Jokes on you, I wasn't young then, either. Hahaha, oh wait...

The joke is always on the old.

The opening is one of the best ever, from one of the best performances ever.

[–] Kerandir@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Omg yes, the bus scene!

[–] Kerandir@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Eh it's not for all, mind me asking why you didn't?

[–] Jay@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

My point of view is maybe a bit strange: I was 22 years old when the film came out. Of those 22 years, I was a little Batman fan for at least 17 years. I loved the whole saga, the series, the movies, and Batman was a huge hero to me.

This film degraded my hero in my eyes. He wasn't nearly as cool as the Joker. In every scene you rightly waited for Ledger to come and say a cool line. This film revolved around the terrific performance of Heath Ledger. Unfortunately, as an old Batman fan, it wasn't mine.

[–] lorez@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Villains like Joker are hard to beat in terms of coolness.

[–] Diprount_Tomato@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Hey but at least you got Patrick Bateman as Batman

[–] eagleeyedtiger@lemmy.nz 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I still remember all the online chatter about Heath Ledger getting cast as the Joker. The guy from Brokeback Mountain and A Knight's Tale?

Then he gives us the most iconic live action Joker potrayal which hasn't really been been surpassed in 15 years.

[–] NotVeryHelpful@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Idk, I think Joaquin Phoenix played a better joker. That might be a hot take, but I stand by it.

[–] sh1ggy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor and he might be a great Joker, but I thought that the 2019 film was just okay. Didn't seem like the character to me.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

15 years ago, I was... in my 30s.

So I wasn't all that young then either.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Yeah, thanks for that...

[–] AlexisFR@jlai.lu 10 points 1 year ago

And it's still unmatched by all Batman movies that came after...

[–] mawmon@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Ah you think dark knight is your ally? You merely adopted the dark knight. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the movie until I was already an old man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!

[–] lowleveldata@programming.dev 7 points 1 year ago

If good movies can still be good after any period of time I can be young at any age.

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I'm middle aged and I'm ok with that!

[–] illi@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I most definitely did not need to know this...

[–] Beardsley@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I will have you know that my neck is only slightly sore from just sleeping.

[–] InfiniteFlow@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

That’s fine: I wasn’t young back then either 😛

[–] eek2121@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I hate you.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 3 points 1 year ago

Toy story came out 28 years ago

[–] unreachable@lemmy.my.id 2 points 1 year ago

cruel realization OR blissful one

depends on how you look at it

[–] bmovement@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Feels like 25 years

[–] modestlife@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

That was like 7 Star Wars films ago.

[–] AzuleBlade@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Fuckkkkkkk....

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

2008 was basically yesterday, this doesn't make me feel old.

A few days back I was listening to They Might Be Giants and the first track off of Flood came on which contains the line "Its a brand new record for 1990." I remember when I considered Flood to be "their new stuff." That makes me feel old.

[–] finthechat@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Ah yes. It's all been downhill ever since.

Though there was a brief bright spot when The Dark Knight Rises came out a few years after that and we got Baneposting for a while.

[–] ThisCommentScores@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Why so old?...

[–] dingleberry@discuss.tchncs.de -2 points 1 year ago

Man...this movie didn't age well did it? The fuck was Bale doing with that sore throat voice? And why was the Batsuit so clunky? Isn't Batman supposed to be agile and master in hand to hand combat.

[–] SoNick@kbin.social -2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You mean that shitty cop drama with a batman skin spray-painted on top?

[–] irmoz@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Tell me you haven't watched it lol

[–] rambaroo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I watched and it sounds accurate. Easily the most overrated movie of all time.

[–] irmoz@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If you compare Batman to a cop drama, I'm very curious what cop dramas you watch... it's certainly nothing like CSI lmao

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If you are boiling it down to the absolute basics, I guess you can try to say that. But at that point, damn near any movie where the main character is trying to stop a criminal of some sort is a "cop drama".

Die Hard is a cop drama.

Every James Bond is just a cop drama.

Even 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' is a cop drama.

Like yea, you can make that stretch, but you're using such broad strokes that "cop drama" is meaningless.

[–] lorez@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Now let’s not blow things out of proportion…
