Hi Lemmy,

I'd love to make a list/index of good websites for movie / TV reviews and recommendations with all of your help.

I will keep updating the post and add categories

Most of the things that I watch are US content or a derivative and I feel like I'm missing out. On more curated sites like rogerebert.com there are a is a lot of non-US content which I really like.

Are there more sites like Rogerebert? Is there something like an english Cahiers du Cinema? Is there a rotten tomatoes for Asian or European movies?

Maybe the mods can eventually make a nicer post and pin it.

I'll start us off with Cousin Ellis from No Country For Old Men:

"All the time you spend trying to get back what's been took from you, more is going out the back door."

12

It's a movie about friendship in the most cynical sense of the word. Simply brilliant.

13

So the dog. Opening scene. If it's just looking to infect everyone it possibly can, it doesn't make a lot of sense for it to turn around and stare at the pursuing helicopter.

Are there prevailing fan theories about the reason that the dog, presumably the surviving thing, stopped and looked back at the pursuing helicopter?

14

I don't do this often, but I HAVE to recommend this movie to everyone I can. A movie that absolutely blew me away. Strongly strongly recommend giving this a go.

Schindler’s List director says in speech marking 30th anniversary of the USC Shoah Foundation that he is alarmed that ‘we may … once again have to fight for the very right to be Jewish’.

In remarks reported by Deadline, Spielberg said: “Those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. I am increasingly alarmed that we may be condemned to repeat history – to once again have to fight for the very right to be Jewish.”

He added: “The echoes of history are unmistakable in our current climate. The rise of extremist views has created a dangerous environment, and radical intolerance leads a society to no longer celebrate differences but instead conspire to demonise those who are different to the point of creating ‘the Other’… This is happening alongside anti-Muslim, Arab, and Sikh discrimination. The creation of ‘the Other’ and the dehumanisation of any group based on their differences, is the foundation of fascism.”

Spielberg also directly addressed the current conflict in Gaza for the first time, saying: “We can rage against the heinous acts committed by the terrorists of October 7th and also decry the killing of innocent women and children in Gaza.”

Speaking with ComicBook.com, producer Jerry Bruckheimer stressed that the franchise was still on track to return but that they would now be bringing in a new cast to tell new stories, adding that he was unsure if Pirates or another legacy series, Top Gun, would return to screens first.

"It's hard to tell. You don't know, you really don't know. You don't know how they come together. You just don't know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can't tell you. But we're gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors."

I watched Mutant Mayhem over the weekend (which was great). I haven't watched the 1990 movie in years, but I was suddenly reminded how powerful this scene is for what is ostensibly a silly action movie for kids: the elongated shadow, the percussive score with ominous electric guitar accents, the camera tracking down from its starting position to sweep in behind him, the light gleaming from the blades on his helmet as he slowly turns to scan the room, and the ritualistic unrolling of the cape from his shoulders. All in a single, imposing 75-second take.

Great stuff.

This may be out there already, but it seems like I have seen multiple teaser trailers (including Trailer 1 for Gladiator 2) that seem to have terrible writing and terrible voice overs that sound like AI.
