He is literally the king of misinformation and it's largely why Tesla did so well early on. He would get on stage and lie about their progress and vision, and then do it again next quarter/year.

I wish he'd just die already.

Someone is keeping track of the lies. There are a lot of them: https://elonmusk.today/

First lie on the list: 4,697 days since Elon Musk said Tesla will never need to raise capital again. Then a list of the many times since he said it that they needed to raise capital.

Very neat. Sadly doesnt keep track of all the political misinformation, which is understandable given how much he lies. Here was a report leading up to the election finding 7% of his 100 tweets a day were misinformation. I'm sure this will only continue as he gets more politically involved within US, Germany, and elsewhere.

Holy crap I didn't know this existed, thanks!

"misinformation" is too big a word for ~ 74m americans. call 'em what they are, "LIES". the single syllable word is more likely to be understood by those who most need to.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 62 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Weird to have a "But" in that title. An "And" or no connecting word at all would make more sense. "But" suggests it was okay to influencer lawmakers if only he was truthful instead of spreading misinformation.

If Musk had legitimate criticism of the bill grounded in facts, then I believe it would have been perfectly reasonable to make an attempt to try to influence lawmakers. The issue here was the use of misinformation, influencing lawmakers to make decisions contrary to what a factual argument would lead them to have made.

Lawmakers should be able to think for themselves, decide for themselves without listening to what Elon has to say. If not, then that's a whole different issue, one that we shouldn't blame Elon for.

Goebbels 2.0 spreads lies? You don't say...

Nothing like an immigrant trying to take Congress's job.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Elon? Misinformation? No waaaaay

[–] Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.world 25 points 5 days ago

It's been fairly well documented that elmo is a fake news superspreader on the xhitter.

You guys gonna do something about this billionaire foreigner influencing your government or is it just as exciting to cuck for him while you starve as for less-rich people?

[–] ninjabard@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

What can we do? The people with the majority of the money and power believe he's the second coming of tech Jesus. My own father, who cannot conceive of affording a cybertruck, took it personally when I mentioned the factual issues those rusting eyesores have. What am I to do against such reckless and willful ignorance?

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

What can we do?

Vocally call him the president, and Trump the VP or first lady.

Both Trump and Musk are narcissists with massive egos, but only Trump was actually elected into a government position. If Trump's ego gets bruised enough by hearing people think he's Elon's puppet, he might actually do something about it and kick him to the curb.

I bet more ineffectual peaceful protest will impress the rich and powerful.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

I mean, the guy bought Twitter just so they wouldn't fact check him anymore and he could post whatever garbage he wanted....

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 18 points 5 days ago (2 children)

X is a channel for disinformation and hate speech. The US should take down the platform (and tank Musk's value). Come on Biden - you could sneak it in in your last weeks!

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Sorry, as of January 20th, it's going to be the new Ministry of Communications.

As much as I applaud Biden for forgiving as much student loan as he can, he's also very busy handing out pardons to Democrat party donor loyalists.

After all these years of America placing puppet governments all over Latin America, Elon decided to get one for America

[–] microphone900@lemmy.ml 10 points 5 days ago

Even though I live in the US, it is kinda nice to see this country finally get its comeuppance for a century of ruining the homes of my brethren. 'Oh, your democratically elected government or leader is to the left of Ronald [the Fucker] Reagan? You get a coup. You get an assassination. All of you get a fascist murderous right wing military dictatorship that will kill, torture, SA, and steal the children of tens of thousands of people, set back the economy and lower the standard of living for generations. We will feel just a fraction of the pain caused by our government and the people who supported, and still support, its policies.

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Who would expect that from that fat fuck?

[–] MaxTheMummer@lemm.ee 5 points 4 days ago

It's a problem, but so is the fact that so many people believe him.
