backstreet Boys 😍

[–] johannes@lemmy.jhjacobs.nl 0 points 1 month ago

AAAASSSS LOOOONGGG AS YOU LOOOVVEEEE MEEEEE!!! LAAALLALALAAAALALALAAAAAA

[–] RandomVideos@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago

Any amount of money

I dont have a favorite artist so i would just get free money without doing anything

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I don't care about any particular artist enough to require a huge amount so you'd mostly be paying me for the inconvenience of remembering to follow through for 50 or so years.

We're looking at something like one annual salary because anything less won't make enough of a difference to bother with the effort for half a century.

[–] neshura@bookwormstory.social 3 points 1 month ago

oh boy that would be one hard sell. Probably would need 500k or more to justify never listening to them again

[–] Briict@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

As little as 25Β’ if they say they never borrowed it then got insulted when I say it's not cool that they aren't paying me back.

[–] Fixbeat@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

I have hundreds of favorites that I rarely listen to anymore. So, not much money.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There is not that amount of money. I could not make that deal.

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

With the caveat that I end up a mill in debt if I slip up? Nope. I know I'd slip up. The risk / reward ratio isn't good enough.

A mill isn't that much money to have, but it's a lot of money to owe. No deal.

[–] Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I mean if we're just naming a price you could say something like 100m+, invest it for profit for X amount of time and either intentionally or unintentionally slip up at some point, pay back the original and be pretty nicely set with no further catch.

Sure it's clearly not within the spirit of the question, but still.

[–] yngmnwntr@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It also says you end up in debt, not owe. So it would presumably cost you everything you have and THEN the original amount.

[–] Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Possible, but "in debt" can equally mean you just owe the money, it doesn't have to mean bankrupt with the debt on top of it. If you owe your credit card company 10k you're in debt 10k until you pay them, regardless of whether you have 1 million in the bank. Same if you have student loans etc.

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

I don't listen to my favorite artist much at all. I've listened to them a lot in my life, and i love their songs every time one comes up randomly, but I've heard all their songs so many times in my life that i almost never purposely play them

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Millions.

And what's hilarious is that I know so many people that also enjoy the band that it would be losing very little.

Money that could set me for life

I don't really have a "favorite" artist, everyone I listen to is really just replaceable. I'd say that I'd stop for 500 USD

[–] mub@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can I still hum their tunes to myself?

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

As long as you aren't streaming it from anywhere

[–] Jourei@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

How much ya got?

Music isn't that important to me so I'd probably be fine in the thousands but I'd make it sound like I would need millions.
