that's because it probably wasn't drawn by a fifth grader and this is another made up "my son did X in fifth grade" story
I get where you're coming from and I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, but I used to work with kids in after-school programs doing homework help and a handful of those kids were really surprisingly talented. I saw some really cool art from some of them, so I could see this being real.

My only issue with this is that it's been posted in the Lemmy Shitpost community, and it's not shit at all.

You would have told me it is more funny to draw it this way, I would have accepted the answer. But a 10yo child should know what a snail looks like. If not, then that's just sad.
It appears you have wild expectations for a 10 year old's understanding of animal physiology.
You can interpret their tentacles shrank after watching the counter going down as a first getting away reactionbor a panic reaction.
