Your taxes already go to various public programs, like infrastructure (roads and highways), Israel, public education, police, public services, paying off national debt, Israel again, social security, Medicare, veteran benefits, the salaries of public officials, Israel... Oh yeah, and food programs.

Dude. I'm set to retire before I'm 50, and I'm 43, also a veteran. I'm retiring in San Diego, the most unliveable city in the US. Paying taxes is the second most patriotic thing that a citizen can do. The fact that you view them as theft is a you problem. They are the dues that you owe society for treating you so well.
The four most patriotic things one can do are as follows in this order:

Pay your damn taxes.

Serve in local office, and maybe higher.

Serve in the military.
The reason that the military is so low is that most people aren't a good fit for the military. We need thinking soldiers that will refuse an unlawful order, not mindless automatons that parrot every hateful lie they can.
If I cared what you or anyone else thought was patriotic I'd buy a rope to hang myself with.
That's specifically what we did to a good amount of Loyalist conservatives when we founded the country.
Taxes exist to provide common goods, I think preventing mass food insecurity is a common good lol. Healthier population of your country is good for everyone in it, not just the people getting the food.

Taking care of our less fortunate is one of the best uses of taxes there is, would you rather them go toward bailing out more corporations or more tax cuts for the rich?
Seeing as they go "I'm already taxed enough" their answer is probably "Yes tax breaks for the wealthy and companies makes me happier. For some reason."
