A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

Remember the overriding ethos on Beehaw: Be(e) Nice. Each user you encounter here is a person, and should be treated with kindness (even if they’re wrong, or use a Linux distro you don’t like). Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

He is going to say Ukraine did it and use this as an excuse to shut off starlink for Ukraine.

It's back up and working fine:

He probably just didn't pay a bill and thinks that's an attack

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 day ago

That would be so incredible funny :D

Imagine not paying for your datacenter and the hoster putting something personal (rightfully so in this case) on your homepage.

Nah, he wanted to move a server on his own, again.

No time to unplug the cables, I have an axe

the government will pay the bill for him

Or doesn't know what a VPN is.

[–] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 34 points 1 day ago

somehow I doubt this was a cyber attack and his teams ineptitude is just using them as scapegoats

Historically Tesla's security is as bad as DOGE's. They got hacked a while back because they had an unsecured kubernetes control plane exposed to the internet. Apparently being owned by a [edit: seagull managing] drug addict isn't good for opsec.

EDIT: I incorrectly used a medical term to describe Elon's management style. Sorry everyone.

[–] TheRtRevKaiser@beehaw.org 9 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Hey @anachronist@midwest.social, I realize you're not trying to be hurtful to anyone in this comment (except maybe Musk, but honestly fuck that guy) but including a common condition that many folks live with in a list of things that make Musk a bad manager likely is hurtful to those people, even if that's not your intention. If Elon does have ADHD, that's clearly not the problem since I suspect we all know tons of people with ADHD who are a) great at their jobs and b) not trying to dismantle the United States. In the future, please try to "Be(e) Nice".

[–] Emmie@lemm.ee 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Hey hey hey do not associate adhd peeps with that thug, that’s offensive

[–] ranandtoldthat@beehaw.org 5 points 19 hours ago

Yeah for sure. And regardless, I know some great security engineers who are ADHD.

Move fast and break things tends to create broken systems.

Don't worry, I'm sure CISA can help!

Oh, they did what to CISA?

Oh no...

I honestly would love it so much if Anonymous saved the world from this shit. That's like teen dystopian drama level.

[–] Emmie@lemm.ee 8 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

Well anyone can be anonymous it’s about the idea not some kind of elite hermetic group, it’s all of us and only we (the people) can save ourselves from the authoritarians

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Emmie@lemm.ee 3 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

So what I meant is that no one else will do this for you, you are anonymous. We must act in ways we are able

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 5 points 21 hours ago

Yes. I know. 😶

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 39 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hey, Anonymous: You should make the url redirect to Mastodon.

[–] elfpie@beehaw.org 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (3 children)

Let me spin that for you so you see the problem.

Mastodon, the social network backed by terrorists. By signing up, you put your name on a FBI watchlist as well.

edit: I didn't make it clear that this would be the spin that would be possible to use against mastodon. It's not true, but it doesn't have to be to cause harm.

[–] Patch@feddit.uk 3 points 18 hours ago

Fair point.

Redirect it to Blue Sky instead.

[–] Goun@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] elfpie@beehaw.org 1 points 21 hours ago

My oopsie. Clarification above.

[–] fracture@beehaw.org 0 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

........ can a brother get a source on this??

[–] elfpie@beehaw.org 3 points 21 hours ago

It wasn't true. I wasn't even trying to deceive anyone, but the problem is that people will mostly believe without asking for sources if they don't care. I put an edit above now.

[–] Alice@beehaw.org 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm dumb; can they do that? I thought DoS attacks could be done without hacking, but a url redirect would require hacking, right?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If they can change the page to a message, then they probably have the access needed to redirect the URL.

[–] Alice@beehaw.org 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Oh nvm, I wasn't aware they'd done that. The article only talks about the outage.

ETA did anyone see this message, or have a screenshot of it? I can't find a single article about it. I don't mean the screenshot of the Operation Dreadnought website that's attached to this post.

"In the Ukraine area"... Smells like code for "Russia" that Trump is going to use as additional rationale for abandoning Ukraine.

[–] millie@beehaw.org 3 points 21 hours ago

Heyyy, it's chanology style anonymous. Nice.

[–] memfree@beehaw.org 17 points 1 day ago
[–] IndianaJones@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Hope these people covered their tracks, dont want the Trump's people going after you

[–] Vaggumon@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh no gee villagers, that just the worst by golly gosh.

[–] junkthief@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago

Not sure if this is a case of Bone Apple Tea or not, but the phrase is “Gee Willikers”
