Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative at the UN, pointedly called on all parties involved “to exercise maximum restraint strictly abide by international law and minimise the risk of accidents”, adding: ”We must not allow the tragedies of the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear accidents to be repeated.”

The title and the reality described in this paragraph are two quite different things. Not really that surprising given that inews is the Daily Mail under a rebranding.

+1 with you. I was confused as well after just reading the title

Do you have a mirror of this? My government blocks RT because of the war.

I don't, maybe the poster of original have @Amicchan@lemmygrad.ml ?

Any credible source on this? Russia Today has a huge history of spreading fake news.

You are confusing fake news (articles that are completely fake) with disinformation (a smear phrased that actually just means things western governments don't like).

You've been posting articles that are nothing but fake news, why do you suddenly care, seemingly out of nowhere?

[–] kujaw@lemmy.ml -3 points 2 years ago

It's your opinion. I care because people are dying because of Russian Federation attacking Ukraine.

Who took nuclear plant as a hostage? Russia or Ukraine?

[–] Awoo@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

I know. But you need to answer the question of Donetsk and Luhansk. Do you want everyone there to die? This was didn't start in march it start 8 years ago when the 2014 coup happened. The people of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk were already very very concerned about the potential to be ethnically persecuted because it had been rising for many decades already in the west with targeted attacks on ethnically russian (ukrainian citizens) and so on. Bans on using russian language in restaurant menus were implemented and finally when the bans on using russian language in schools and government services were implemented the people of these regions were tipped over the edge into secessionism. That is when the civil war of Ukraine began, a war between Ukrainian nationals that were ethnically russian and felt they were no longer safe as part of Ukraine and the Ukrainian government.

That war raged for 8 years before Russia stepped in. And it will not magically go away if Russia leaves. What do you suggest doing? Letting Ukraine kill them all?

So, Russia has troops inside the power plant, and they are apparently holding workers at gunpoint so they keep producing electricity. Ukraine, as expected, has decided not to attack those Russian troops and endanger the rest of us in the world, while stupid Russians are shelling their own positions and halting the production that they themselves are attempting to keep going. They are probably not stopping even when the prospect of a nuclear catastrophe is pushing international forces to act, as Mr Zelenskyy has many times requested, probably eventually expelling Russian forces from the area. As stupid as they are, they don't realize that the attacks they are performing only benefit the military interests of Ukraine, and not their own... Thankfully, that Chinese official has stated that "all parties [...] exercise maximum restraint”, and by "all parties" we should of course understand they're referring specifically to Russia, just like the article states in its title, as they are clearly the ones performing the attacks.

Edit: /s, for the sake of fuck

Is this a parody? Or do you really believe that Russia is shooting at its own troops, and at territory it completely controls?

[–] pancake@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I was being sarcastic, yes. For some reason, people are just accepting that narrative (hey, people have different versions of the facts, I can understand that) without even questioning whether it makes sense at all.

[–] guojing@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 years ago

Good job, I really couldnt tell.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

The fact that it's difficult to tell sarcasm and liberal talking points apart says volumes.

This is what happens to your brain after gulping news from every western MSM without questioning and critical thinking.

I don't know much about this situation, but it seems appropriate that the plant should temporarily be shut down, all radioactive materials removed. This would probably leave a lot of people without power though because this plant is one of the biggest in Europe and provides a lot of electricity.

[–] kujaw@lemmy.ml -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Most appropriate would be Putin calling off his army and apologising his brothers for attacking and murdering them.

[–] gun@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

No, the most appropriate would be Zelensky following the Minsk accords and calling off his army and apologising his brothers for attacking and murdering them. Then Russia would have no reason to intervene.
