RIP brother

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 77 points 8 months ago (1 children)

This is the worst part of an 80's childhood. All the larger than life characters from the silver screen start getting old and dying on you.

R.I.P. you glorious bastard.

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 13 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Huh? This is not unique to the 80s

Depends on your generation.

Lots of 70s folks died and I shrugged.

But as I'm a 80s kid, I hits hard.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The 80s were special for cinema so it kind of is unique

[–] pwnicholson@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Every decade after the 1920s has been special for cinema for the generation that treasured it.

Action movies weren't the same before or after the 80s though, it was their greatest decade

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Very much still cherry picking here.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 13 points 8 months ago

Well, it's an action movie actor we're talking about

[–] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 57 points 8 months ago (4 children)

RIP Carl. His Arrested Development skit will always be funny af.

[–] Betch@lemmy.world 37 points 8 months ago

I hope he's got a stew going in heaven.

[–] Ashyr@sh.itjust.works 30 points 8 months ago

Actor Carl Weathers?!

[–] Zozano@lemy.lol 15 points 8 months ago

76 is too young. There was still plenty of meat left on his bones.

[–] AlgonquinHawk@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Ooooo I didn't realize he had one. Will have to watch :)

[–] Schmuppes@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

That's always a good idea.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 37 points 8 months ago

Raider legend Carl Weathers. R.i.p. my guy. Imma get a stew goin tonight in your honor.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 30 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Finally gone to hang out with Lincoln and that alligator.

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago

Hey, you mambo?

[–] nobleshift@lemmy.world 30 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I absolutely love his portrayal of Greef Karga. Really liked him and his character. I think he should have been included in the SWCU a long long LONG time ago. He will be missed. Rest in peace Carl, thank you for your body of work.

I'm trying to think about how they proceed (or not) with his character in the Mando series…

[–] nobleshift@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

From what I can find filming is supposed to start this month. I was really hoping we would get just one more bit, but I don't think that's going to happen.

[–] AlgonquinHawk@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago

At least his story kind of came to a conclusion… Enough for me to be satisfied with how it ended.

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

Imagine working in that casting department. Think about the bar tabs they must have.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 29 points 8 months ago

Pour out some stew for our brother.

[–] TheSlad@sh.itjust.works 28 points 8 months ago

He was great as Carl Weathers in Arrested Development. That role fit him so well

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 22 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Damn, that's a bummer. I had no idea he was 76, dude could've been 50something.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 17 points 8 months ago (1 children)

He was 40 when he was in Predator!? Damn, as someone just on the wrong side of 40, that is a blow to the ol' body image.

[–] cybersandwich@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

It could have been roids. They were all taking them.

[–] tastysnacks@programming.dev 3 points 8 months ago

I hated that guy in college. He ran all over us.

[–] SeedyOne@lemm.ee 13 points 8 months ago

RIP legend. He always acted his ass off, every role.

[–] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

i fucking found this out while i was eating burger king i picked up on the way home. i feel this is appropriate.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

As I read the headline, a gambling ad with him in it popped up on my tv. So weird.

[–] Thassodar@lemm.ee 7 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Dude that sucks, he was a real talent. One of the few actors who I think could have done just as good a job as Carl Winslow on Family Matters.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

R.I.P. big dude.

[–] Che_Donkey@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 months ago
