Of all the kitbash ships I think this my favourite.

You have to wonder what the designer was smoking at Utopia Planitia when he came up with this.

I know, let’s take a crappy Maquis Raider and the state of the art Intrepid class stick them together.

What’s worse is his superior officer (also like high af) approved it.

This looks like a Starfleet version of the Klingon Bird of Prey...

It really says “Starfleet emulating Klingons” doesn’t it?

Today is a good day for coffee!

Thanks for this! Another new channel to subscribe to for me after discovering Junkball a few months ago and binging most of his videos in a few days.

For the longest time I wouldn't even believe this ship really had made it to the screen. Thanks to crappy VHS quality I was spared having to look at it.

Of all the kitbashes, this is the one I refuse to accept as canon. It's so monumentally stupid and ugly, I just can't. Shudders

This is exactly why it’s my favourite. It was clearly made because TV at the time was such a low resolution it didn’t have to look good.

The low quality of broadcast television really covered up a multitude of sins :)

Like Worf's make-up lines in the first two seasons of TNG.

Watching them remastered, you can clearly tell the makeup department didn't even bother to blend.

Somehow I've gone my entire life not knowing this monstrosity existed and is actually canon. Now I have to look for it in my current rewatch of DS9 when I get to the Dominion War.

I'm completely torn on it. It looks hideous but it makes sense as to why it exists. Like everyone else, I also thought it was too convenient that Voyager's appearance didn't change as it tried to return home, getting damaged by enemies or having bits simply wearing out and needing replacement without the luxury of starbases around.

In what context is this canon?

I love it! It kind of sells the "we're in the middle of a war and have to slap a bunch of stuff together just to field some more ships for defense" vibe. Even if really it was just a kit bashed computer model.

I’m loving the unabashed ‘Bird of Prey’ vibe.

Let’s face it, the Intrepid-class were raptors in a fight.

There are some scale issues with it being a 'slap a bunch of stuff together' ship in canon. Namely the fact that the Intrepid-class that supplies the saucer is quite a lot bigger than the Maquis raider that supplies the hull and nacelles.

If done to scale, this ship ought to look more like a bobblehead.

Next week on Star Trek...

I know this is off topic but as a model maker I always wanted to start a sub for making space ship models from scratch, based on anything but a store bought model.

I suck with follow through though.

It looks like a pyrogx from Descent
