The laws regarding knives here can be a bit vague at times and I'm wondering if knives like this

Or this

Would be considered illegal? The top one is assisted and deploys in a way that seems like a switchblade and the bottom one can be opened with one hand thanks to the knob. I am not sure if they would be viewed any differently than a pocket knife because they use utility blades making it a bit more obvious that they are a tool.

And why do you like it so much?

my first choice has always been an aspirin, but most of my coworkers tell me I'm wrong and I should use ibuprofen first.

What's your take?

So since I started taking my meds many years ago my dreams became more vivid and I can remember them better and in more detail. Usually this is great but I watched Terrifier 3 last night and had one the most messed up scenes of a dream stuck in my head. Wtf brain?! Seriously, it involved a child and now I'm messed up because of my own fucking brain, not even a real thing.

Any of you had a similar experience?

If we can avoid massive collective issues that would be appreciated as there is very little agency the individual has to address those and that helpless ess can often extend to the more solvable individual matters we all grapple with but also occasionally rise to conquer.

I know this is a Controversial question, you don’t need to answer if you don’t want to.

Great, we could sleep one hour more, but suddenly, it's getting dark at 18.

Great we have one hour more of sun on the morning, but instead of being pitch black when starting to commute to work it's just still dark and by the end of November it'll be pitch black anyway.

I know people like to set everything to new and just leave it at that. Especially when you just got out of an algorithm abusive environment on major social media platforms.

For me, I changed to using the "hot" sorting method rather then the new and active sorting methods. Granted I started out with the "new".

Heres why I went from new to hot.

Some new posts don't get comments. There are sometimes duplicate posts that do get comments that are talking about the same topic.

What hot setting does is essentially, keep newer posts that are active with comments active. Score has an impact, but as a post itself get older itself then others will rise despite how high the score was or comment amount. Making this I think my current preferred.

In other words hot is a slight modification to active setting. Active doesn't factor the date of the post with scaling, and it even I think beats the algorithms since I know how it's working and that it might not change behind my back (looking at you Youtube.).

Last remarks: What are your favorite setting and/or perspectives on post sorting?

I’ve noticed a correlation between people who don’t like cats and having narcissistic or selfish tendencies ...

What I do is to run the exiftool to strip all the metadata from the image. Next, I check if there are any identifying details in the image like landmarks or background details (e.g. stuff on my whiteboard). And finally I check for the unwanted reflections or for the setup that could be recognised outside the community I share the photo with. Last but not least, I never share a photo in more than one place.

So, i am using an app that have AI.

I want to probe what is their AI provider, (whether they use openai, gemini, Claude) or using an open source model (llama, mistral ...)

Is there any questions, prompt that can be use to make the AI reveal such information?

Sometime i want to send small messages between devices, such as a url, a note, a id, a token, a piece of code, a picture Especially send between phone and laptop.

Some chatting app have self messages such as telegram saved messages, slack (you), Microsoft team...

However i don't want a bloated chat app that would took few hundred mb on phone, or required to install an app on my pc (linux which make many app broken). I don't want work chat app too, because self messages can be seen and scanned by employer (yes, a security add on chatbot on slack warm me because i send something like password to myself on slack)

Something like Opera Flow would fit perfectly, but i don't want opera browser.

I need your opinion and suggestions on the best Lemmy client to use.

P.S., I currently use Voyager as my client.

I'm planning a huge playthru of a game, and I'd like to be able to look back at it years down the line. However I'm expecting it to be 100s of hours (maybe around/over 1k, but I hope not longer than 2k) and years to finish (I'm not planning on playing 8+h a day).

What are he most optimal settings for OBS to save as much video as possible, while it's still watchable?

I could record in 1440p 165fps. I know that's dumb, but idk how low I'm willing to go. 1440p sounds awesome, but lower than 1080p would lose too much information. Same with lower than 60fps. I don't have a clue as to what bitrate would do well, and what encoding is best. For bitrate I have a clue that it needs to be as high as possible. As it can be a bullethell and there are way to many particles/effects on screen, while everything that matters is small. (I'm not trying to be secretive here, game's modded Terraria)

I'd also state that I'd like to error on the storage side, I don't mind buying another HDD, they really aren't that expensive. And I'm also planning on editing the video down as soon as possible, so that I delete all the boring parts. Meaning I probably won't have all of that lenght on my disk at once.

Thank you for any aid in my crazy endeavour.

I for one am going through quite a culture shock. I always assumed the nature of FOSS software made it immune to be confined within the policies of nations; I guess if one day the government of USA starts to think that its a security concers for china to use and contribute to core opensource software created by its citizens or based in their boundaries, they might strongarm FOSS communities and projects to make their software exclude them in someway or worse declare GPL software a threat to national security.

I had joined Reddit twice in my lifetime but was not actively using it, and maybe that’s the reason I’m not very familiar with this forum culture.

I would say that Lemmy is by far the most responsive SNS in terms of the community engagement that I’ve ever used.

I've heard it be encouraged that users should curate their own experience on Lemmy by blocking accounts, communities, and/or instances that you don't want to see. I imagine I'm not the only one curious how my total compares to others'

I'm at 142, and I'm unsure if I should pretend to be bashful about that total
