A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules may be more established as time goes on, but it's important to have a foundation to work on.

1. Follow the rules of Lemmy.world - These rules are the same as Mastodon.world's rules, which can be found here.

2. Include a community title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/community@instance.com)

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

!community@instance.com

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

I shared bits and pieces of this before, but it's officially up and running now: https://www.search-lemmy.com/

This is an enhanced search engine for Lemmy. With a few primary goals:

  • You can choose a preferred instance. After choosing what your primary instance is, and performing a search ALL links will open in that instance.
  • This aims to be a replacement for using site:reddit.com in Google, but just for the fediverse.
  • You can filter the search results by:
    • Instance -- This will filter the results to only show communities that belong to a particular instance. Just type something like instance:lemmy.wrold or instance:https://lemmy.world/. This is separate from your preferred instance, such that you can search for posts on lemmy.world while still opening them on lemmy.ml.
    • Community -- You can refine the search by a specific community. You use the same syntax that you'd use here community:[!fediverse@lemmy.world](/c/fediverse@lemmy.world).
    • Author -- Similar to the above you can also filter by a specific author such as: author:@marsara9@lemmy.world.
  • The entire thing is open-source. You can view the code and even host your own instance... See more details here: https://github.com/marsara9/lemmy-search.

NOTE: This only supports Lemmy instances for now. Other fediverse type instances may be in the future depending on how this works out.

I've been working on this over just the last few weeks, so it hasn't had a chance to crawl much of the fediverse yet. For now it only supports lemmy.world and lemmy.ml but other preferred-instances will come online as time goes by.

If anyone finds any bugs, and I'm sure you will, or if anyone has any suggestions PLEASE raise an issue on GitHub for me to track. Lastly, if anyone wants to help contribute please feel free to reach out.

NOTE TO SERVER ADMINS: You can prevent your site from being crawled by adding lemmy-search to your robots.txt for the user-agent.

As we have pass our thousandth post and continue to grow, I'd felt like it would be a good idea to have more than one moderator for this community. You do not have to be on lemmy.world to apply.

It shouldn't take all day to moderate, but it's not trivial either. Please only apply if you think you'd be able to moderate.

Please message me with the following information if you would like to apply:

  • Your timezone.
  • Any moderation experience? (Not required, but if so, give basic details. Not just on Lemmy, any platform.)
  • Any other details you want to give.

Expectations

You are expected to moderate for spam and uncivil content in general and handle any other situations that may occur but also uphold the rules of lemmy.world on this community, which are here: https://lemmy.world/legal Also, help other users when needed.

This isn't exactly the most formal process, but this is a casual community and most of us are new, so I'm trying to make it as simple as possible.

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a community not found message?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. *Q: Why isn't the link working on kbin.social?"

A: This is a community for Lemmy, there is a universal link for Lemmy, but when this universal link works on kbin. It turns out like the below.

https://kbin.social/c/newcommunities@lemmy.world/

Simply replace the c with an m for kbin.social like shown below.

https://kbin.social/m/newcommunities@lemmy.world/

*Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that? *

A: (This may be removed soon as it is seems to be happening less often now.) This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

Cross-Posting

On Lemmy you can use the the built in cross post function to link viewers of one post to another. This lets users quickly see what people in other communities are saying and also has the potential to expose someone to something new. For community owners this is a great way to go about seeding discussion in new communities.

Thanks to this post and creator for this tip!

Hi all!

So, I'm assuming everyone has seen links like https://beehaw.org/c/news and clicked through to find it doesn't work right because it's a different site (I'm assuming a different instance here).

Well, I just stumbled across an interesting feature: if you enter a link in the following format, it works for everyone regardless of instance of origin:

[News](/c/news@beehaw.org)

News

[My User](/u/barbarian@lemmy.reckless.dev)

My User

You're welcome!

As the title says it's a community based around early years learning and development, so from birth up to pre-school.

Mainly aimed at educators, teachers, and anyone else who works with these age ranges but more than happy to field questions from parents who may be wanting more information to help them.

It's a bit of a niche community, so I'm going to struggle to grow it but Lemmy needs more industry professional spaces!

Edit: It's a .au domain, but the community is for everyone no matter where you live.

Realising that I can literally just make Community's for all my interests is really freeing.

!trams_trolleys_streetcars@lemmy.blahaj.zone was the first community I made and is already going really nicely!

!oldtimers_youngtimers@lemmy.blahaj.zone was made after it and is a bit of a passion project of mine since I love oldtimers~

!catposting@lemmy.blahaj.zone was made after realising that there is no real place to post those cat shitposts you might see on discord or twitter which I adore! Though I gotta figure out how to post Videos properly on lemmy for it...

!creep_podcast@lemmy.blahaj.zone was pretty much made today. Not sure if anyone will ever care here for it, but I wanted to make it regardless! I love these Podcasts, they have been such a joy.

!thegametheorists@lemmy.blahaj.zone I admittedly made too late (was created today). I think a lot of people might either enjoy or actually dislike this community (since it'll be a lot of those videos Thumbnails and discussion threads which might get annoying quick), but I do think having these fan community's can help Lemmy in the longrun as I honestly haven't seen any of them yet. Also I really wanna discuss the New Hosts for the theory channels with other people!!

If I ever do make more community's, I really gotta look into not just using lemmy.blahaj.zone though. Wouldn't wanna create a lemmy.world or lemmy.ml situation where those become just way too big/bloated for their own good. Im open for instance suggestions~

What do you all think of these new Community's?

https://lemmy.world/c/animationafter30

A place for reviews, rants, recommendation requests, and memes for the older (30-year-old and up) crowd, because it can be difficult to keep the passion for animation and comics going after you've aged out of the medium's key demographic.

Whether you're curious whether Netflix's newest adult animation series is any good, are seeking recommendations for romance manhwa with middle-aged protagonists, have a "Millennial humor" webcomic to recommend, want to discuss the latest developments in your favorite "salaryman" manga, or simply want to wax poetic (or mournfully cringe) about how your favorite animated movie as a kid holds up decades later, this is the place for you!

No hate or gatekeeping of younger fans and newer series intended, however interests and tastes inevitably change over time and it's helpful to know whether that anonymous online user emphatically urging you to check out their favorite series is 14 or 40. (Or maybe you are one of those younger fans and are looking for an older adult's suggestions for animated films you can watch on family movie night that your parents won't immediately veto.)

TLDR

  • From right now and until April 1st, discuss with your country's community on Lemmy about which song to send and share to the Fediverse.
  • On April 1st, voting will begin, where you will rank your favourite songs. Any song not submitted by this date will not be featured.
  • On April 8th, results of everyone's favourite songs will be published.
  • Join us at !lemmyvision@jlai.lu for any question, this will be the community for updates and results, make sure to subscribe if you'd like to stay in the loop.

Hey everyone!

I'm trying to launch Lemmyvision, a Eurovision-like Song Contest for Lemmy communities around the world ! I'd love for people across Lemmy to participate, I hope it will bring people together through our diverse taste of music, so join us if you'd like to discover new music and culture from around the world!

What is Lemmyvision?

  • Lemmyvision is inspired from Eureddision (itself a reenactment of the Eurovision song contest) which was held on r/europe some years ago, and based on the participation of national communities / instances and the delicate musical taste of their members (you!).
  • Every country is welcome to participate! The contest follows the rule of “national languages only”. The aim is to promote different languages and cultures from around the world, to share more between our online communities across Lemmy, and discover songs from lesser known artists. I hope to make it a regular event, so hopefully this works well for the first edition!

I'm going to try and share the word across Lemmy, don't hesitate if you want to crosspost to your country's community!

You can find more information on !lemmyvision@jlai.lu, don't hesitate if you have questions or suggestions, or would like to help!

See you soon! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

Hey there! You may recognize me as a mod over on !TenForward@lemmy.world, a Star Trek-themed meme and shitposty community. We love having our fun and hanging out but we're also not averse to some serious discussions or news as well! While it is always allowed in TenForward, we realize that there might be a better place for it.

Recently, a group of us had a chat. The mods of TenForward as well as @GuyFleegman, original creator of /r/Risa and /c/Risa, and @Tenthrow, mod extraordinaire and the owner of !StarTrek@lemmy.world. We all had different (and some same) reasons for wanting to start a fresh Trek community that was a bit more serious that what we currently had access to. So after some work (and this late posting by me), we have reopened !StarTrek@Lemmy.world!

As mentioned, we hope to make the place more inviting and welcoming for Star Trek based news as well as Trek themed discussions and debates. We also plan on posting regular discussion ideas as mods and highly encourage everyone to participate and to post your own questions too! Nothing gets a Trekkies warp core revving like a good bit of theory crafting.

Beam on over and check things out! Shields are currently down and no nebulae in range so don't worry about interference. Just pop on over and join in on the fun!
