Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Granted I'm not someone who uses AI assistants too much, but I've never seen anyone use any other voices than the default one (Red). There are 10 voices for Google Assistant, apparently. Do you or someone you know use them?

Female Aussie voice for me

[–] steb@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Yes! For some reason, she's way less annoying than the Brit or American options.

I switched my Android assistant to a man's voice. A woman serving as my digital assistant has always felt mildly sexist to me.

[–] NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Does the silent voice count? ;-)

(I don't ever use these pieces of...)

Not sure about Google Assistant, as I don't use it, but for driving navigation I love the British female voice. She sounds ditzy when saying "turn left", and like some kind of SM mistress when she says "turn right". I love it. Despite this, I would swap her for a thick Scottish male accent in a heartbeat.

I swoon when Natalie tells me there's an average speed zone ahead

[–] FunnyUsername@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Definitely, I hate the default voice. I've always wanted an old fashioned style live-in butler like they had in the olden days for fancy people named William Bates or something, so I picked the male voice that made me think of that most

That’s what I did with Siri too. At the time (years ago) the voice synthesizer sounded less clunky than the main voice too.

Left google home to default though.

I use the male UK voice. I love the accent.

[–] miles@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

female UK for me iirc

I was going to say, yes. But then I went and looked and it's set to red. I know I changed it a couple years ago, it.miat have reset.

[–] TwystedKynd@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'm American, but switched it to the male UK voice. Far less irritating and a lot less "by the way..." crap.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I changed my Alexa to British simply because we enjoy the accent.

[–] crazystuff@discuss.online 1 points 1 year ago

My Siri is Australian, same reason

[–] neoman4426@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Apparently 12 voices for Google last time I counted. I'll sometimes roll a d12 (either grab a physical one or just ask the assistant to do it) and change it if I'm feeling bored

[–] Kwaker76@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What utopia is this that you get a choice of 12?!! I just checked and I get two options - red or orange.

[–] neoman4426@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Might be a US thing? Coincidentally, rolled after leaving the first comment and got a 4, which happens to be orange

[–] otherbarry@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My Pixel 7 has 12 voices, maybe it's a Pixel / Google device feature?

I've never noticed how many voices the 3rd party devices have (Samsung, etc.).

[–] Kwaker76@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'm on a Pixel 6

[–] Dwigt_Rortugal@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wish there was a Jesse Ventura voice, I would use that. Would probably ramble on about the Navy SEALS while trying to listen to music though.

Even though I’m American, I hate the default Siri voice. I have it set to South African Voice 2, which sounds much nicer IMO.

[–] BrerChicken@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I use a brother on my nest in the kitchen, whom I have a serious, long-term relationship with. I hardly use my assistant on my phone though.

[–] steb@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I switched my Alexa to Australian female voice as I found it less annoying than the default UK female one.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

I use the non standard "silent" voice.

Is Android assistant different to Google assistant? As I want a virtual assistant on my device, but don't use Google fro anything.

[–] xeger@lib.lgbt 2 points 1 year ago

It’s the same thing; I was just being sloppy with terminology.
