What's fucked up is that if you die here you die for real

[–] TurtleTourParty@midwest.social 1 points 9 months ago

What if we're all just playing on hard mode and have to start over with a new character when we die?

[–] yamapikariya@lemmyfi.com 12 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Sometimes I get a moment where it feels like my senses clear up or something and everything looks different and then it fades away and it feels normal again.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I get that too. It's like when a nostril clears up, but for all the other senses. I wonder if there's a name for that.

[–] steveman_ha@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I've always imagined it as closer to what "normal" would be like under more "ideal" living conditions, or being in a better rhythm with my environment or something

[–] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 11 points 9 months ago (2 children)

That sudden realization that there is no playbook, and everyone is just making it up as they go.

I'm convinced that the sudden popularity of conspiracy theories are actually people who badly need there to be something in control of it all, even if it's malevolent. That's somehow more comforting than actually staring down the void.

[–] SuckMyWang@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I personally like the void. It makes me realise that life is so meaningless that I may as well take piss out of everything. Obviously this doesn’t work out well for me at work or in relationships or in finances or health or any normal metric of success but that’s the beauty of it, who cares? All that stuff can suck my nuts

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

Bro conspiracy theories make a lot of sense.. not because there is a master plan but so many people hear so many different things that if there is a real master plan no one has the details exactly right.

Like shit I've worked in a ton of offices and I can't tell you what anyone was working on or what those offices even did.

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.ml 9 points 9 months ago

Just do what I do! Have a dissociative disorder and spend significant amounts of time derealizing to the point where dreams and whatever this is feel equally not like reality! Boldly go through life with no sense of chronological order to your memories and be like 'I guess when I'm in this maybe reality I'm more sad if I fuck up so I should be more careful about my choices than when I'm in dream reality'

[–] Cylusthevirus@kbin.social 8 points 9 months ago (18 children)

Kind of off topic but you and Stamets post SO MUCH STUFF that I'm starting to wonder if ya'all are really just one person on the account and where you guys source content...

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 21 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (4 children)

Lol, we do both post a ton and love Star Trek, but I promise we're different people. The thought of trying to double my contribution to Lemmy as one person sounds daunting.

I can't speak for Stamets, but I source most of my stuff from other sites like Twitter or Tumblr. I don't like using reddit out of principle, but I know a lot of their stuff gets circulated elsewhere, and I have taken from some "best of" reddit content when trying to help jump-start some small niche communities here.

I also make a bunch of memes now when I get the chance, mostly for Risa lately, but also for a handful of other communities I really like.

You're actually five different people each

Right? I was driven to pick up my phone and look around Lemmy, just because of two of you.

I found myself wondering how Stamets is doing. Random internet stranger, who via Risa, enriches my life.

You're cool too Picard, but Stamets, dreamy.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 2 points 9 months ago

I'm... alive.

Thanks <3

He's lying to you. We are.

Reminds me of the word sonder

n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

[–] raoulraoul@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

All the stinkin' time. 😒

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Shit… this is happening

[–] labrat55@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

This is as good as it gets.

[–] cro_magnon_gilf@sopuli.xyz 3 points 9 months ago

Hurts, don't it?

[–] FrenLivesMatter@lemmy.today 3 points 9 months ago

Freddy Mercury did.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

All the time, reality is too real to be real.. suspiciously mundane

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 9 months ago

Only after I break something

[–] ALostInquirer@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

While you sit upon a constructed object within woven fabrics, both the realizations of imaginations; the one supporting you, the one enveloping you, how can you be certain where what is imagined ends and real begins?

[–] steveman_ha@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Yup. The thought definitely has occurred. So how's it going, what do you think about it so far overall?

[–] jdf038@mander.xyz 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

4/10 the devs treat it like abandonware. I mean it was like 2000 years ago we got promised a kingdom of heaven upgrade and here I am.

Also the devs are really bigoted and have been posting weird shit in their product updates. I don't like it.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Hate to break it to you but religion was always vaporware.

[–] jdf038@mander.xyz 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That's what I was joking about. It's a reference to the old /r/outside threads.

Also /s for the post since you didn't see it 😊

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I got your joke, I was making another joke about the difference between abandonware (they might have actually intended to make it), and vaporware, where it never even got started (since religion is all talk).

[–] jdf038@mander.xyz 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Ahh so the woosh was on my end.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It’s wooshes all the way down.

[–] jdf038@mander.xyz 1 points 9 months ago

It sounds like a wind tunnel in here because we're all so oblivious.

It's pretty swell

[–] Pharmacokinetics@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Damn, reality is only limited by my imagination, and everything I hope to accomplish can be accomplished as long as I am motivated enough to put on the work?

[–] NumbersCanBeFun@kbin.social 1 points 9 months ago

I’m still waiting for the update where I can reset my character but keep all my unlocked abilities and experience. I think it would make end game more interesting to look forward too.
