This is something I've struggled with. I read a lot of trending books in high school like Hunger Games and Twilight but ended up reading 50 Shades of Grey to the end and it honestly turned me off of reading for a while

I'm not the fastest reader so it really seemed like I just wasted a lot of time

Locally to a file?

Should be similar on most Linux distros.

Google Authenticator is good. The only downside can be keeping multiple phones so you have a backup. I don't know if there's something similar on iOS but on Android Aegis is an open source alternative that is compatible with Google Authenticator and lets you locally export your codes

Can you mount them? If so what does that look like?

I can't say I blame them when it comes to going with what's comfortable.

I used Windows and Linux while in school so it's what I got used to. Whenever I use MacOS I feel incredibly lost

I've started to really like just mustard and sauerkraut on my hotdogs and racing games over FPS because they're a little slower paced.

Can you tell us some fun facts or stories?

It likely depends instance to instance due to how Lemmy is federated. You may want to try browsing some small communities that you enjoy and seeing if they want an extra mod.

I imagine a lot of the time they don't feel the need to actively looking for one just yet but if the community sees a surge in people that might change in a hurry

I haven't come across a general community for it though to answer your question

I saw a comment once that said they are like sharks in that they can smell fear.

Yeah. Would be nice for those of us that never got to try out the online mode. I also don't think it's available on Playstation past the PS3

Such a shame. I thought they used some unofficial version of the API. I wonder what other open source front end I was thinking of?

I really think it comes down to the individual. I personally think that Aldous Huxley's book Brave New World was likely derived at least partially from the book We by Russian author Yevgeny Zamyatin but both Aldous Huxley and my 10th grade English teacher would disagree. I don't think it's wrong to take someone else's work and add upon it in a way you view beneficial. I view it as a natural evolution if anything and if it gives someone something to enjoy or makes the creative processes a little easier I'm all for it.

My family did secret Santa every year with a $20 limit so it was typically gag gifts. One year a family member was sick on Christmas so we just left our gifts piled up in a closet.

None of the gifts had tags because it was all supposed to be anonymous so when we handed out gifts the following year my great grandma ended up unwrapping a box of noodles shaped like penises.

Pretty basic question but I am struggling to find the words to get the correct search result. The soldering iron I bought came with very narrow tips that I think are supposed to be used for circuit boards and components.

When I attempt to solder lines from a USB cord together the line never gets warm enough.

I remember in the past soldering copper lines together from an appliance with no issue so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong in terms of technique but who knows?

I'm playing on PS4 and am looking for games to play in 2 to 3 hour chunks after work.

I found this post /r/FalloutFAQ a while back and thought it was rather interesting.

To summarize a lot of the post:

  • In an interview with The Guardian Todd Howard stated that he's happy with the level availability games have due to backwards compatibility and that he prefers games like the original Fallout to be played the way they were originally intended. Skyrim being remastered was a product of special circumstances.

  • A section talks about when Fallout fans thought Fallout 3 was going to be remastered in 2019 and the history of bad remasters

  • There has been a bit of debate about whether or not the source code for the classic Fallout titles was lost.

(TLDR) Essentially there doesn't seem to be much interest from Bethesda.

Remakes:

Ceased development in 2019. Multiple YouTube videos are available showing off what was completed.

An attempt to recreate Fallout 2 in Fallout New Vegas. The mod author's VK page appears to have last been updated in April of 2022. The ModDB page was lasted updated in October 2017.

Designed to be an open-source version of Fallout Tactics

A remake of Fallout 3 in Fallout 4's engine. Was temporarily cancelled due to audio rights issues. Appears to still be under development with the release of their Fallout 4: Point Lookout mod in February of 2022. Their Discord may contain further information.

A remake of Fallout New Vegas in Fallout 4. I linked to the Nitter page instead of their Facebook/Twitter/Discord page so you can see their posts without logging in. The original web page linked in the Reddit post no longer works. Appears to still be in development.

Notable mentions:

Tried to revise Fallout Tactics from the ground up to create a better overall experience and restore lost content. Last update was in August of 2016.

A well known mod that combines Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Ports of the original two Fallout games for modern operating systems (MacOS, Windows, Android, and the PS Vita).

fo2.exe is an Android port that is also available on the Google Play Store.

A recreation of Van Buren in Fallout 2's engine.

Another recreation of Van Buren but in the Unity engine.

From my understanding the DVD releases don't contain music videos but unfortunately I've only found edits or recordings of the original airing that include them.

This is kind of similar to only being able to find the directors cut of a movie online.

I would appreciate if someone pointed me in the right direction

For those who don't know about Fallout Van Buren you can read more on the Fallout Wiki but it would have been the third mainline Fallout game. It was canceled when Interplay Entertainment went bankrupt in 2003. There was a tech demo released and several design documents. Multiple concepts from Van Buren ended up appearing in Fallout New Vegas.

There have been several attempts at remaking the game in various engines. The most well known project used to be known as Project Van Buren but goes by Revelation Blues now.

For example clicking back space in "Any idea what's going on?" Caused it to read "Any idea what'sgoin". I've only noticed this with Jerboa.

And why do you think it was be based there?

I know this has been asked a thousand times on /r/Fallout but I'm curious what people here have to say. I also haven't played Fallout 76 so I imagine a lot of places were likely ruled out or hinted at

The blood donation lady asked me if I was hydrated and I said I think so. She asked how much I drank and was surprised to hear I usually drink 4L before noon

Some of them that come to mind for me are:

  • FitGirl's Escape from Tarkov repack that featured a single player mod

  • FitGirl's Half Life Alyx repack that with the NoVR mod

  • Gnarly's Tale of Two Wastelands repack that had everything ready to go after the install. No need to install both Fallout 3 & New Vegas and wait hours for things to compile
