You just pick something obvious and over elaborate on it. Big glasses, bright blue hat, etc also kids are mean, so pick a flaw, same idea.

It's exactly what Twitter did too. Start off all open and friendly, here is our simple API, have fun, and people did. Then one day Twitter decided the API was too open and started to restrict it, limit tokens and users, charge out the ass. (And that was all long before Muskrat took over.)

In fact that's true for a lot of tech companies.

One of the things that gives me hope for Lemmy is the speed at which it got great apps using that open API.

You know what's a funny one? Flag pins. Every politician in America, take a look, they will ALL be wearing a little American Flag pin, always.

I have to assume other politicians in other countries don't always wear a pin of their country.

is the appropriate adjective

I just found it interesting that the thing you were looking for, most Americans wouldn't have heard of. It makes me wonder why America has at least 3 milks.

If we ignore the 3.5% v 4% distinction and assume what we call Whole Milk, you just call Milk; what do you call Skim Milk? Or 2% Milk? And if you don't have them, why do we?

As for the money question, I was curious to see if other non-Americans felt the same. I agree that there is a subset of people who believe that. That subset may be quite large, but I'm not sure how it's perceived from an outsiders perspective. If you ask me, I don't think it's common, but I imagine some loud folks may make it appear that way. But I also acknowledge I'm an American in America, so maybe I don't notice it.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 21 points 15 hours ago (12 children)

it turns out, I wanted "4% milk"

As a lifelong American, I don't think we have 4% milk (reliably). Growing up we had Skim, 2% and Whole. Looking it up Whole is defined as 3.5%

I did look up a local store online and I was able to find it, but not universally at every store.

On the one hand I agree, but also just because it can be fixed over the air doesn't mean it's not a major problem.

Plus imagine if a car manufacturer put VERY shitty software into their cars. If a manufacturer has 100 recalls a year, I want to know why. If they have 1, I want to know why.

Just because they are more easily fixed, doesn't mean the recall isn't important.

That episode was far too short.

I have lots of positive things to say, but really I just want more.

Oh my God! I had no idea they developed a 30 min musical. It looks like there are recordings on YouTube so I'll have to give it a watch.

Yes, although BG2s starter dungeon is a whole act instead of a few rooms/battles.

But this mod is starting with the opening area, Waukeen's Promenade, where the game opens up, (similar to act 1 in BG3).

Also technically BG2 has the tutorial area with Xan that is similar to BG3 in the sense of being a quick few rooms and battles to teach the basics.

I can only assume they produced (and ran for several years) the entirety of Rogers the Musical and just played the one part in the show.

But seriously I have no idea.

Legally you're not allowed to skip the intro song. Please turn yourself in at the nearest Starbase.

The budget for most MCU films is ~$200 million, so most of these are a little bit less (ok $50 million less), but importantly this aligns with all the talk about the TV shows being treated like films.

I'm also curious how a film budget vs a TV budget breakdown.

I can only guess a shit ton of money was wasted unnecessarily. Like, if you have a $200 million dollar budget, you spend $200 million.

So the 2024 Players Handbook (PHB) is set to release in September. I've already bought and paid for the book. In fact I get early access in early September.

However a bunch of YouTube and other folks got the books much earlier and the embargo for them to talk about it lifted in early August.

So now I have to learn piecemeal how the new rules work. I have to hope whatever YouTube video I watch got the rules right. My only reference is random videos.

Luckily someone did write down a rough outline at https://rpgbot.net/2024-dnd-5e-transition-guide-and-change-log-everything-thats-different-in-the-new-players-handbook/

Anyone else find this to be bullshit? It's like Christmas morning for "influencers" but my gifts arrive in a month.

In short if folks know of a good copy of the 2024 PHB I'd love to read it.

20 minutes of trailers and 10 minutes of AMC puff pieces including the Nicole Kidman OMG Cinema commercials.

Earlier today I went to an AMC IMAX theater to watch Dune Part 2 (spoiler free review, a great film), and instead of the film starting at the scheduled time we have to duck around for 30 min before the film starts (which even then isn't true since we get two 30 second studio logos).

I'm so happy that most theaters I go to are smaller with usually only a preview or two.

But for AMC, fuck you.

Trailer: https://youtu.be/g0f1o-KGWPM

Premiere: Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 9pm Eastern, simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu.

The latest trailer shows scenes from Daredevil (the Netflix series), and Hawkeye (with some implied spoilers).

The series is rated TV-MA, which is the most "adult" rating of a Marvel series to date, but matches the Netflix Daredevil rating.

This is also the first series to premiere under the "Spotlight" brand.

Echo will be the first series under the Marvel Spotlight banner... Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.

Technically we're not get ANY MCU films in 2024. With all the talk of "superhero fatigue" I'm curious how this will play out.

Currently Deadpool 3 is the only MCU film scheduled for 2024. Deadpool 1 & 2 are not set in the MCU, we can assume Deadpool 3 will bring Deadpool into the MCU.

Outside of the MCU, Sony will bring us Madam Web, Kraven the Hunter & Venom 3.

Also, Sony will bring us the 3rd installment of the animated Spider-Man Spiderverse films.

For completeness sake, DC only has a Joker sequel scheduled.

I fully expect Deadpool 3 to be delayed (to late 2024).

I think no one will talk about Madam Web.

I think no one will talk about Kraven.

I fully expect Venom 3 to be delayed (to 2025).

I hope Spiderverse isn't delayed any further, but I suspect it will be.

Which is to say, we're getting a year off, how do folks think this will affect "superhero fatigue", or perhaps more importantly do you think it will give films time to actually be good films?

Babies are too loud (lemmy.world)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) by MimicJar@lemmy.world to c/voyagerapp@lemmy.world

Setting > General > Highlightenator

(Great name BTW.)

I'm not quite sure the solution but I found the babies to be too loud and distracting. I think if every account had a color and emoji it wouldn't be as distracting, but I also might hate that more.

It might just be the yellow of it all, if it were black and white that might make it better, but that's not how emoji works so I'm out of ideas.

I do think it's a neat feature, but I had to turn it off. Figured by posting here other folks might have ideas.
