Summary

Elon Musk called for the impeachment of federal judges after courts blocked his DOGE from laying off probationary (new) federal workers.

Judges ordered agencies to reinstate tens of thousands of employees, ruling the firings unlawful. Musk claimed judicial resistance undermines democracy.

Musk has attacked judges on social media, calling them “corrupt” and “evil,” raising concerns among federal judges about their safety.

Why isn’t he in jail yet?

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 hours ago

Because he's a billionaire. Rules for thee but not for me.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 18 points 8 hours ago

Musk = POS Nazi.

"Evil old woman, considered frightful or ugly". It's twelve down.

[–] freshcow@lemmy.world 208 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

How ironic that the guy who was never elected for anything is whining about democracy. And "corrupt"? Corrupt might as well be Elon's middle name.

[–] alkbch@lemmy.ml 6 points 9 hours ago

The irony is lost on him and anyone agreeing with him on this issue.

[–] upandup@sh.itjust.works 60 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (2 children)

Fortunately, there seems to be a growing resentment about that with the GOP electorate for this very issue. We’ll have to see if it’s enough to help tip the scales.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

My local magats are still behind him, they think it’s criminal that people are protesting at our local Tesla dealership. I think at least one of them—who’s extremely anti EV, is considering a fucking Tesla. And he’s a car guy who has had multiple luxury cars, and knows Tesla build quality is garbage.

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

Then, he's a moron and he deserves to be bilked out of his money. Fuck him.

[–] ploot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 46 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (2 children)

We’ll have to see if it’s enough to help tip the scales.

If Trump and Musk have their way, November 2024 was the last time they will be using scales.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 15 points 12 hours ago

What about a big, upright scale, with a heavy blade at the top? Ask the French about it.

[–] upandup@sh.itjust.works 26 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

It’s debatable whether scales were used even then. But I get what you’re saying.

[–] earphone843@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Trump straight up admitted that they rigged the election like 2 days ago.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

I've no doubt, since that bloviating idiot can't keep his mouth shut to save his life, but do you have a link?

[–] earphone843@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 hours ago
[–] wwb4itcgas@lemm.ee 140 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

Respect the judiciary or leave the country.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago

I didn't think I'd ever say this in earnest but I wish he would get deported back to where he came from.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Except SCOTUS. Fuck those (5) corrupt bastards

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 21 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

We’ve been asking him to for a while but he won’t listen and he keeps giving money to the people who should be making him leave

[–] dontpanic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 9 hours ago

Right? What is it that his ilk is always saying… if you don’t like it here, leave?

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 94 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Elon Musk is mad there's a process in place to protect workers from being fired without reason? Color me shocked.

[–] WasteWizard@lemmy.world 42 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

He was already pissed when they built the Tesla plant in Germany. Strong unions and worker rights and environmental protections. All the things he so heavily dislikes, the Muppet.

[–] AynRandLibertarian@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

I thought he was a huge fan of the german way of doing things...

Small note for the summary: "probationary" in terms of government employees does not necessarily mean new, it means new in that role.

So, someone who has been working for the government for 20 years and was just promoted to a senior position is a probationary employee.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 13 hours ago

Yeah this makes it just so much fucking dumber. That they would try to claim that it's due to poor performance, when they are literally firing people who just got promoted.

[–] MrEff@lemmy.world 10 points 15 hours ago

I have a bunch of coworkers who were contractors in a position for about a decade, then transitioned over to GS employees doing the same job. They were classified as probationary due to being "new" to their positions and were put on notice.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 51 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

That's not how that works.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 37 points 15 hours ago (1 children)
[–] usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml 18 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

However, impeachment of judges requires 2/3rd in the senate. That's the more important thing to note

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 25 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Fetterman just took over Manchin's position as Senate DINO. Schumer left his entire party high and dry at the last minute and out of nowhere to vote with Trump. That 2/3 vote may be a lot closer than you think.

[–] usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml 11 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (2 children)

2/3 is 67 senators. Republicans have 53 in the senate. You need 14 Fettermans

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 17 points 14 hours ago (6 children)

Given that we're seeing Democrats in both the House and Senate rolling over and playing dead, getting there may not be as difficult as one would expect. Last week, if you'd have said 10 democrats would join with Republicans to censure one of their own, or that Schumer would bail on his own party on a crucial vote at the last minute with no warning, people would have been skeptical. But here we are.

And remember, it's 2/3 of all members present. If a couple of these cowards just stay home, they make the GOP's efforts significantly easier. And I could easily see a few of these cowards sit it out.

What happened to the musk hate from the right? They're suddenly taking his word as gospel and sending death threats to Judges.

[–] upandup@sh.itjust.works 24 points 15 hours ago

He kissed Trump’s ring to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. Then he came out explicitly endorsing Trump. Plus, he’s a neo-Nazi shit bag.

That’s what happened

Stop listening to an African Nazi who has no power over the country.

For the strongest country in the world, Americas fucking weak.

Send Musk back to Africa. Fuck sakes America.

[–] RubixRube@lemmy.ca 14 points 14 hours ago

The power of the purse is in the hands of the democratically elected congress.

So to get on the same page as Elon, a government agency, formed through an executive order, being run by an unelected official, thinks that they have the power to to eliminate programs, jobs and funding from congressionally approved organizations. Got it.

[–] SleepNotRequired@lemmy.world 13 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

I think it's about time this stuff is called out for being thinly veiled attempts at intimidation.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 16 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The problem is that they're not trying to hide it. They openly say this is how it's going to work now.

Look at Columbia. They refused to cooperate. Then they got 400 million yanked out from under them. And then they fell right in line.

If we cannot get rid of Musk how does Musk think he is gonna get rid of the judges?
