Your daily reminder that we all live in capitalist oligarchies masquerading as democracies.

Reolink and one other I can't remember seem to be the most consistently recommended hardware (actual security companies rather than cheap Chinese hardware rebranded by hundreds of drop shipping start ups). They only need internet access for the initial activation, and can be connected to home assistant or ftp server. I created an account with an alias email, then blocked its internet access from the router. It works fine on LAN and via tailscale.

NOTE: these wifi cams are not a "security" system. They're for basic monitoring and scaring your cat.

You don't even know my political views

The fact you're so low IQ you think clarifying you're pro-authoritarian is even necessary... Straight perfection! You embody the weak, scared, conservative simp who yearns to be ruled by a king to feel safe and secure.

Custom domains mean that if the alias provider enshittifies, you can switch to any other provider near-instantly. As long as you never use the domains to host illegal or dodgy shit it's extremely unlikely you'll ever lose them — far less likely than losing a gmail or whatever.

With SL you can avoid spam by using the "beta" (been beta for 3+ years lol) "auto create" option instead of a catch-all, meaning that you can direct emails to different inboxes (or do nothing) based on specific regex strings you control — up to 100 of them. I had a catch-all regex (.*) as my # 100 and it took 2 years to receive catch-all fishing spam. Then I removed it and now have only random strings (e.g. .*fgyu.*) so new emails must have them if they want to get somewhere. Everything else bounces. All previous emails continue to work until you disable them individually.

I use a mix:

  • SL-domains: anything I don't give a shit about.
  • Non-PII domain: anything I would want to persist if I changed provider, but don't need my identity, or can give out a unique email in-person.
  • PII-domain: banks and all other services tied to my identity.
  • Top-Secret-PII-domain: critical services that could compromise all others (password manager, email/OS accounts, domain name registrar).

Any evidence Wikileaks withheld info about the right? They release info that's leaked to them. If Russia used Wikileaks to further their own agenda, that's not a Wikileaks problem (as long as the information is accurate).

Notice how you're angry at the people who released the info instead of the people who were corrupt and deplorable? PsyOps mission accomplished!

My understanding is that, while it's likely the source of those leaks was Russia, it's never been proven wikileaks withheld info about Republicans. I've seen the claims dozens of times, but never the evidence, so please share if you do... Otherwise, it's insane to hate a journalist for withholding information they don't have, just because it hurts your preferred political party.

EDIT T+2hrs: 35% downvotes and zero replies or supporting evidence. FYI I asked the same thing on Reddit about a dozen times over the last decade, and the result was always the same — If your position is "I can find no evidence for my claims, and don't know why I hate WikiLeaks or Assange. I just do." then you're probably a psychological warfare victim...

Isn't it great that a man who exposed governmental corruption and war crimes faced a harsher persecution and punishment than the corrupt governments and war criminals themselves?

Democracy™️

Every time I've joined a large group chat, I've always wished there were hundreds more people talking over the top of each other to make the whole communication thing more efficient!

The last thing anyone would expect in the ocean

This, or the humble royalty, is most fictional hero storylines. I unironically believe capitalism uses these tropes to condition the people into believing feudalism, authoritarianism, and genetic divinity are justifiable.

Remember! The rich are rich because they're better than you! Not because them or their ancestors were murderers, slave owners, exploiters, criminal sociopaths, etc.

Conservative estimates put U.S. direct subsidies to the fossil fuel industry at roughly $20 billion per year. European Union subsidies are estimated to total 55 billion euros annually.

Alternative Headline: "The US spent at least 400 billion to maintain its fossil fuel car and energy industries this century."

If the western political classes hadn't corruptly subsidized the fossil fuel oligarchy with trillions of dollars since WW2, the west would be leading the world in clean energy tech. Instead, exactly as expected, the same politicians and oligarchs who made fossil fueled warming an existential threat to life on Earth are continuing to hamstring the clean energy transition and deflect blame, by screaming "China bad".

The corporate oligarchy would prefer to sow the seeds of fascism, nationalism, and xenophobia than allow legitimate democracy, make fewer profits, or give workers a fair share. They proved that when they outsourced as much as possible to China, and other authoritarian states.

Try the user agent switcher add-on. The volume of times I've changed my agent to chrome and had a site work perfectly is infuriating.

Broke timestamps. Everywhere. New replies will show "10 hrs" while the original comment will show "18 mins".

When viewing posts I see tons of phantom comments that seemingly have nothing to do with the post or are replying to something when they appear at the top level. Navigating to the post in a web browser shows dozens more comments (not from users I've blocked or anything).

Formatting of content across posts and comments doesn't match what the site does when I view it in the browser.

Thanks to the Memmy dev and any contributors, but broken software is broken software.

So, what's the best alternative these days?
