Harvest Moon lost its luster for me when they turned into a cringy dating simulator instead of a farming/country living simulator. Stardew valley is my jam now.

I feel that new harvest moon gameplay become less contents.
I think the using 3d graphic and fancy game engine, so they can say they did a lot of work in the game.
But I feel that the game has far less content, people, stuff to do than older game.
Most recent game I play is rune factory 5, and it have drop FPS bug on Nintendo switch
I get the same feeling, and have heard similar things from others. Hopefully once they have the engine down, they can start to expand the new 3D ones with more content.
They haven't been the same since the split. Honestly stardew valley and My time in porta really fill that void for me now.
Anyone played a story of seasons? Are they any good?
My Time in Portia is really good, also liked the setting of restoring a post-apocalyptic world. I played it on Switch, and eventually got tired of extremely long load times to dropped it midway. May give it another go on PS, I think they have it on PS+.
Story of Seasons are the original Harvest Moon, I have heard they are better than Harvest Moon games, but I haven't played one recently.
Recent Story of Seasons titles have been pretty good. They've put out a few remakes of older titles, Friends of Mineral town and the one a few weeks ago A Wonderful Life. And they also have some new titles, Pioneers of Olive Town.
If you have to recommend only one of the recent Story of Seasons game to anyone, which one will you recommend?
I haven't cracked my copy of A Wonderful Life yet, so I can't comment there. But if you want something closer to the classic games, Friends of Mineral Town is your game. If you want a more modern game, Pioneers of Olive Town is your game. I enjoyed Pioneers more, something to be said for newer game features and a fresh story.
Thanks for the reply. I will add Pioneers of Olive Town to my "to-check" list.
The horses are so bad.
Yeah, the horses need some work.
I wish they'd take more aesthetic inspiration from the earlier games. Namely a bit more chibi. This seems....fine, but kind of generic, kind of mobile game-esque.
I remember playing this game back on PSP in its time. Was such great game for just chilling.
Am I the only one who liked the 2d graphics? I don’t know, this is just too flashy for me and looks kinda cheesy.
I agree. Except for the cows, they look so adorable in 3D!
Personally, I don't have any issue with 3D graphics in general, but these look like cheap mobile graphics to me, for some reason.
I also don’t mind 3d in general, but some games make it work better than others. But idk, something about Harvest Moon makes me want a 2d graphics game (I know there are other alternatives).
Have you tried My Time in Portia? If you like it, maybe it's Harvest Moon's implementation that's the issue, and if you don't like it, then you probably just want to play this genre in 2D.
Last Harvest Moon game I played was Magical Melody. It had pretty much everything I wanted out of a farm sim game. I did play Rune Factory 4 on Switch and that was pretty cool, but I feel like I can't get much out of the genre, they all kinda feel samey and there are just so many to choose from these days.
Yeah, the genre is going through a renaissance, and now it feels like there are too many of these. The silver lining is that now there are so many options, so you can choose whichever you like most and ignore the rest.
