Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.

Summary

Donald Trump reportedly alarmed advisers by requesting that the original Declaration of Independence be moved into the Oval Office.

Aides pointed out the security and preservation challenges, as the document is stored in a high-security case at the National Archives.

Trump later shifted his focus to relocating a historical copy instead.

The request is part of his efforts to reshape the White House and plan celebrations for the Declaration’s 250th anniversary.

Hey Nic Cage, now's the time.

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 62 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I honestly believe he couldn't tell the difference between the real thing and a gift shop fake, I say give him the fake and see what he does with it at least

[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 30 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Hide the sharpies, at least.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

And the white out when he wants the construction next.

[–] otto@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago

This is what they did with his intelligence reports during his first term

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Trump or Nic Cage?

[–] gadfly1999@lemm.ee 95 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Next stop: Mar-a-lago basement where it will be destroyed when the pool floods.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 63 points 5 days ago (3 children)

He 100% wants to sign it larger than anyone else.

[–] darvocet@infosec.pub 15 points 5 days ago

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

John Hancock will rise from his grave to prevent that

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 25 points 5 days ago (2 children)

How the fuck have I not heard of this yet?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 33 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Because there’s a million things constantly happening and no one person can keep up with the tsunami of bullshit.

[–] Retreaux@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

You might even say that the zone has been flooded with shit, even - Bannon's gotta be proud

[–] Texas_Hangover@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Because "ex white house aides" can claim all kinds of ridiculous shit.

I didn't say I believed it. But I do think it's funny as shit!

[–] ThanksObama@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 days ago

He's gotta get his fiber from somewhere, it sure as hell isn't coming from all the McDonald's he eats....

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 43 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Nice document you’ve got there. Real shame if something happened to it. 🇬🇧

Seriously, though, is it too late to rescind the declaration? If we're gonna have a king no matter what, I'd rather have King Charles.

[–] sbv@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago

Saxe-Coburg and Gotha playing the long game

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 27 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He’s just going to get ketchup and Big Mac grease all over the priceless historical document…what’s the big deal?!

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

He likes to steal shit, they're worried he'll take it and keep it or trade it to Russia or whatever idiotic whim he's on that day.

[–] wuphysics87@lemmy.ml 23 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Let him do it. We can write a new one

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Can we get a parliamentary system or fix congress with the new constitution please?

[–] superkret@feddit.org 33 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Mark my words, he's gonna annotate and sign it in sharpie.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 25 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (4 children)

Ugh.

He doesn't get that it's there not because it's valuable, it's there because it's an important cultural artifact that would disintegrate in a regular environment.

We get one of the real thing. Any time we get one of something, we like to protect it. Or at least we, humans, do.

Just put the comics section out of the Sunday paper in a frame for him. He won't know the difference.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Don't worry, he'll just use his sharpie to fix a few things.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh no, he found out countries play by Capture-the-Flag rules with our founding documents. He's going to hand it over like it's the deed to America and we'll all be cooked--- cooked, I say!

The Atlantic highlighted that Trump has shown interest in planning the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence,

All while denying people their independence.

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

He doesn't think the Constitution exists, so I guess this makes sense?

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ya think he's gonna try reading it?

🤡🤡🤡

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

The Declaration would be one thing, but the real win would be getting him to read the Constitution.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 days ago

This is Saul Goodman level decorating

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 6 points 5 days ago

I'm a Patriotic Republican who defends the Constitution but ONLY after Children get Murdered and I think this is a GREAT idea that CANT go Wrong!

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He's probably wanting to read the list of grievances against King George and trying to figure out which ones he hasn't done yet.

Well, if he could read, that is.

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

There is no chance in hell that he knows who King George is/was.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 5 days ago

It's gonna come back with changes made in crayon.

[–] gimmelemmy@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Nicholas Cage is ALSO controlling drumpf now? Dude is like one of those Muppets with one person doing the voice, another the mouth, and two other people are working the hands. Makes for an impressive illusion

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 3 points 5 days ago

He probably read some conspiracy theory about it and wants to have some goon inspect it. Just like the whole Fort Knox thing.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

He wants to cut it into strips and use it as toilet paper.
