I wish I was back asleep.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm surprised at how many people don't take a piss first thing in the morning.

[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 year ago

Well, I personally prefer getting out of bed before that, but you do you I guess.

[–] RHSJack@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I pee. Then I get out of bed. Start coffee. Take a shower. Get out of wet pyjamas and put on dry clothes for work. I didn't think it needed to be said.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Do you cover "the spot"?

[–] EdherJr@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I go grab some very cold water

[–] xeddyx@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Hah, it's the opposite for me - I grab some very warm water.

[–] EdherJr@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't worry, we respect all water drinkers

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Water sippas

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Cold water first thing in the morning makes my diaphragm cramp up and knock the wind out of me like I just got kicked in the stomach. If I'm standing up when it happens I crumple to the floor in the fetal position. Tepid water for the win.

Oh, a morning routine! It's my favorite part of the day and something I'm oddly passionate about!

Most importantly, I make sure to go to bed at a reasonable time the night before, and i leave my curtains open to let the sunlight wake me up naturally. Just in case I'm extra sleepy, I set a vibration alarm on my phone and place it under my pillow for backup

After I wake up, I:

  1. Head to the restroom

  2. Sluggishly make my bed

  3. Go downstairs, drink a glass of water to hydrate, and then brew some coffee

  4. feed the cats

  5. Then I drink coffee and watch TV for a bit while I wake up and wait for the caffiene to kick in

  6. Shower, brush teeth, apply deoderant, style hair, shave stubble, apply cologne

I have really shit mental health, so I have to take extra care of myself and be very intentional about my actions. My morning routine is a sacred part of the day and helps me enjoy being alive :)

Shower has to be the #1 spot.

If I don't shower first I will feel like shit and wont do anything productive whatsoever.

No amount of caffeine can equal the power of a hot shower.

Go to the bathroom and hudge a big 'ol grumpy

[–] 14372707@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago

Love how this thread is mostly actually reasonable morning routines :)

[–] NPC@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

It's bad, but it's a ritual I love: wake up, put on my bathrobe, shuffle over to my espresso machine, make myself a nice espresso or cappuccino, light up a smoke and cuddle with my cat a for a bit. Then when my brain wakes up as well, have a shower while my cat is screaming at me, horrified that I'm willing standing in water.

  1. Wake up
  2. Grab a brush and put a little makeup
  3. Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
  4. Check phone
  5. Watch porn
  6. Get out of bed.
  7. Turn on TV
  8. Pet dog
  9. Eat weed edible
  10. Make and eat bowl of cereal.
  11. Roughly style Mohawk
  12. Get dressed, put on hand moisturizer then latex gloves then leather gloves
  13. Do concrete work in yard(move dirt/set forms/mix+pour/repeat)
  14. Get too hot
  15. Walk my dog to the river by my house
  16. Swim against current until exausted
  17. Shower.
  18. Redo mohawk with hairgel

Then I start my day. That's been my routine for a bit over 2 months now? Can't complain

Pray for one more second of ecstatic comfort and numbness to the world. Contemplate why the world is the way it is. It's not right.

Wake up, reach for my phone “just to wake my eyes up,” proceed to waste time and as a result rush through the rest of whatever else I have to do in the morning.

[–] landsharkkidd@aussie.zone 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Usually wake up at 8 to take ADHD medication and then sleep for an hour (I've heard that ADHD meds absorb better if you don't eat in the hour before or after you take it, but this could be false). Then get up at 9, shower if I have to, get dressed, make breakfast watch YouTube and then get ready for work.

On days I'm not working I do the same thing but I might shower later but I just won't get ready for work because I don't need to.

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I also wake up to take my adhd medicine, and then sleep for another hour. Makes waking up less... chaotic

[–] landsharkkidd@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Honestly, it's so much easier too. Getting that extra like hour-ish of sleep is nice.

[–] skunk@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wake up Shit Check the stonk markets Get out of bed

[–] skunk@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

But a serious answer, I wake up Use restroom while scrolling lemmy and checking news Brush teeth Drink tall glass of water Drink small glass of orange juice (~50-100ml) Make and eat breakfast (bagel/toast and cheese/ eggs) while reading on phone Drink coffee (prepped the night before to brew automatically when I wake up) Get dressed and pack backpack Bike to work

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I set two alarms, one at 5am and another at 6am. The first alarm is lighter and less obtrusive, it's just meant to nudge me and let me know that it's getting close to waking up. I know myself and I know I'll take a awhile to get up. Even the 6am alarm, louder and more jarring, I'll hit snooze on. Then when 6:30am comes, it's a flurry of activity getting myself up, stumble to the bathroom to pee, start prepping stuff for the morning, wake the kids up, get them ready, then rush out the door. It usually happens within the span of 45-55 minutes every morning.

[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Turn off my alarm, go back to bed with my phone and convince myself that I'll just have a quick look at Lemmy, then decide to check the news and proceed to surf around the Internet for the next two hours until the threat of pissing myself forces me to finally get up and rush to the toilet.

Drink between four and six double shot espressos.

Yes, I might have a bit of an addiction.

[–] 13esq@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Funny thing is that caffeine is a dependancy drug. Those espressos aren't perking you up, they're just bringing you back to normal.

I found caffeine surprisingly easy to give up and unlike nicotine, I don't miss it at all.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I have 2 Delonghi Magnifica espresso makers, one is at 35,000 shots poured, the other is over 40,000. At this point, I figure my body is 25% caffeine molecules.

Your statement is true to an extent (like anything), but using caffeine can be effective for improving focus and alertness, even over non-caffeine users.

https://hubermanlab.com/using-caffeine-to-optimize-mental-and-physical-performance/

I find this guy to present an interesting and somewhat scientific perspective on things. I completely don't do things the way he suggests, so bad on me. And my intake is way above his suggested amounts, obviously.

And 100% on the nicotine thing, I've stopped drinking coffee for a few months at a time, and I've had nothing like the cravings I still get for nicotine a decade+ after I've quit. I fucking love smoking, I just don't do it anymore.

[–] Coconut1233@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I get to like 2-3 before lunch, but 4 to 6 in the morning?

[–] LongPigFlavor@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Turn off my phone alarm and turn the lights on in my room so I don't fall back asleep.

[–] DLSantini@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Feed my asshole of a fish, who proceeds to ignore the food until it gets sucked up by the filter, and I have to put more in.

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

It largely depends on what tasks await me that day.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Jerk off cuz I always have super painful boners in the morning.

[–] raker@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I wash myself with a rag that I tied to a stick

[–] emptyother@programming.dev 1 points 1 year ago

Go back to bed for an hour or more. Then force myself out of bed while I'm freezing (even in a warm room). Pee. Get on clothes. Go outside to buy a iced coffee (more for the morning walk than for the coffee).

Heres a weird thing.. Step 1 and 2 has been so much easier lately. After I started taking 2g fast-release melatonin pills before bed. Why would pills for falling asleep faster help me waking up 7.5 hours later? I'm hoping struggling with those two steps can be a thing of the past, if this continues. I hate how grumpy (and cold, and slow) I usually am every darn morning.

[–] AttackBunny@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Wake up, bathroom things, put on running clothes, put on running shoes, get rest of running gear, and then go for a run. Come home shower, drink my green drink, then work.

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

First I fill and start my kettle, while it heats up I open the blinds and go to the toilet. Then I make myself some tea which I drink while watching a SC2 cast by Harstem. Afterwards I brush my teeth, get dressed and leave for work.
