All things about Fallout series.

Hey, so I've been meaning to get into the Fallout series for some time but haven't been sure where to start. I'm a big fan of games like the Borderlands series and am wondering if there is some overlap in appeal between the 2 franchises if anyone's a fan of both. I know that Fallout is definitely more RPG-y.

I have Fallout 1, 2, 3 and New Vegas from Epic and sales. I've heard a lot about New Vegas and I've heard that the first 2 are very dated but I'm not opposed to dated visuals if the game itself is still relatively playable. Chronological or is there a recommended game? Thanks.

I signed up and played 76 after the first release—you know, the one with only like 3 humans.

It was my favorite experience. Empty, beautiful, peaceful and very exciting. The ambient music is my favorite of the whole series and it really set the tone.

I liked the feeling that you and a few other people online were the only real human survivors and the bots and mutants were the only things left in the world.

That changed after people complained… I quit after some changes were made. I logged in recently and now it’s full of generic NPCs and bullet sponge enemies. Not for me anymore.

I guess I’ll never be able to go back to that feeling right after release. It really was something else.

Anybody else play the game right after it was released?

Just wondering what some of your favorite and/or hated quests are and why? I hate come fly with me from NV personally. Jason Bright and his followers can get bent.

Just like the title says. On reddit they created a community just for showing off settlement builds and 76 bases so I wanted to create something similar on Lemmy. I've included these communities in the sidebar to try and create some level of cohesion between the fallout communities.

Wanted to do a shout-out, that's all!

Meeting my partners family in India for the first time, and these are the plasters that they just handed me. I hope my medicine skill is high enough to for to me to stay on.

I found this post /r/FalloutFAQ a while back and thought it was rather interesting.

To summarize a lot of the post:

  • In an interview with The Guardian Todd Howard stated that he's happy with the level availability games have due to backwards compatibility and that he prefers games like the original Fallout to be played the way they were originally intended. Skyrim being remastered was a product of special circumstances.

  • A section talks about when Fallout fans thought Fallout 3 was going to be remastered in 2019 and the history of bad remasters

  • There has been a bit of debate about whether or not the source code for the classic Fallout titles was lost.

(TLDR) Essentially there doesn't seem to be much interest from Bethesda.

Remakes:

Ceased development in 2019. Multiple YouTube videos are available showing off what was completed.

An attempt to recreate Fallout 2 in Fallout New Vegas. The mod author's VK page appears to have last been updated in April of 2022. The ModDB page was lasted updated in October 2017.

Designed to be an open-source version of Fallout Tactics

A remake of Fallout 3 in Fallout 4's engine. Was temporarily cancelled due to audio rights issues. Appears to still be under development with the release of their Fallout 4: Point Lookout mod in February of 2022. Their Discord may contain further information.

A remake of Fallout New Vegas in Fallout 4. I linked to the Nitter page instead of their Facebook/Twitter/Discord page so you can see their posts without logging in. The original web page linked in the Reddit post no longer works. Appears to still be in development.

Notable mentions:

Tried to revise Fallout Tactics from the ground up to create a better overall experience and restore lost content. Last update was in August of 2016.

A well known mod that combines Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Ports of the original two Fallout games for modern operating systems (MacOS, Windows, Android, and the PS Vita).

fo2.exe is an Android port that is also available on the Google Play Store.

A recreation of Van Buren in Fallout 2's engine.

Another recreation of Van Buren but in the Unity engine.

For those who don't know about Fallout Van Buren you can read more on the Fallout Wiki but it would have been the third mainline Fallout game. It was canceled when Interplay Entertainment went bankrupt in 2003. There was a tech demo released and several design documents. Multiple concepts from Van Buren ended up appearing in Fallout New Vegas.

There have been several attempts at remaking the game in various engines. The most well known project used to be known as Project Van Buren but goes by Revelation Blues now.

I have long played with Project Nevada, but when I brought that up elsewhere I was basically called a big dumb dumb.

What is a good, preferably all in one package, to give good quality of life, gameplay, and decent graphical updates to FNV? I really liked the mechanic in Project Nevada of AP being used for conventional slow mo, as I’ve never enjoyed first person VATS and thought the slow mo was a good tweak.

That's it. That's what happened.

Context: I mostly do settlement building. I run around booty cheeks out to the wind because it makes things easier (specifically the glitch for lowering settlement size.)

  • Fast travel to Zimonja.
  • Hear death claw noises and "yer fucked m8" music.
  • Slam ESC.
  • Scream\laugh because i had just been thinking to myself how funny\terrible it would be if something like this happened.
  • Alt+F9 to record because of course I'm gonna record my naked ass sprinting away from him
  • ESC again and book it into the crowd of settlers spraying bullets at me and big lizard.

Never seen a death claw up there before in my 500+ hrs on this game.

For the record, i lived. ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

I want to replay the original Fallout because when I did I cheesed my way through it (got captured by the master, save-scummed like crazy and killed everyone, game over without actually realizing what happened), and I was wondering what's the most the most balanced build to have most doors open when it comes to choosing how to approach a quest. I don't want the exact stats or anything, just some general tips.

Thank you all in advance!

And why do you think it was be based there?

I know this has been asked a thousand times on /r/Fallout but I'm curious what people here have to say. I also haven't played Fallout 76 so I imagine a lot of places were likely ruled out or hinted at
