Weird how republicans keep doing everything that America is supposed to stand against. Almost like they are actually an enemy that infiltrated America and are trying to destroy it from the inside.

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 61 points 4 months ago (2 children)

All this is too much. Trump needs to step down so the Republicans can nominate someone else at the convention.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 21 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Why the fuck would they do that when they literally just made it legal for him to do whatever he wants

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 24 points 4 months ago (7 children)

Voters are demanding it. It's exploding all over the Internet.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Not their base tho. Their base is eating this shit up.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

He's been doing this schtick all day.

Its exploding on the Internet.

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That's what I heard. Everyone is saying it.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

And we have all the best people out here saying it too. Like seriously only the best people

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 60 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Weird how republicans keep doing everything that America is supposed to stand against while calling themselves patriots / "Real Americans"

Almost like they are actually an enemy that infiltrated America

Implying that they're coming from the outside and aren't home-grown conservatives

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The movement could've infiltrated from the outside and has co-opted the home-grown conservatives

[–] dactylotheca@suppo.fi 2 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yeah sure, you can tell yourself whatever you need to to keep believing that evil foreigners are the reason conservatives are like this

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Are you genuinely not familiar with the foreign money that goes into funding far-right movements in the West (and the US in particular)? Or the various international parties who stand to gain from having Trump elected?

Almost like they are actually an enemy that infiltrated America and are trying to destroy it from the inside.

That's exactly why they are getting so much support from Russia and why Russia and China are fucking with us over social media/the internet. They can't win a traditional war and America largely stands against their goals so the best way to take us down is by having us do it to ourselves. I think Republicans are just too power hungry to serve their greed and they're too naive/heartless to consider what they could actually do to the country by taking advantage of the disruption other countries are causing.

I actually really believe they're going to succeed in "taking us down" and have already done severe damage to our "social fabric." Hell we can claim without exaggerating that there are large portions of our population that are living in completely opposite versions of reality via the media they consume. Propaganda exists to serve a specific purpose.

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

It's more deflection, Republicans rail against what Democrats supposedly want to do, then in the long run they just do it themselves.

[–] solrize@lemmy.world 65 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Secretary of retribution made me smile, but then I remembered this is about real life rather than fanfiction.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 36 points 4 months ago

If you wrote that about the baddies in a YA Fiction novel, people would laugh at you

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 53 points 4 months ago (2 children)

But Raiklin is nothing if not self-assured that the “evidence” he’s gathering on anti-Trump “deep state” plotters is real. So real, it seems, that Raiklin claims the material — fully revealed — would establish probable cause for county sheriffs across the nation to issue arrest warrants for various high-ranking officials who have, in one way or another, run afoul of Trump.

Under Raiklin’s objectively bizarre plan, the sympathetic sheriffs would deputize some 75,000 military veterans — veterans he claims have been pushed out of service because they refused to comply with COVID-19 vaccine mandates — to carry out the arrests.

Objectively bizarre

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 30 points 4 months ago

So was Nazism.

[–] mozz@mbin.grits.dev 27 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It’s not at all

I mean, it is bizarre, yes. But it’s also terrifying. The undoing and overtaking of the democratically guard-railed structures of law enforcement is one of the last stages in a fascist collapse. After that, there’s basically nothing left.

They’re trying to figure out how to make an armed force that will go out and use deadly force in public on American streets against anyone who’s disloyal to the movement in any way. And, it’s vital to cloak it in a veneer of legitimacy - hence using friendly sheriffs, hence the confusing setup of “State Guards” by analogy with National Guard, but explicitly loyal to a person as opposed to the constitution. And, because a lot of these people will have friends in law enforcement and normal-looking badges and uniforms, and endorsement from the highest offices in the for real US government, the real law enforcement will hesitate to do anything about it, in a way they wouldn’t (as much) if it was a Patriot Front mob in khakis that was “arresting” a Democratic governor or whatever they are doing.

They’re not sure how to do it, yet, and what will work and what won’t. That’s why it’s so bizarre and hamfisted. But they keep trying, and no one’s stopping any of the explicitly seditious efforts which in any functioning democracy would be instantly recognized as the incredible danger that they are. And sooner or later, one of these things they try is gonna catch on and start working.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And so after a decade of wrecking the courts and passing every Qultists wet dream of bullshit legislation, when they finally get coked up enough to try something, who or what will stop them.

Well, the only people or things left. So. What haven’t we tried yet?

Anyone. Anyone? Beuller?

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

We've only used the first two boxes so far. If the ballot box and soap boxes fail, it is time to get out the ammo boxes.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 50 points 4 months ago

I'd suggest Canada needs to start offering political asylum but Canada's about to elect an ally of these fascists. These are worrying times.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago (6 children)

There's going to have to be another civil war, isn't there?

[–] ghostdoggtv@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago

Republicans have said as much, win or lose they're going to spill American blood.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I've been saying since the early 2000 that I will see another civil war in my lifetime. I thought it'd be in my 80s. But nope.

Here we are.

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 7 points 4 months ago

We're just about on schedule for the one Star Trek predicted

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Putins pet already started it.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Which pet? He has a whole fucking menagerie.

[–] dactylotheca@suppo.fi 8 points 4 months ago

But will it happen before or after conservatives set up extermination camps for anyone left of Himmler?

[–] Corvidae@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago
[–] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

The civil war never ended. It’s just been simmering for 159 years.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You know what the trick is to figuring out what Trump will do next?

You just listen to what he says and then believe he'll do what he says he'll do.

He'll do this thing. Pretending he won't is naive.

[–] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 months ago

And to find out what he has already done, just listen to what he accuses others of doing.

[–] Neato@ttrpg.network 9 points 4 months ago (3 children)

I've been hoping Biden would do this since the SCOTUS decided he can't commit crimes as POTUS. Just have a list of every Republican and SCOTUS justice who has been credibly accused of crimes. Then just send those to the FBI to have investigations, charges and arrests fast-tracked.

Afterall, those are the positions where criminals can do the most harm and investigation should be taken serious and done quickly.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 months ago

The Democrats still seem to think you can fight fascists by pointing out that they're being naughty and impolite.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Sadly, Joe has morals and ethics.

[–] Neato@ttrpg.network 16 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yeah. That's the real answer to this: exploiting this fuck-awful SCOTUS decision plunges the US into an authoritarian state.

The choice is: do you let Trump and Republicans do it if they win and turn American into a christo-fascist state? Or do it yourself to prevent that and turn into a "better?" abusive state? There's really no winning here but we have to do something or we're screwed.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 months ago

If the choice is between a benevolent dictator and a normal dictator, I choose the former all day long.

The only reason to choose the latter is if you actually want a dictator because you believe you won't be affected or because you hope that it will rally a resistance.

Either way we are fucked.

Purely hypothetical but at what point does it become justifiable to start putting bullets in these fucks before they try and do the same to others?
