A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

That's 100% Korean though. They could be in the streets throwing molotovs and that's what they'd tell a foreigner.

Nice, recruit that nerd to NCD

Hey, could you toss me some context for the link before I click? Thanks.

You asked for a contribution. It's the best of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Look for meaning in it and have a beautiful day

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Got it, preciate the reply. Same back to you.

Yup. My SO has friends in S. Korea, and they were more annoyed at the emergency broadcast than anything, but kept on gaming. Ain't nobody got time to care about a coup attempt...

see, first person in korean timezone woke up. now they're gonna think it was all gigantic prank everyone around them is playing into

[–] unknown1234_5@kbin.earth 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

nah I'm American, I just hadn't heard of it yet

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

fire up reuters or ap, it's first page news

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works -2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Or don't, it's not very interesting news.

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

worst coup in half a year is not interesting news? heresy

Yup, even my Korean friends didn't care enough to watch the broadcast live. They just turned off the TV and went back to gaming.

It was such a bad coup that the only casualty was a fire extinguisher. For a country with such spicy food, it's coups are incredibly bland.

You're better than this Korea, at least mobilize a couple tanks next time!

You're hurting Yoon's feelings, don't you know we're his only Yoons? He needs our love, not more shame. He knows what his wife made him do.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Then he should share with the rest of the class. As penance, I'll accept an album of embarrassing sex pictures. Probably also not very interesting, but I'll give him a shot at redemption.

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

That's quite fair.

I was messaging a friend living north of Seoul with questions about it when I realized, it's 12:00 a.m. there and he is farging sleeping. This must be close to a nothingburger.

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

i thought you're in similar timezone

also, how far north of Seoul

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

I am in flyover country in America, friend's timezone was 12 am at the time of my realization that the coup had flopped. He lives roughly 2 hours north of Seoul. I don't think he's a Nork hacker, he will happily repeat, "Kim Jong Un is an idiot".

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 50 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah but more like chicken coup

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 40 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

From now on when I try to do something stupid and fail spectacularly, I'll think "At least I'm not President Yoon."

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

"At least I'm not a Yoon." -fixed it, sorry. Can't stop myself, I love neologisms.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Too bad that situations where someone fails miserably but that's a good thing because what he was trying to do is terrible don't come up often enough for this phrase to catch on.

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh, doesn't it though? I can think of a few off the cuff ..Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, what a Yoon.

I legit want to hear what is was like waking up after sleeping through a decade's worth of history happening.

[–] Filthmontane@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

There are decades when nothing happens and there are weeks when decades happen.

[–] pkill@programming.dev 5 points 3 weeks ago

don't forget the thousands of brave protesters. if it wasn't for them, those MPs would probably have been blocked effectively

[–] JoShmoe@ani.social 5 points 3 weeks ago

Wait, there’s bad guys?

According to my SO, martial law was a success! Nearly everyone stayed indoors, either sleeping or gaming, and didn't leave until martial law was rescinded in the morning. Yoon got to push the martial law button, and nobody ended up getting killed.

So success all around! Let's celebrate over another round of LOL.
