Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative at the UN, pointedly called on all parties involved “to exercise maximum restraint strictly abide by international law and minimise the risk of accidents”, adding: ”We must not allow the tragedies of the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear accidents to be repeated.”

The title and the reality described in this paragraph are two quite different things. Not really that surprising given that inews is the Daily Mail under a rebranding.

Any credible source on this? Russia Today has a huge history of spreading fake news.

You are confusing fake news (articles that are completely fake) with disinformation (a smear phrased that actually just means things western governments don't like).

You've been posting articles that are nothing but fake news, why do you suddenly care, seemingly out of nowhere?

[–] kujaw@lemmy.ml -3 points 2 years ago

It's your opinion. I care because people are dying because of Russian Federation attacking Ukraine.

Who took nuclear plant as a hostage? Russia or Ukraine?

I know. But you need to answer the question of Donetsk and Luhansk. Do you want everyone there to die? This was didn't start in march it start 8 years ago when the 2014 coup happened. The people of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk were already very very concerned about the potential to be ethnically persecuted because it had been rising for many decades already in the west with targeted attacks on ethnically russian (ukrainian citizens) and so on. Bans on using russian language in restaurant menus were implemented and finally when the bans on using russian language in schools and government services were implemented the people of these regions were tipped over the edge into secessionism. That is when the civil war of Ukraine began, a war between Ukrainian nationals that were ethnically russian and felt they were no longer safe as part of Ukraine and the Ukrainian government.

That war raged for 8 years before Russia stepped in. And it will not magically go away if Russia leaves. What do you suggest doing? Letting Ukraine kill them all?
