"I will betray you at every turn."

*saves the Federation again*

This is technically correct, he betrayed your expectation that he would betray you.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

But only when you expect the betrayal. It’s when you trust him not to, that you must be careful.

It's criminal that Berman would only allow the Garak/Bashir thing to be subtext. The first gay couple on Star Trek and also a cross-species couple would have been amazing. The best we got was evil mirror Kira fucking anything.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

To be fair, The Intendant can get it.

Ok I am SO GLAD I was not imagining this! I’m only halfway through S2 of DS9, and but I have been sitting here questioning whether Bashir and Garak were gonna have a little something going on in the future, or if the girl in my class that talks loudly about her yaoi manga collection was finally getting to me…

Well, if you need something that a simple tailor can help you with... like high-stakes negotiation with foreign governments, data exfiltration, intelligence analysis, or other such trivial tasks that don't require contacts or secret knowledge, he's the man for you!

[–] MajorHavoc@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think what we have here is a misunderstanding. Whatever his sexuality, Garak is clearly just a plain, simple, tailor.

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 9 points 10 months ago

Whatever his sexuality

It's plain and simple. He's pretty forward about that.

[–] hesusingthespiritbomb@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Garek is not a hero, and he's certainly not noble.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 39 points 10 months ago

Yes - he’s just a plain, simple tailor.

[–] darth_helmet@sh.itjust.works 20 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What’s ignoble about this simple tailor?

[–] ggppjj@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

Why, just the other day he hemmed a formal gown for a client two inches too short!

Why are you apologizing for a Twitter link?

[–] match@pawb.social 7 points 10 months ago

It's basically Garak and Ashok for this trope

Am I like tone deaf or something because I never got like a gay vibe from him.

[–] Thisfox@sopuli.xyz 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

His interaction with the doctor was very romantic. Not sexual, just delightfully romantic.

[–] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

I just thought they were buds just like O'Brien and the doc. Never got a gay vibe from it I just thought it was 2 guys being friends with eachother.

Can you give an example of how it was romantic?

[–] DroneRights@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

O'Brien is also gay for Bashir

Guess I'm just super tone deaf cuz that didn't look gay to me.

[–] NoSpiritAnimal@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Ok go back and rewatch but pretend one of them is your preferred gender.

There is so much vaseline on the lense when Bashir doesn't know what to do with his hands it's like a 50's romantic movie.

According to Andrew Robinson's book Garak is bisexual though. Also if you haven't listened to Andrew Robinson reading "A Stitch in Time" you're missing out.

Where's a Garak? the new hit game of finding characters like Garak in other media!
