Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

DS9 s1e10 "Move Along Home"

Edit: Coincidentally put together last night before NegativeNull's Kiss post. Funny how that works.

"You're always trapping people in games! Stop trapping people in games!"

I have seen all of DS9 but I have no recollection of this. For those who also don't remember:

Joel Brooks made serious bank in the 90s playing jaunty assholes.

I don't know why people hate this episode so much.

It's a little cheesy, but who cares? So are dozens of episodes people love

Personally, I find the main alien characters highly annoying and the little girl singing the song over and over again even more so. And that's before we get into the "none of this actually mattered because there were no actual consequences" ending.

Edit: Not to mention, the exact same "this was all a game and there were no consequences" ending was done so much better in Shore Leave where Kirk still grew as a person despite the fact that he was never in any real danger.

And that's before we get into the "none of this actually mattered because there were no actual consequences" ending.

To me, that doesn't matter as much because the characters weren't aware of that. Sure if it happened every other episode I'd be annoyed - it's like the "it was all a dream" trope ending, in a way. But I don't have issue with it if used sparingly.

I think it was also useful in terms of showing, early on, that Quark does care about people over profit, and signals to the viewer that he is very much a redeemable character, and will have character growth in the future.

Overall I view it as a silly but kinda enjoyable episode. I certainly understand why people wouldn't like it, but I've never really understood why some hate it.

I don't hate it, but it's an episode I'd be fine to skip if I did a repeat viewing of DS9.

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I've never met anyone who hates this episode. it's one of my favorites

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I've seen a lot of hate for it, although entirely online

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Some people aren't into cheesy stuff

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Yeah but there's a lot of cheesy Trek

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I've done like 3 full watch through of TNG and somehow I have always skipped this episode. I've never seen it start to finish.

[–] emeralddawn45@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure if youre joking but its a Deep Space Nine episode.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 hours ago

Well that explains it!

I've only done one DS9 watch through and I must have missed this or not been paying attention.

[–] SevenStack@startrek.website 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

me but with the Enterprise theme

It's been a long road
getting from there to here

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Figured Allamaraine was the safer choice since it's universally panned as dumb.

I am among those few for whom the ENT theme ~~is enjoyable~~ grew on them as a result of Stockholm Syndrome.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’m from an outside culture and both me and my so loved the theme from the start. Until they messed up with it and made it upbeat.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah, definitely a skip moment. Same goes for later seasons of DS9.

[–] SatyrSack@feddit.org 4 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Wait, the song is what people hated? I get that the episode had bad acting and such, but the song didn't feel out of place or anything to me.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

The song was okay... the first 150 times I heard it.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

The song is appropriate for the absurd situation. The gestures vaguely everywhere is what's disliked.
