Unsurprising, 90% of aeronautical engineering people are furries.

[–] Gabu@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It turns out that everyone in every industry is a furry, except that one guy reading this.

[–] closetfurry@yiffit.net 9 points 1 year ago

Whew. I was almost starting to get worried

[–] UsernameIsTooLon@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Social isolation tends to lead to hyperfixations. Whether that be airplanes or computers.

[–] nyoooom@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nah that's just the autism

[–] Betch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Kind of a chicken or egg situation, but I also think it's the 'tizz,

[–] Abnorc@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

is this why flying is so safe? As far as I’ve heard, if you want something done right, make sure the furries do it.

Just like software developers/devops

OwO will conquer the world

[–] genoxidedev1@kbin.social 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It will be a better world UwU

[–] SuckMyWang@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (7 children)

I’m out of the loop with this. Isn’t this some gay furry dog whistle?

[–] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 year ago

No, it is but a poor approximation of Θώθ, the Greek name of the Egyptian God of Wisdom. Unfortunately most keyboards cannot type the language of the gods, so we poor mortals must make do with OwO.

(/s. It might have started among furries but is pretty much a meme at this point.)

[–] MustrumR@kbin.social 32 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

From my experience a bit but not really.

I did meet a lot of gays and furries (VR Chat player) and I don't think they have any dog whistles. OwO does indeed helps them recognize people that don't hate them, but it isn't meant to be unregonizable by bigots.

It's more of a opposite, people saying OwO want to be obnoxious. Saying it is either a show that one doesn't mind being seen as gay/furry (and isn't necessarily), or straight up wants to annoy someone.

[–] irmoz@reddthat.com 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's more an all round deviant thing

I'm not a furry, but I find OwO funny as hell

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Use it in a sentence so I can understand the joke. I don't get it.

[–] irmoz@reddthat.com 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not everything's funny to everyone, man. Maybe it's just not your thing. It basically just implies you're horny and want to fuck whatever you're talking about. Or personifies an object as horny, as in the image.

"That's a big tree. OwO."

If O_O is a normal surprised face, OwO is an animalistic surprised face. That's the origin really. Anything else is just contextualization and Internet phenomena.

"Oh man that's a big cucumber O_O" sexually implied sentence.

"Oh man that's a big cucumber OwO" sexually implied sentence, but furry.

Spiders be like OoOowoOoO

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

It's a whistle for dogs alright :3

(yes, though I wouldn't even really call it much of a dog whistle, it's not very hidden)

Why, ya considering a future into puppy play?

[–] Jimbo@yiffit.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Started out as a furry thing, think it's been taken up by weebs now as well. Not sure if it's non furry weebs tho, as you might imagine there's a bit of overlap

[–] Gabu@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

As someone who was there when the ancient lore was written, OwO has been a thing among weebs for just as long if not longer.

[–] JohnDClay@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Specifically it's supposed to look like eyes and smile of a dog.

[–] Donkter@lemmy.world 52 points 1 year ago

OwO what's this? I say, just before drilling a small hole in the fuel tank of the plane moments before takeoff.

[–] Caketaco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 1 year ago

I am terrified thinking about how many pilots or aircraft engineers zerk off to aeromorph porn. There is too much plane porn online, some of you people are lying about being innocent.

Sounds like that dude wrote hundreds of OwO's and is trying to cover his tracks

[–] Fjern@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you see OwO written like on a wall or something like this, you are supposed to add a U at the end. "One world, One utopia"

To show the original OwO messenger that you are part of the Owous.

[–] dutchkimble@lemy.lol 2 points 1 year ago

So,

If you see OwOU written like on a wall or something like this, you are supposed to add a U at the end. "One world, One utopia"

To show the original OwOU messenger that you are part of the OwoUus.

[–] blackluster117@possumpat.io 27 points 1 year ago

Looks like this is the modern-day Kilroy.

[–] zagaberoo@beehaw.org 14 points 1 year ago

I just saw an OwO scrawled in a cargo bin on a commercial flight last week myself.
