Summary

Tim Alberta of The Atlantic reports low morale and mounting frustration within Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, with some staff expressing “resentment” and even “disgust” toward the candidate.

Once optimistic about Trump’s chances, aides are now worried as the campaign appears to be unraveling in its final stretch. Alberta shared that senior staffers feel exhausted by Trump’s increasingly erratic behavior, with one high-ranking insider admitting they partly hope for his defeat.

Never let them distance themselves from him. Let maga be a tattoo on their forehead for the rest of their life. Like Nazi tattoos.

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 69 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can forgive people for changing their minds once they've learned and experienced more. However, at this point, I don't think that there is actually any excuse for not learning or experiencing enough to not know who or what they're supporting. MAGA should be carved into their foreheads à la Inglourious Basterds. Make them advertise forever that they were dumb enough and hateful enough to fall for helping the most obvious con man imaginable to become a fascist dictator. At least the oligarchs have legitimate reasons to believe that they could benefit from him having power through cutting regulations and taxes for them. What the fuck do the millions of peasants in shacks in flyover states have excusing their donations and votes?

Yep, and that includes all these chucklefucks cozying up to Dems (even though Dem leadership seems thrilled to get more conservatives in the party) now that the ship is sinking. Every one of these "I'm a former Trump voter who is voting for Kamala" commercials gets that same reaction from me - where were you when he still had a grip on the party? Was all his bullshit too much for you then? Were you writing letters to your representatives then to ask them to stop inviting all the crazies in and stop moving towards facism and white supremacy?

If not, then I hope you help Kamala get in, but I give no shits after that. You were happy to let all the "right" people be hurt by Trump's policies all the way up to now. You were happy to lie in that bed until it was clear the ship was sinking, and all you really seem to be doing now is bringing echoes of the same shit to Democrats as Kamala and the rest welcome you to pull the party even further right in the name of votes.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The man might be president elect tomorrow. Don't get ahead of yourself with this kind of "sinking ship" talk. It might be true but it doesn't help anyone to talk about until the election is behind us.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Zero people are going to change how they vote today based on anything I type here right now. His ship is sinking whether his basket of deplorables still has enough bread in it to pull off an unlikely win today or not, and that's why (some of) the rats are deserting the ship. The man can't put two sentences together, and was frankly every bit as bad as this (and worse than Biden) when Biden dropped out.

The scary part isn't what will or won't happen to Trump. The scary part about Trump driving out all the not-entirely-batshit Republicans is that now Democrats are becoming even more conservative as they pander to them.

Everyone dogpiled the guy who posted the ratchet meme a day or two ago, but he was spot on. Trump destroying R had the net effect of pulling D to the right, and pushing progressive goals even further away for all of us. I will openly wear my disdain for what these shitstains have done to the country and to our near-future until old age takes me.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As you should. Trump and his supporters are the worst thing to happen to America in my lifetime at minimum. Still, your original post seemed to be getting awfully close to discounting the possibility that they might win and that's not assured. If that's not what you were getting at then by all means, carry on.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

All good, I get your point. They might win. I don't think they will, but they might. If they do, I'm not going to waste a second about having publicly presumed they would not though. There will be bigger fish to fry. 🙂

Brands...it will hurt more...

[–] Subnet64@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Inglorious Baterds carved tatoo

[–] TheFriar@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Something interesting I never considered: would branding, that is over in a second or two, really hurt more than a 2-4 hour tattoo?

Side note, has anyone seen that horrific video of the college kids branding each other and the one held the iron on someone’s chest for like 10 seconds and pushed down and you could actually see it sinking into the persons body?

It’s fucking vile and I had finally forgotten about it but now I just remembered and I fuckin hate it

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Naw i never even saw the full vid of that. Only saw the firs couple seconds but that shit is haunting.

To the first question tho. Compressing pain in a temporal sense doesnt really work i think. Some people experience migraines for their whole lives so those people would by that logic be some of the most pain resistant people on earth.

But also a branding would hurt for weeks/months until its healed and might get infected and shit. Human skin isnt like cow skin, that shit will instantly get destroyed permanently.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm a fire/sideshow performer, have been burned (and unintentionally branded) many times. Also have many body mods.

If it's done right, the metal only touches the skin for about a second. The burn will hurt for a few hours, but will heal in 2-3 weeks. However, it's very easy to overdo it and turn it into a deeper burn that will hurt for far longer and take significantly longer to heal. Around Nazis, I don't particularly care to be precise.

Tattoos hurt in the moment but once they're done, they're done. I'd honestly rather get a tattoo of equal size than branded.

Edit: and yeah that video, that was nasty. He probably died from it.

[–] Whirlygirl9@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 1 day ago

I've been burned, (i had a few layers of skin melted off my fingers because of steam) and I've got multiple tattoos... you don't see people going for multiple burns too often. burns don't stop hurting after the actual burn... it just keeps going. tattoos feel a bit like a sunburn and then itch. the burn sucked far more.

[–] MrBobDobalina@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 day ago

Saw that video and never found any info on if he recovered. My first reaction was holy shit that's going to hurt and be messy, but some comments were saying about the heat of the iron (it's not supposed to still be glowing bright red, it was WAY too hot), length of time, pressure, and proximity to vital organs means that he likely wouldn't survive it...

Where is Lt. Aldo Raine when we need him?

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago

The only quality of gangrene that matters to me is that it's growing.

A nazi is a behavior, not a person.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 110 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As long as they still plan on voting for him, this is performative bullshit.

[–] sudo42@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago

As long as they continue to help him overthrow democracy, it’s performative bullshit.

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 77 points 1 day ago (2 children)

“Hard to overstate how terrible morale is inside of this campaign — and how much anger/resentment is felt toward the candidate.”

Aha. And you still ended up helping him. Shut up.

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

"just following orders" all over again.

There's only one thing trump has yet to steal from Hitler, and it's killing the leader of the fascist movement.

Here's to hoping 🍻

[–] GetOffMyLan@programming.dev 10 points 1 day ago

Yeah there's no way they've just realised what a piece of shit he is.

Pretty much on day one of his initial run he was caught on mic talking about sexually assaulting young women.

GOP: picks the most disgusting candidate possible

GOP when they get an abhorrently disgusting candidate:

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Jeez I sorta feel bad for these people who are helping him lie, cheat, and steal his way into one of the biggest seats of power in the world.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

I don't. They can all rot.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Rats leaving the sinking ship. Just like there were no Nazis in Germany after 1945.

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

The original piece Alberta wrote for the Atlantic is actually amazing. There are a lot, "Trump aides secretly say [blank]," articles that seem like hopium, but this is incredibly detailed and well sourced.

I still can't believe Trump cultists wore diapers to his rallies and carried "Real men wear diapers!" signs after it came out that Trump is incontinent. Trump 2024 is truly the weirdest and most unhinged political campaign in US history. You can buy the fucking merch because these people are deranged and this is how they spend their money: https://www.ebay.com/itm/305576950729

After the 'garbage' comment last week, magats were talking about wearing garbage bags for Halloween costumes.

Somehow dressing in a garbage bag is a step /towards/ sanity.

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

The only thing that makes sense happening in his rallies, is everyone laughing, people dying from laughter.

This should already have happened after his first speech.

How can someone hear 2 hours of his bullshit and seriously come to the conclusion:

Yeah, ok - sounds good, he has my vote.

[–] wiLD0@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

They’re clearly not loyal enough to serve him.

They’re not the best people for the job and he only works with the best.

Found the troll

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Well that much is obvious, if I understood the situation correctly, he basically brute forced his way into being the primary candidate. They tried to run a different person and he more or less said "fuck you I'll just run anyway" and threatened to run independent/third party which would have split the republican vote and would have meant a loss for the republican party.
