For the previous 8 years, instead of fighting fascism and white nationalism, the Democrats have made their enemy the populists within their own party.

It ended expectedly.

I mean look around you. For years' we've been shoulder to shoulder with apologists who claim to be on the supposed "left" but keep making excuses to defending the indefensible.

You can't have bipartisan ship with fascism: thats just more fascism.

You can't expect people to support the lessor two evils: its just more evil.

Policies that only ever do half of the job of fixing the problem never results in the problems being solved.

What we're experiencing is the true cost of the half-a-loaf politics of the liberal, NPR, Pod-Save-America, Democrat. Obama-era nothing burger chickens come home to roost.

After raising more than $1 billion, the Kamala Harris campaign is expected to end up with millions of dollars of debt once it’s done paying vendor invoices. The debt will likely get passed along to the Democratic National Committee and could burden the party as it works to rebuild after its catastrophic election season.

President-elect Donald Trump is already scoring political points over the Democrats’ debt issues. Over the weekend, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do. We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was ‘Earned Media,’ and that doesn’t cost very much.”

You’ve probably heard already about some of the Harris campaign’s most outlandish splurges, like the $1 million it paid to the media company of surrogate Oprah Winfrey, or running ads on the Las Vegas Sphere, or spending six figures to build a set for the “Call Her Daddy” podcast while declining to appear for free on the Joe Rogan podcast.

I've said this before, but I think it needs to be repeated:

The populist, anti-elitist lane on the left is wide open. I don't know that a mainstream "Democratic" party can take that lane, and I don't know if we should bother trying to drag them there. However, what I can say is that there is going to be some significant hay to make in that field.

I think Pramila Jayapal, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Delia Ramirez, Jamaal Bowman, Summer Lee, Cori Bush, Katie Porter, anyone who has been rat-fucked by Democrats should all abandon their identification with the Democratic party and become independents. And in the time that he has left, at their lead, should be Bernie Sanders, who never needed to be told about the consequences of running with milquetoast policies.

Even if they caucus with Democrats, true progressives need to show them that their votes aren't a given, and if they want them, they need to take a step towards their legislative priorities. Giving up our votes without leverage, giving in to the Washington groupthink: THIS LOSES ELECTIONS!

We shouldn't focus on redeeming the Democratic party. Let them sink. Focus on getting good quality, reliable progressive populists elected. The Democratic party is a fucking anchor and we're better off without it. Let those unwilling to let go of that Washington groupthink sink with it.

Only a small portion of GenZ was incentivized to show up this election. Interpreting the fact that only right wing GenZ showed up shouldn't be treated as a condemnation of a generation. White women didn't show up for Harris either. Would we make the same condemnation?

It all comes down to the fact that Democrats offered little and less in the four years where they could have accomplished something, and when called out for that, those critical were told to shut the fuck up.

What the Democrats offered was right wing politics: their base won't vote for it. Which isn't to say that groups like GenZ or women won't show up if you actually offer them something they want to vote for.

This loss can be dropped squarely on the shoulders of the deeply toxic "Blue No Matter Who/ Blue MAGA/ You can't be critical of Democrats because you only have two choices" philosophy. It was seriously at work here on Lemmy, and moderation and prominent posters here (and across the internet) did real damage filtering down forums like c/Politics, r/Poltiics, etc to select for a narrow and now very proven wrong approach to electoralism.

People really gotta stop taking MIT articles as meaningful.

it was a political lie.

Not too dissimilar how the administration handled holding Trump accountable for his crimes. Too little, too late, and clearly just for show in an election year.

If you don't see the direct connection between how Biden has governed and how that set up Trump to win, I don't know that you can be helped.

Its beyond the scope of my comprehension, how you can call Trump a fascist one week, and then congratulate him winning the next.

This is a strong signal that Harris may over-perform polling.

Across battlegrounds, there is a 10-point gender gap in early voting so far, according to a POLITICO analysis.

Buckle up and brace for impact.

To win, Harris should talk more about working-class needs and less about Trump

The 2024 campaign has entered the final stretch and, as polls tighten, it seems Kamala Harris plans to lean into attacking Donald Trump as a threat to democracy.

Over the past week the Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press, the Washington Post, the New York Times and even the conservative National Review have all reported or commented on the messaging pivot. In a newly unveiled official campaign ad, a disembodied voice warns gravely that a second Trump term “would be worse. There would be no one to stop his worst instincts. No guard rails.” At a recent rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Harris reminded her supporters of Project 2025, the “detailed and dangerous plan” that she believes an “increasingly unstable and unhinged” Trump will follow to cement “unchecked power”. She sounded the alarm about the dire threat Trump poses to “your fundamental freedoms” and how in his second term he would be “essentially immune” from oversight.

I think this will be readable to non-members? I'm at least going to repost the first bit, and if people can't access, I'll copy pasta the whole thing.

Trump’s running a Billboard Lawyer campaign

I’m sure you’ve seen those big billboards for plaintiffs’ attorneys: for whatever reason, there are usually lots of them out near the airport. They usually look something like this:

These billboards are not advertising that the attorney is a nice guy. Because you don’t want a nice guy. You’re not trying to win a popularity context. You’re trying to win a lawsuit. You want someone aggressive. Hit back! Get the Gorilla, whatever that means. In fact, you probably expect the plaintiff’s attorney to be a little bit of an asshole. But he’s your asshole. He’s on your side.

You know who this reminds me of?

Posting this because its happening live. 300k viewers. Currently a tornado outbreak in the evacuation zones for Milton.

At one point in this weird nonsensical abortion they call life, I had a 64 Ford Econoline. It was the model that had 360 windows (the 8 door model). It was the most fun touring vehicle I've ever been in. Granted it only did 55 with the pedal to the metal (quite literally floored). The best vehicle I've ever owned. So great for doing back roads in. You could see EVERYTHING.

So the Canoo is going to have a 360 view and a full roof moon roof? Consider me sold for island driving. Come out and see me bruh you gonna get a tour of the island.

So has anyone bought a like.. gen 0 vehicle before? I've never owned a new car. And never from ab untested manufacturer. I'm just lucky to have this chanc.

Like, I expect deliveries to start in the next few months and I'm trying to set expectations for myself. Has any one here preordered an EV? Is this a mistake? Should I just get another leaf?

On Monday, flights at Beirut’s airport were canceled as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to carry out a “harsh” military attack on Lebanon, following Saturday’s deadly strike on a Syrian Druze community in the Israeli-occupied Golan town of Majdal Shams. The horrifying incident killed 12 children on a soccer field.

Israel and the U.S. immediately accused Hezbollah of hitting the town with a Falaq-1 rocket launched from southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has denied it was behind the attack and both it and the Lebanese government have called on the United Nations to undertake an independent investigation.

The way that blame for this incident unfolded publicly lends itself to competing theories of responsibility. Earlier Saturday, Hezbollah had announced it had launched a series of attacks on nearby Israeli military installations in retaliation for the killing of four Hezbollah fighters in an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon. When news of the deaths at the soccer field began to emerge, Hezbollah swiftly issued a statement saying that it had “no connection to the [Majdal Shams] incident at all, and categorically denies all false allegations.” Hezbollah charged that an Israeli Iron Dome interceptor missile had missed its target and hit the town. Israel has claimed it identified the Hezbollah commander of the strike.
