Summary

A new KFF poll finds that most Americans, including majorities of Republicans, Trump voters, and rural residents, oppose Medicaid spending cuts.

Over half of respondents have personal or family experience with Medicaid, and 73% call it “very important” in their communities.

While 62% initially support work requirements, support drops to 32% when informed most enrollees already work. Opposition to reducing expansion funds rises from 59% to 75% upon hearing states cannot fill shortfalls and 20 million might lose coverage.

Misinformation persists about Medicaid eligibility and services, highlighting public confusion on the program's role.

Why do they vote for the exact thing they don't want? Is it just ''well... I'm a racist, so don't get me wrong, but we need to protect our social safety net, for whites only of course''

[–] teft@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago

“He's not hurting the people he needs to be hurting” is a quote from a trump supporter so that should inform you as to their thought processes.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 6 points 6 days ago

Exactly my feelings. What they want doesn’t matter unless their votes reflect it.

[–] Tower@lemm.ee 3 points 6 days ago

Trump lies, repeatedly. The media they watch repeats those lies. They think they're voting for what he's saying. That, or just the racism.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 days ago

He'll do it and they'll still support him.

If those stupid fucks don't want Medicaid to stop, why in hell did they vote for this asshole?

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 6 points 5 days ago

Why ?

These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:

  1. Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

  2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses

  1. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

  2. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

This is the power of the US oligarch media/propaganda echo chamber. The information that this is what they would do was out there. But many get their news from only their local broadcast stations. And when they're owned by Sinclair, they don't get that information.

Sinclair is only telling them that musk is saving them billions and money and that Trump is doing a wonderful job. Sinclair spent the last 4 years down playing the insurrection and consistently attacking anyone who wasn't trump.

It's already super strict to be eligible for medicaid

[–] tal@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Most of said people aren't looking at what's going on with Medicaid, because the news is about annexing Canada and such.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They'll notice once they can't access their insurance anymore

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

And then it'll be "Thanks Obama!" or the ever popular "Let's go Brandon!"

Good! Think of the money saved by not financing idiots who voted against their own interests. The nice thing about Trump is that he is determined to make fewer red state voters each time he is president. Whether it is downplaying the most dangerous plague of our times or taking the medical care from the people who didn't die - he's going to make sure there are fewer votes.

The number of voters is irrelevant. Trump will win all "elections" going forward with 103% of the vote.

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Maybe those Republicans should contact their representatives. It's not like they'll listen though.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

No one who voted for these assholes read Project 2025. They bought all the lies, because Trump said he hates the people they hate, and everything said against him was "fake news".

The morons doomed us all to dealing with the fucking billionaires in direct control of our government.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

79 Million Americans rely on Medicaid and Chip.

Trump immediately froze funding to it and the House Republicans passed a budget that guts it.
