Taylor Swift. She’s cute I guess but her music is the audio equivalent of a lukewarm stale glass of milk.

[–] agressivelyPassive@feddit.de 16 points 5 months ago

Isn't that true for almost all of pop music? It's intended to be aggressively meh.

[–] makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 months ago

Comment of the day award

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 months ago

My coworkers love her because "She's a storyteller!"

I can think of many bands that do the same thing without making aggressively mid music while doing so.

Watching sports/sports fandom. I just dont give a fuck about sportsball in any way shape or form.

[–] SuperSaiyanSwag@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 months ago

On a similar note, video game streams

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 45 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Watching sports of any kind.

I get made fun of for playing video games and shit meanwhile millions of people lose their shit over grown ass men chasing a ball.

I'd be less insulting about it if I wasn't ridiculed every time I bring up not liking sports.

[–] Azal@pawb.social 5 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I remember an old reddit post about what it's like to not like football by replacing it with archeology. I felt that in my soul.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Honestly that's why I hate sports. It started out as just disliking it but after working food service my whole life I've grown to hate sports due to how much it affects my job.

Going to bars. I can't drink with my medications and I don't like going to loud, social places unless there's some other reason to be there.

Instagram. I have no interest in taking pictures or sharing things regularly. All the content looks so boring I don't get the appeal. Even on an interesting post the comments are borderline spam fire emojis and people saying let's go.

[–] bestusername@aussie.zone 10 points 5 months ago

It's used to be just a way to share photos with family and friends, those days are long gone, it's just ads and fuckwits.

[–] AVincentInSpace@pawb.social 21 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Any social media platform where you follow people instead of topics.

I have to just sort of flail about in the void looking for people in my same niche to follow, and by the exact same token, no one will ever look at anything I post unless one of the Popular Accountsβ„’ re-shares it. What's worse, a re-share from a person with a lot of followers has more value than a re-share from an average Joe. That never sat right with me -- the idea that one person's opinions on what was and wasn't good were more valuable than everyone else's, and that everyone therefore competed for that person's attention.

Watching tiktok. I do not get the addiction it provide, but people around me, young and old, has been glued to it.

Live tv. I just can't watch with all the stupid pop culture commercials.

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Live TV is great. I have a live feed of a stork nest in the background, and you get to see it feed its chicks, teach them to fly, and murder a few depending on mood.

Going to loud parties with more than 5 people. 1) loud things hurt my ears and give me a headache. 2) can't hear the person you're talking to anyways bc of loud. 3) why are there 50 people here? Past 5 ppl, you can't really talk to people well and the space gets crowded.

Great for you if that's your thing but not me.

Driving. If it's far enough away, I can ask for a ride. If it's any closer, I can walk. Most things I can walk to. I don't trust myself behind the wheel and don't feel comfortable contributing to the damage done by vehicles.

[–] Jolteon@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 months ago

I don't think driving's really an activity that people get into, except in a small percentage of enthusiasts. Most people just drive because it's less inconvenient than the alternatives.

Watching TV series's. As a maker, I really just went to be making stuff all the time, and having to sit and dedicate my time to watching a show really does not interest me. I do like watching longform Nebula content while I'm doing other things though, like Philosophy Tube or Jet Lag: The Game. I also like reading books, just not tv or movies most of the time

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Same for me and gaming. Thing is, I love games and always will, but I just don't have time in my day for it. Solution? Wait a year, read reviews of 1 or 2 best games of the year and then binge them 3 days straight without sleep and trainers (to level past the grindy aspects) until I'm sick of them.

Same with binge TV for me. Its just easier on my schedule if I can dedicate a one off time to it. It keeps me up to date with social trends, whilst not being a dominating factor in my life.

There's still time...

[–] CorrodedCranium@leminal.space 9 points 5 months ago (4 children)

A lot of social media sites. Twitter, 4Chan, Tumblr, TikTok, Facebook, Discord, and so on.

There are various reasons for each but it frequently comes down to how much of it is people mindlessly reposting soulless clickbait and how hard it can be to find and track content relative to me.

Also idolizing and following celebrities. I mean I like Jake Gyllenhaal but I would be indifferent if they disappeared off the face of the Earth tomorrow.

Drinking

Why would anyone want to drink something that tastes awful, so they can have a night of fun they probably won't remember, and wake up feeling awful?

If I'm gonna have a fun night, I want to remember it, not hear about it from others. And the risks are too great. Risk of doing something stupid I would never normally consider that could embarrass, injure, or kill myself or others.

If that's your idea of fun, more power to you, but I'll pass.

[–] nnjethro@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

That's how Alcoholism or movies works, not a night out with some social drinks. I rarely drink but I've never not remembered stuff. I'm introverted, so a few drinks does actually help me losen up a little and have a better time. But it's not healthy, so it's rare that I do.

[–] boogetyboo@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago

I think a lot of sweet things taste awful. But that doesn't mean I watch people drinking Coke and can't understand why they like it.

That's because taste is subjective. I only drink things I like. Do you really think people, other than teenagers experimenting, are drinking things they don't like?

And getting black out drunk, again young people aside, is not the aim.

I think you might be a bit sheltered. Not liking alcohol or drinking is fine and normal and should be encouraged for health reasons, but you've made some big assumptions about people.

[–] Azal@pawb.social 4 points 5 months ago

Personally, I enjoy the drinks I'm drinking. And no, I'm not saying where it tastes like candy but I drink in the manner of responding "I don't understand the question." when I'm asked "What would you like with your gin?"

Part of what I drink helps because slamming it hurts, but I like that slight burn when sipping (Why yes I like spicy food too but I digress), that burn is a nice speed limiter so it takes a while to even get a buzz. There at the slight the term "social lubricant" shines. I'm not deep in my head, all the worries, anxieties, etc I can actually set aside and enjoy my time rather than going through the list of shit I need to get done a thirtieth time.

If you don't like it, it's perfectly fine, getting drunk is not something necessary to live life.

destruction/"rage" rooms

they're an awesome concept and I can see why they're enjoyable and therapeutic even for many people, but I just don't like breaking stuff it makes me anxious haha

[–] boogetyboo@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago

Same. I like fixing broken things. Also, if a handle breaks off a mug it becomes a pen holder etc. We're drowning in our own rubbish so I don't understand making more being fun?

Like seeing food fights in movies (which I think is the only place this ever happens), it just looks like wasteful stupidity to me.

Alcohol, I just dont like the taste

I smoke weed occasionally but even that I have been trying to cut out cus I abused it for years

[–] lightnegative@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

It's an acquired taste. Back when I was a starving student and everyone was drinking cheap alcohol and living off 2-minute noodles, I acquired the taste
