Why did the chicken cross the road?

To get to the other side, where he was meeting his church group to tell them he would no longer be attending.

Great except for my shampoo irritating the paper cut on my finger πŸ˜„

This post was inspired by me wondering how I got one. I'm pretty sure it was from opening junk mail, one of the few ways I interact with paper anymore.

Is that Chris Parnell?

Last time I saw it, it didn't have the unnecessary explanation at the top.

I'd recommend checking out 4d Toys - I believe it is compatible with VR so you could sort of do what you're describing.

Not great, not terrible.

This is an interesting idea. A few potential issues come to mind:

  • In this system, each community needs moderators from each instance it is on. A small instance run by one person would face a challenge finding people to moderate potentially hundreds of communities.
  • You mention that a user who doesn't like their instance's moderation can use a different instance, but this isn't easy. There's no account migration at the moment. This is more of an issue with the lack of that functionality, since there are many other reasons people would want to switch instances.
  • If this was implemented, presumably it would require merging all existing communities that share names. There may be some big differences in the culture and content of these instances which could cause problems. You'll find different content in the "memes" communities on lemmy.world, slrpnk.net, and hexbear.net.

Interesting video about the history of Seattle and how it's reflected in the map.

update - after doing some research online, I found I was able to just reply to the text message with "yes" and it confirmed the reservation.

Back in school I heard the story that Haydn wrote the "Surprise Symphony" because he was sick of people sleeping through his music, and wanted to startle them awake. It seems like this was a myth.

From the Wikipedia article:

In Haydn's old age, his biographer Georg August Griesinger asked him whether he wrote this "surprise" to awaken the audience. Haydn replied:

No, but I was interested in surprising the public with something new...

Why do all the cool stories from history end up being made up?

I'm thinking in the U.S. and Canada. For example, if you're on vacation, you've checked out of your hotel room and have several hours until your flight, and you have some cans of beer left over. I know you could sneakily drink them in a park or something, but I'm just curious if there's any way to do it that's legal.
