except the original lyrics didn't go like that...

From Genius:

"Guns N Roses guitarist Slash – who wrote most of the music for this song – wanted the repeat of the chorus to change to:

Where the girls are fat
And they’ve got big titties

Lead singer Axl Rose didn’t go for it. Instead it follows with nice sights most Americans long to find. Particularly for being better than usual (after all, the grass is always greener on the other side).

Note the alliteration: grass, green and girls."

Thanks for the fun fact! I didn't know this.

Slash knows what's up.

Also this:

They should have gone with that one.

We always used to sing .... "Where the girls are green and the grass is pretty"

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Are you sure about that?

Take me down to the Paradise City
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home (I want you, please, take me home)

I mean they repeat it a whole bunch of times.

Those weren't the original lyrics, though. Axl changed them before the song was recorded (good move, though)
