I thought it was an intentional joke but he didn’t seem to think it was funny, even when I explained the “404: Office Not Found”.

I still think it’s objectively funny.

Holy shit finally. I’m a professor and my office is Room 404 of a building that’s a completely impossible maze. Students routinely show up 15 minutes late unable to locate my office, and I have tried so desperately to get literally anyone to laugh at my “Error 404 Room Not Found” jokes with no success.

Surprised students don't find it funny.

Probably stopped being funny when the third person looking for IT showed up.

If he felt that way he could’ve changed the listing on the intranet. It’s not like he’d lack access

So you're saying it probably was just some random coworkers who changed it to 404 in the first place? Then IT is probably getting sick of it, too.

It is funny

Room 301 might've been more helpful.

IT has probably heard that joke enough times that they wish the next person that tells it steps on lego blocks barefoot in the dark.

I work in IT. This is the kind of stupid joke we live for. I'm pretty darn jaded but this is absolutely something I would lean into. I'm disappointed in the IT manager who is the subject of this post.

I worked in an IT helpdesk a few years ago. Imagine the same joke told hundreds, thousands of times until long after it has gone stale. There is a point when it isn't funny anymore.

Maybe I'm just a stupid asshole lol.

I've been in IT for almost 20 years. There probably was a time in the middle of that run where I'd have felt like you do. There comes a time where things go full circle and you get so jaded that you decide to accept or even embrace the stupidity. I have up laugh at objectively dumb shit or I go insane. Helps me save my "angry energy" for things that really need it.

I have a kid and a dog. A chewed dog toy of the "incredibly hard for aggressive chewers" is like stepping on Lego sharpened by Japanese swordsmiths who then used it to make new teeth for a piranha that's biting your foot.

I work in IT and if I had the option of having an office 404 I would take it and then use societal pressure to dare people to actually make that joke.

And if they did I would take the security cam photo of them walking up to my office and post it on the wall outside of my office on the Wall of shame.

The Wall of shame board currently is empty, but I have thought about putting up a sign from Wikipedia that says you can help by expanding it

He didn’t get it. Blank stare. “Oh I was looking for you at 404. Thought that was funny.” “My office isn’t there.” “Yeh, but it’s 404. And you weren’t found.” “My office is here.” “Okay. Well anyway..”

Years ago I worked at a place that had the servers in room 500.
