It being slow is exactly why I like it. A focus on characters over plot is sorely lacking in TV these days. Man we were truly spoiled in the aughts and early tens.
You may not care about financial shit, but that doesn't change the reality of the situation. My point is precisely that the financial costs are so prohibitive, that the most likely scenario is that no one will be capable of stepping up long term.
As soon as there's another spectre level security incident that requires a massive rewrite of the engine, any rendering engine developers with sub 100M budgets are sunk. Frankly 100M is probably being optimistic.

Funny you mention Ladybird.. It's a commendable project and I hope they succeed. But until it renders 99% of websites, plays Netflix videos, has all the modern features people expect of a web browser and is an actual viable option for non techies.. It is really proving the opposite of your point. The fact that an alpha is still years away speaks to how hard this really is.
