Has /r/trees said they plan to be closed indefinitely?

[–] gibbedygook@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it's still closed, but the admins might unilaterally force it open.

Given the fact that both r/trees and many other related subs almost got the chopping block last year when Reddit first started sweeping through the subs to clean up their image before starting the IPO paperwork. Only way they remained open was because the sub's mods agreed to change the sub rules (things like no external URL links, no selling, etc) and sweep all old content violating those rules.

After the API change next month, there will be no way these mods can possibly keep the subs fully moderated to the level required by Reddit admins.

Given the clandestine nature of the subs, I highly doubt that reddit admins will take it over and force it back open - I'm sure they'd rather see it stay closed indefinitely.

marijuana enthusiasts

[–] hydra@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

please rename it, c/weed sounds perfect

[–] TheBig2023Meltdown@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Trees is one of the "jokes" within Reddit where "marijuanaenthusiasts" was a sub for literal trees and trees was for weed

[–] hydra@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Oh I see, I was really out of the loop on this one haha

[–] TheBig2023Meltdown@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

No problem, another one was JohnCena and potatosalad lol

[–] eric5949@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

not quite the same but /r/superbowl was about superb owls.

[–] Thorny_Thicket@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

And animetitties is for non-US world news

[–] Delta3DStudios@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

And based on that joke, the members of r/trees would call themselves "ents" as in the Treefolk from LordOfTheRings.

And that's why there is a community called c/vaporents as in "Vapor" ents - from a reddit group dedicated to dry herbal vaporizers.

What about a !marijuanaenthusiasts community?

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Great, I have a question about irrigation for a Lisbon Lemon.

[–] exixx@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

No, that would have to be about actual trees.
