Elon said "come back to the office" girl what office???

[–] lemmymarud@lemmy.marud.fr 13 points 1 year ago

Elon shows an old building ready to get demolished This office !

[–] ljrk@todon.eu 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@mint I really don't have much love for landlords, but them and huge CEO fucktwits fighting against each other is definitely an "oh, nice"

[–] JakeBacon@lemm.ee 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Reminds me of a meme (read brilliant idea) I saw where minimum wage should be tied to average rent in order to start a war between landlords and companies.

[–] cavemeat@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Oh that's kinda genius.

[–] Gamers_Mate@kbin.social 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Twitter has an office in Boulder? Makes sense I thought Elon was living under a rock.

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@beehaw.org 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ba dum tss! For real though, how did he think skipping rent was going to be ok?

[–] TooTallSol@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's one way companies cancel leases and may be the best way to break a lease depending on how it's written. Then they get evicted and the lease is cancelled.

Look at San Francisco and all the companies just walking away from buildings while stopping any payments to said leases and loans. It's not that uncommon.

[–] GunnarRunnar@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What kind of damages would breaking a lease create compared to not paying rent and getting evicted after months? Why wouldn't you still be in the hook for breaking a lease?

[–] blakerboy777@lemmy.one 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah, this really doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The way a commercial lease is written, you owe all rent for the agreed upon term, to be paid monthly. If you want to break the lease, early termination may have some slight benefit or a way to mitigate having to pay out the entire term- for example you may be able to find a new tenenat and negotiate a smaller fee for breaking the lease since the landlord will have no loss in income. If you just stiff them on the payments, they will obviously just sue you for the full amount with no way to mitigate that. Who would write a lease that let one party unilaterally out of their obligation when they break the terms of the contract?

[–] borlax@lemmy.borlax.com 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I’ve done the same thing to all my landlords.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago

He was stoned?

[–] Whar@beehaw.org 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is there anything Twitter is paying for????

[–] LoamImprovement@beehaw.org 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're paying in spades for Elon fucking everything up.

[–] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Unbelievable really. These quotes from one of his many other lawsuits shows just how entitled he is.

Elon doesn't pay rent, one member of the transition team told Hawkins. Another member of the transition team put it more bluntly to Killian: Elon told me he would only pay rent over his dead body. 7. Both Killian and Hawkins were told that for Musk, the fact that Twitter was legally or contractually obligated to pay a particular sum would be irrelevant to the decision of whether to actually pay it when that amount came due that Musk operated on a zero cost basis"

And

  1. Between the demands that he effectively participate in theft and fraud and instructions to take actions inviolation of California law and that could put his colleagues lives at risk in the event of a fire a possibility only increased by the unlicensed use of space heaters Killian had no choice but to walk away from the job he had dedicated over a decade of his life to .
[–] Cylinsier@beehaw.org 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Elon told me he would only pay rent over his dead body.

Wow, what an insufferable douchebag he is.

[–] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Personally I have no issue with wanting to break free from landlords but the fraud theft and staff endangerment aren't great.

[–] Cylinsier@beehaw.org 6 points 1 year ago

It's one thing when you're living paycheck to paycheck and the landlord fucks you over with an arbitrary rent increase. It hits different when it's a billionaire crybaby doing it because he thinks it makes him sound cool and not because it has anything to do with sticking it to the man.

[–] tangentism@beehaw.org 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Musk: People who WFH are lazy and should come back to the office

Musk: .....but I aint paying the rent on that office!

[–] Joe_schmo90@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Or janitorial staff or pay for toilet paper.

[–] Lucy@beehaw.org 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wish I had more to add to this conversation, but for now this will have to suffice: 😂

[–] argv_minus_one@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Also consider “💩”. Musk is quite fond of this one, I'm told.

[–] Lucy@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Lol. Duly noted.👍

[–] user@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 year ago

Landchads can't stop winning 💪💪

[–] JayDurst@beehaw.org 8 points 1 year ago

I await the day a sheriff shows up at one of their offices to confiscate some property to settle debts.

[–] Plume@beehaw.org 7 points 1 year ago

Can't go back to the office if there's no office to return to.

[–] LostCause@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pathetic. How anyone can deal or invest with "businessmen" like Trump and Musk who mainly grift, steal, lie and don‘t even pay their debts—no clue!

[–] Zelsabriel@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The irony of the man choosing to use the name Tesla when he's just another Edison.

Actually, even that is probably giving him too much credit...

[–] Cleopatra@c.im 3 points 1 year ago

@Zelsabriel @LostCause
I'm TeamEdison: dude was genuinely smart and helped a lot of inventions go to market.
And Edison and Tesla were both massive a-holes.

[–] trex@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Didn't Elon wante to end remote work? Seems like he needs to make up is mind...

[–] Anarch157a@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Naah. This is (in his POV) excelent. He can just fire an e-mail at 3:00AM saying: "Everyone from Boulder will have to check in to the SF office by tomorrow. If you fail to do so, I'll assume you abandoned work and is no longer employed at Twitter".

What a POS...

[–] EvilColeslaw@beehaw.org 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thankfully the laws aren't always super dumb and take into account pretext. For example, if he said "If you don't show up to work in San Francisco then I will take that as your resignation." then it would be what's called a constructive dismissal. It is in fact a termination, because the demands are so unreasonable precisely in order to get employees to quit. So he'd still be on the hook for any severance owed, etc

[–] dingus@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

So he’d still be on the hook for any severance owed, etc

He's being sued left and right for.... *checks notes.... not paying severance. So I'm not so sure "on the hook for severance" means much either.

[–] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 6 points 1 year ago

Honestly, it was only a matter of time before this happened. I'm not surprised at all..

[–] ZILtoid1991@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Twitter is dying, but not some very spectacular death of the service stopping to work altogether in one day, but a slow, painful one.

[–] mobyduck648@beehaw.org 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah even Digg still exists as a husk of its former self.

[–] Scribbd@feddit.nl 4 points 1 year ago

Stories never end... They peter out.

[–] cavemeat@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

Its the same death as most social websites. They just sorta fade from the minds of the public until its just a husk with 10 daily users.

[–] LimitedBrain@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago

Can't believe they laid their own landlord off.

[–] AboyBboy@pawb.social 4 points 1 year ago

Based landchads.

[–] Calcharger@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] JASN_DE@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait, why only for Eva? What about all the others?

[–] Calcharger@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

Eva proved her work ethic over the Covid snow day so she gets to sleep in

[–] sebsauvage@framapiaf.org 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@mint
Wokay.

[–] lemmymarud@lemmy.marud.fr 3 points 1 year ago

Y a des gens qui promeuvent son intelligence, hein. Je pense que c'est pour ces gens là que les étiquettes "ne pas boire" ont été inventées sur les bouteilles de javel.

[–] VulcanSphere@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

This is fine according to Lord Elon, right?

[–] econpol@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Embarrassing

[–] lovesickoyster@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

easy way to get out of the lease...

[–] matzah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

I love this song
