Good... We'll need them for the resistance

[–] General_Effort@lemmy.world 16 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Ahh, yes. Purging the armed forces. Nothing sinister about that. Just restoring the professional military service.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 1 points 13 minutes ago

I mean outside of America we are still going to all let this happen. We are all marching straight into WW3 like the "this is fine" meme.

Should we survive as a species I look forward to 50 years from now where America adopts strong anti-facism laws like Germany has.

Question is, who is the good guy in this new world we are entering?

FWIW as a Canadian we are so fucked. America is going to come knocking for our resources soon and we won't be able to say no.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 0 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I mean I support reducing the army. Can we kick out all cis men next?

[–] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 1 points 5 minutes ago

Only if the base assumption is that they're all gay, and they only get kicked out if they tell us they're straight, otherwise we aren't asking.

[–] steventhedev@lemmy.world 25 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

My immediate thought is that Klinger will be happy.

Trump's legacy will be long term damage to national security, rampant racism and discrimination, and widespread corruption.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

I was once near to (but did not interact with) Jamie Farr maybe 10 years ago. It's really hard to see him and not picture him in a dress.

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 13 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

It would be a good move for Biden to offer them honorable discharges now... it'll be better than what they'll get if they wait.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 hour ago

He won't because he doesn't care.

Indeed, I'm surprised he doesn't do it first to show the "moderate republicans" that he's on their side.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 4 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

That's a lot of hard to replace talent. I don't think anyone I'm the military will let him go through with this. How anyone can support this mong is beyond me.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 56 minutes ago

He's already working on purging military leadership so only Trump loyalists are left. If he orders a purge of trans people it will happen. Everyone saying "he can't really do this" is still in living in hopeful dreams. Reality is that Trump will be in charge and surrounded by fanatical loyalists running all branches of government and the military. The dangers for his chosen scapegoats are real.

[–] valek879@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 hours ago

Not something anyone can stop if he chooses to go through with it. He is the commander of the armed forces. He can make sweeping policies like this that fuck up everything.

[–] rxbudian@lemmy.ca 40 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

They can form their own Blackwater and charge gazilion dollars to operate in the same places as they were before

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 22 points 8 hours ago

You joke but that's why they want to fuck up the military. PMCs lobby too and they're willing to do everything in a war from flying the planes to being grunts on the line.

[–] lychee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 74 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

The ideological score here must be worth more to Trump than the strength of America's military, already hurting for new recruits, which says a lot and frankly scares the fuck out of me

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 3 points 32 minutes ago

Well, the problem is you're thinking logically. It's an ideological victory on both ends for him.

Conservatives view this as strengthening the military, not weakening it.

The actual strength of America's Military doesn't matter because they don't have hostile nations on their borders. So when America's Military loses some of their force projection ability it can be used to say we're turning towards isolationist policy, which is also a win for him. (From the Putin angle and from the Conservative one)

And, again, if you point out that this move will weaken the American Military, well what are you? A terrorist who doesn't believe they have the greatest, manliest fighting force ever seen?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 84 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

Weakening the USA's defenses seems to be a consistent theme with Trump.

[–] lychee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 15 hours ago

I think this signals the beginning of a very tough era for trans people more than it does anything about national security. But we shall see

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 12 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Elon will supply robot troops for the clone war.

[–] sneaky@r.nf 8 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Might supply them for the other side.

Merchant of death

[–] QuincyPeck@lemmy.world 219 points 21 hours ago (7 children)

Just going to completely wreck US cybersecurity defense.

[–] doggle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Next they'll go after the furries and take all the navy's data centers offline

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 80 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

It has long been said that if all the furries and catgirls disappeared it would cause the internet to collapse overnight.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 20 points 16 hours ago

Would love to see him personally try to kick even one of them out of anything. Pathetic piece of shit.

[–] nicomachus@programming.dev 41 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

You think with the recruiting problems we have you'd do your best to retain the people we have.

If you can get through basic and fulfill your tasks you should be able to be in the military. If the government doesn't want to pay for "gender affirming care" that's fine. But these people should still be allowed in the military.

Also, what kind of discharge are these people getting? Honorable, General, Dishonorable?

Then place them in internment camps. We know where this is going you damn Nazi.

[–] Skydancer@pawb.social 2 points 1 hour ago

I assume that's the plan with RFK's "wellness camps". Define gender dysphoria as a qualifying mental illness, and send transgender folks there to replace migrant workers who have been deported.

[–] auzy@lemmy.world 51 points 20 hours ago

He's already completed the first step, by making them seem inhuman and criminal

Which is ironic, because he's the one who boasted about perving on kids

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 50 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Here we go folks, welcome to the hellscape that is the new America

[–] Modern_medicine_isnt@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago

Honestly, it was a hellscape before, we just shifted down a level deeper.
