The dude bankrupted a casino.

A casino.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 130 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not just once, but THREE times.

[–] IMALlama@lemmy.world 57 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At first I thought you meant one casino three times. It looks like it was three different casinos with one bankruptcy each. I am not sure which is worse...

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just remember. The house always wins. Unless you fuck up so hard you go bankrupt.

Guess he only had concepts of a business plan.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

*money launder so nakedly that if the government did the absolute bare minimum of casino regulation you would spend the rest of your life behind bars

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago (3 children)

house always wins except when the house is owned by Trump

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Now the house is the USA.

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Now, that house is the USA.

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Now the house is the USA.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

The dude let a Russian money laundering front go bankrupt once it was no longer viable.

[–] jumperalex@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So here's the thing, I am 99.99% with you on your sentiment.

But then I have to ask myself, "HOW TF is that even possible? Or was there more to it? Was that the plan ? Did he gain something bigger from doing it?"

I'm not saying he's some genius we just can't comprehend. I'm saying he's a criminal and I wouldn't put anything off the table.

But yeah, he's probably just that shitty at business; but still? I hate this timeline.

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

He probably just gave himself a high salary, got even more richer than later declare casinos bankrupt. bank loans, his investors, vendors, staff lose, and he wins. He moves on to the next target. now his target is USA.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

So I havent looked into this at all. Is it possible the bankruptcy was a way for him to steal his investors money and get away with it?

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yup, steal from loans and investors.

[–] podperson@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

Also remember that he failed to sell steaks and alcohol to Americans. 2 separate companies with one product each that we can't get enough of and they both went under.

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

He is not good at managing large organisations, he will use the US to enrich himself and later probably flee to russia.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 44 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And the market crash will begin right around that time too. Yay!

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago

Makes it easier for black rock et al to scoop up what's left of the housing market

[–] VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

I mean SCP500 trading is closed after a major drop sooooo.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Super glad we put Trump in office so he could make Mexico pay tariffs and bring down food prices. Feels so good to be owning the libs.

/fucking sarcasm

/SMDH

His worshippers are like people dying on a boat, lost at sea. "There! I see a ship!....no wait..."

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So how long until Canada just stops sending them oil?

[–] Tm12@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There’s contention between oil-providing Alberta vs Federal government at play. If it was up to AB and their provincial gov, they would become the 51st state.

Attempting to catch a whiff

[–] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

There’s a reason for this variant of jesusland

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Many of the cars MAGA buys are not made in the USA. They are going to go up 25%. Wait tell that sinks in.

[–] Krik@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

Some car parts travel across the US/CAN border six to seven times. The price increase will be much higher than 25%.

I wonder if it's true that the US car production will grind to a halt within a week as some analysts say. That would be huge!

[–] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

But Elon already brought the sink in

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago

Yeah .... can't take Turnip's or America's word for anything any more ... it's just a land of rage, anxiety, lies and stupidity .... from it's politicians and it's people

[–] Veedem@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I work for a company that has a lot of trade with both countries. Owners are already talking about the possibility of needing to raise prices to account for the tariffs. The plan appears to be to try to hold the line, but this well to do but family owned business can only hold that line for so long.

[–] yunxiaoli@sh.itjust.works 48 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Keep prices the same but add a blanket 25% fee on any bill/invoice with a name like "Trump government fee".

If large corpos can do it for legitimate taxes they themselves should pay, there's no reason companies can't do the same for these tariffs.

[–] sampao@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago

This is the way

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

make it 35%, 10% extra for the effort to add that one line and do the math.

[–] jumperalex@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Hell there are businesses already building a local stockpile of raw materials and part; been doing this for MONTHS. Other's not accepting long-term contracts that might bankrupt them if they are caught having to fulfill them post-tariff.

This all adds to the cost of doing business even if the tariffs never happen. Guess who pays since most everyone has to do it (read: there's no competition when all the players pay the vig!)

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wait until the Trumskers find out the giant trucks they adore are now beyond their financial grasp.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They always have been, you should see the lease terms on some of these pavement princesses

I know people who I know for a fact are barely making ends meet yet they always have toys like giant trucks. They have zero financial sense.

[–] JollyG@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I'm no economist, but this seems like a really bad idea.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] regrub@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Or just keep pushing it back another month because of how bad of an idea it is

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I look forward to the response to his upcoming visit to Alberta.

[–] Snowstorm@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

This Alberta visit… it gives me the same feeling i got before Zelensky’s recent visit to the white house. Too good of a showmanship moment not to stir drama. Anybody else sharing my concerns?

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

It'd be fucking hilarious if he did though.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

~~visit to~~ annexation of Alberta.

There is 0% chance he will allow the oil/gas to stop flowing. The visit is just like his meeting with Zelensky. It's to manufacture a reason for his aggression. Once the country is cut in half we're divided and lose access to goods from both coasts. The eastern portion would be restricted to cheap goods from Asia except through him. Economically we'd take a huge hit, and it would be easy for him to mop up the remainders.

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

He's coming to Alberta for a G7 meeting (possibly). And I wouldn't be so pessimistic about the future - Canada is pretty unified in maintaining our sovereignty.

He face reminds me of fried chicken. I'm vegan now. So it's like the fried chicken my kids leave on the counter to dry rot naturally.
